My friend recently invited me to gmail, for those who don't know, Gmail is a e-mail servise by google. They say they've got a gig of space (literaly) so you'll never have to delete your e-mails.

Is it just me or dose this sound sorta....scammy :-\, what i find sorta wierd is that a computer bot comes and reads your e-mails and personalises the adds on you account.

It all just sounds like a stunt to find out what people like. And if it is then....tch' who cares? they got a gig of space, subfolders , and a gig of space, did i mentoin theres a gig of space. what i'm trying to say here is HAHAHA I GOT GMAIL AND YOU DONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

What about Hotmail's (or any) spam filter? That does pretty much exactly the same thing, checks for keywords in email content and reacts accordingly. I don't see why people are that wary of it.

If anyone still doesn't have a gmail address and wants one (which can't be that many by now, it's increasingly easy) http://isnoop.net/gmailomatic.php should get you one pretty fast.

Moox

I have 6 gmail accounts, everyone on this forum practicly has it, there was a thread a month ago where they gave like 50 away

Mr Jake

its been in my sig for months, Im sorry but gmail is probably the best thing since sliced cheese

Toefur

I must be the only person that not only doesn't have one, but also... doesn't want and/or need one.  :P

Gilbert

No, you're not alone, I don't have a Gmail account, and I don't want it either (at least for now).

Timosity

I don't have one either, or really care about gmail, is there any real benefit of having one? a gig of space who cares, I've got a lot more on my hard drives, and I've got emails from a long time on them.

mozilla thunderbird's junk feature is pretty cool too

Mr Jake

eeep, bad thing about gmail, cant send or get zip files :(

Um, yes you can.
I have sent and recieved ZIP files.
There is a 10MB cap for attatchments, though.

Edit: In fact, the only ZIP file I ever recieved on GMail was from you, Hotspot...
The others were .RAR.

BlackMan890

funny thing, GMX also has a gig and I've not yet reached the size limit of sendable mails (certainly above 7megs), you can send every file format you like...
It's free also, I can create my own folders, messages aren't deleted automatically, so why the hell is everyone so fucking crazy about GMail?!?!
This post was generated automatically and therefore bears no signature.

I don't have gmail because I dont need a gig of space. Oh cmon - as if you're EVER going to fill up a gig of space. Ive got 60 MB and its more than enough, since Ive filled up 16% of it for 2,5 years(files go to a separate folder), and have never deleted an email, 'cept for spam, that is.

Esseb

I have it because it's not hotmail.

Mr Jake

Al: I tried to send a zip today and it said due to gmail security reasons the file wasun-sendable, I also sent the same zip to my Gmail account from my hotmail account - it is yet to arrive.

Esseb

Rename it to whatever.zip.txt then, and tell the person who receives it to rename it back.

Al_Ninio

Or just RAR it, because it is way better.

Mr Jake

yes, I would RAR it despite the fact I was at college :P

I shall have to do what Esseb said..

Incase anyone is wondering: you can send zips as long as they dont have exe files in.
