Well heres the problem...
I just got my pc back from the guy who got rid of everything on it and put xp back on and stuff, but he thought my name was matthew. Anyway, theres a folder C:\Documents and Settings\Matthew, but I want it as Dan, since matthew aint my name, and probably never will be. When i go to rename the folder, it says "windows cant rename this folder blah blah blah."
I just wanted to know, is there any way to change it?Ã, ???
Thanks, Jimbo
User Accounts in control panel should do it
Change it in Control Panel / User Accounts.
I did that but the folder didn't get renamed
but my account is now Dan
Create a new account as a copy with a new name and delete the other then. This may be one of those many things Microsoft never considered (or didn't think to be important).
When I create a new account, it doesn't make a new folder. is there no way of renaiming the folder through some obscure method??
This (http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/screeniedesktop.GIF) is a screenie of what i had.
It should make a new folder.. Mine did when I had a seperate profile for my roomate. The only reason I can think of that it wouldn't is if you share your settings with them. I'm gonna try it and I'll post what happens.
You must log on to the new account you've created before it will make a folder for it.
Once the folder is there, simply overwrite all of it's files with yours, and delete the account with the name you don't want.
The "matthew" folder doesn't contain any files except shortcuts. So does that mean i can just delete the folder and the accound and that be an end of it?
Yes, only delete the account though, the folder will be gone automatically afterwords.
OK. Thanks alot!!!! :D
