Hello! I am not very friend of publishing hardware/software problems here in gen gen, but there is something that it' s turning me mad. I have an optical mouse, it worked great for years, and still does, but... Sometimes, every 2 or 3 minutes, the cursor moves violently to a corner of the screen, in just an instant, and that movement has nothing to do with something I do with my hand. No parkinson here. Sometimes the cursor dissapears in the upper left side of the screen, sometimes down right... I don' t know how to do. It wouldn' t really be a big problem if that happens only when I aiming with my AA in silent hunter 4 or something, it's just a game, you can aim again propperly the following second after the "bug", but it has spoiled some work in good sprites. it' s really annoying.

I've cleaned my mouse and the "carpet" where it is. Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks.

I think I have the same problem with my old mouse. It would just move all over the screen whilst opening and closing windows. It sounds like your mouse may be starting to age and I would just buy a new mouse if I were you.

Are you using the mouse on a laptop? I had a similar problem a few years ago and discovered it was actually the touchpad giving me problems. If you're using a laptop, you could try disabling the touchpad and see if that does the trick. Otherwise, I agree with Jon. Just go buy a new mouse.

That was one of my initials thoughts... The "optical cell" or whatever is called, is getting old and will never be the same, time to change...

But it worked so well, without any dark interest and with no complains... :-\ I' d like to give it a last oportunity.

If no, I will start a pay pal account so you guys can start sending me money for my new mouse.

(When you were typing a new reply has been posted)  ;)

No, no laptop. I' ve recently moved to Vista, but it worked fine for a month, so, I guess that' s not the problem...

Same problem here. On pretty rare occasions my mouse just jumps into a corner. Happens in games and in the OS equally. My mouse is kinda old as well, I think it's a common problem with older mice...

Nacho: why do you need money for a new mouse? Do you use really special ones? Because new optical mouses can easilby be bought from 15-25â,¬ IIRC. Or are you THAT poor? :p

Nacho

I am that poor. And as I am the creator of one of the most expected AGS games ever, FoY, I think it should be great logical that any member could send 20 or 30 â,¬ to me.

FoY has been in the works for eight years! How much longer must we endure your crying "wolf"? (read: give us the fucking game!)  :P

Nacho

Do you have a terminal disease? No? Then, I guess that you might play FoY... with your grandsons...

I've got a wireless optic mouse that sometimes gives me problems. First thing I check is that the receiver is in the USB port all of the way and that nothing is on the touch pad of my laptop. Then I "restart" my mouse by turning it off and on, then switch to new batteries if I'm still having problems. Some optic mouses can easily be fixed by cleaning the LED and photon receiver thing with some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip.

Also, completely off topic, I love my infrared mouse. No more bright red lights or anything. They might be more common than I think, but I don't miss that harsh LED on my eyes. But a downside is that you can't play with it on the wall. But if you do decided to pick up a new mouse, keep an eye out for one.
