If you don't know who Jack Thompson is, click here.

Well, a small group of people who call themselves Thompsonsoft finally made his game. Throughout the game you'll be shooting or beating up enemies who's heads will explode before they die. Or they'll start vomiting blood and then their heads will explode. It is also has a few bonus games and one of them starts with the words: "Let's get ready to pee on those brains!"

The best thing is, it's completely made by the idea of the crazy lawyer.

The game's site is here:

and the backup site, ATM can be located here:

BOYD1981

he had some other challenge a while ago where he said he'd give $10,000 to anyone that made a game where you have to travel to E3 and start killing everyone.
a few games were made and he didn't pay any money at all.
penny arcade donated $10k to some charity though.

That was mentioned in that very article posted, actually. (E3)

I just played the game, and it's quite funny! Being 2D though means the violence isn't as effective as a 3D game would be.

Well animated though! Love the sprites! and the bit where you shop got me all nostalgic, how you point your cursor over things and the merchant says stuff, like in Skate or die.

I, uh, didn't make it past the second main level though.. :(

"By Jack Thompson" is a bit misleading, but... well... feh.

Oh, and Matt, the (lead) sprite artist is Derek Yu, he's a pretty cool guy... I visit his site almost every day.

edmundito

I remember derek yu from my Klik & Play days; he was always a remarkable pixel artist. Notice that the game was made with Multimedia Fusion, which is like Klik & Play's improved grandson, and it's probably the best-made game I've played that was made with it.

So, will this one count in Jacks mind? He seems to be able to make up reasons no tot pay out.

LGM

If I recall, JT retracted his "bet" because he's a ninny who says many a thing that he can and will never back up.

It's people like Jack who ruin the name of Christianity.
You. Me. Denny's.

Squinky

Last interview I read, he explained that he never retracted it, just that no one had fullfilled the requirements (kinda lame, since it seemed to me when he first said his offer was satire and penny arcade paid for him, that was a retraction).

According to him, the game muct be made by a big gaming company, no garage programmers, and then, the president of Take Two(?) must select the charity. Which I find funny coming from a lawyer, since he never specified this in his big proclaimation.....

Actually (as posted to the gamepolitics.com website here) here's exactly what JT said in response:

Quote from: Jack ThompsonFascinating, in a number of regards:

1. The creation of this "game" does not meet the terms and conditions of the Modest Proposal. Not even close; thus, no cigar.

2. Still waiting to hear from Paul Eibeler as to HIS favorite charity for the donation. Penny Arcade's nit wits can't read, obviously.

3. Fascinating, further, that Dennis McCauley, who is the freelance "columnist" who runs this site can't use his phone to call me at 305-666-4366 to interview me about my take on this. Any real journalist, despite his animus, would have done just that. So much for Mr. McCauley's "journalistic ethics," which is, of course, an oxymoron in the video game enthusiast press, such as this site.

4. Finally, the attorneys for these idiots will be contacted.

More importantly, if Dennis McCauley were really a news person, he would report the murderous rampage by Jacob Robida that stretched from New Bedford, Mass., to Arkansas over the last three days. Cop-killing games have been identified by the Mayor of New Bedford.

Now, kiddies, brace yourselves for this one. Jack Thompson

He is of course referring to the Jacob Robida hate crime rampage.  The guy was trying to kill gays which ended in a firefight with the police as far as I understand, having nothing to do with video games, but whatever.

And do you really think that could be JT's phone number?  Would he actually be so stupid as to post it in a comment to a blog?  And does his number actually have '666' in it?  Apparently, the answer to all those questions is... yes.  That's just too cute.

Squinky

I love how he questions journalistic integrity, When he himself is in a position where he should be acting with integrity, but no, he's basically a big dumb bully with a degree in law....

Just going along with their joke.  :)

Have you played Eternal Daughter? That's also by Yu, it's a real classic.

Anyone else found the secret 'Hot Coffee' scene yet? It's pretty well hidden...

"This must be a good time to live in, since Eric bothers to stay here at all"-CJ also: ACHTUNG FRANZ!

sergiocornaga

That's a secret... lets just say it's a code that under normal circumstances would actually help you in the game. Oh my, a subtle hint!
