Do you think it would be possible to use a combination of

Maya (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?id=7635018&siteID=123112)

Bryce 6 (http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/software/bryce)

and Quidam (http://www.n-sided.com/3D/quidam.php?rub=1)

to create an interestingly inventive game?

How much do you get paid if we visit those links?

Ha! You get paid nothing...

And yes, it could look a little like Myst (but that's only the pictures Bryce gave you.)

If you made a character in Quidam then animated it through Maya, creating frames that you could plug into AGS...The world would be your Oyster?

It could be good, I certainly have no doubt in Maya and Bryces capabilities...but I'm not sure there's many people here willing to fork out the £1200 to try it :P

Somehow I suspect you need more than awesome and/or expensive graphics software to make a good game.

3D is not only the norm nowadays, but overrated.

Personally, I'd rather play a nicely hand-drawn 2D adventure game than a computerized 3D adventure any day.

I think it would be cool to play a 2D adventure game with an option to wear 3D glasses.

Don't forget, Bryce 5.5 is free. I recently downloaded it to make a few basic models. You could totally make an awesome game with Bryce.

If you were going to go 3D, I would expect open-source programs to be used, or at least freeware, as AGS is free. Something like Blender, which I hear is pretty nifty.

I dunno, I'm not such a big fan of 3D anymore.

The thing with Bryce is that it's not a modelling program, just a placement and rendering program. You won't always find stock models that fit your game creation needs.

But for people, you can't beat DAZ Studio, especially now that some of the models are free and there are free clothing packs everywhere.

The question is not 'wouldn't that look nice', it is really, 'it would be nice if someone could pull it off.'

Most people around here would not be able to pull off 3d that looks up to a commercial standard. You would get really crap 3d, which would most likely make many people puke.

Eric could do it, his 3d is nice. I could probably do it, if there were a 3d ags character plugin which was somewhat decent and used a decent model format. Unfortunatly, the only ags 3d character plugin accepts only milkshape and a really obscure useless format no one will use.

Maybe in the future, we will get a decent model format that may inspire me to utilise my 3d skilllz, but at the moment, none is available.

As for those programs you mentioned, only one to me seems useful, and that is maya. Not that I like it that much, as 3ds max has a much nicer user interface. Maya confuses me to no end!!!

i like 3D games. im into the next gen and every thing but i also like 2D adventure games. i like pretty much every thing, but most people (including me) couldn't pull off 3D. it would look like a cat after 3 minutes in the microwave (not that ive ever stuck a cat in the microwave just guessing)but if your really really good at that stuff than you MIGHT be able to pull it off. even then you will have to have a nice amount of people to help you.
