Icey/Studio3 recently mentioned his idea of "AGS E3", and whilst it may appear foolish to try and copy this aspect of the AAA game design scene, I think it would be cute and positive if we *did* have an event where we could showcase our stuff - unfinished projects, demos, screenshots, trailers... or even knuckle down and tie up those last few loose ends we've been putting off doing for months and actually finishing that game we've all had sitting around forever waiting to be done.
We used to have these under the guise of a "Release Something", and while I never participated, they were great fun, it's amazing to see all the different members of the community showcase little parts of their projects. I think having a date, an event in which you know people will be interested in this sort of thing and all your buddies will be doing it, really motivates one to tidy something up for people to look at it. And, if nothing else, it gives you somewhere to finally show off those couple of screenshots that you know aren't going to be in a game anymore, but you spent hours working on and might as well do *something* with, even if it does just mean posting them for people to go "oooh, I wish that was a game!" over.
As far as I can tell, the last Release Something was February 2009 (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=36831.0). We had something a little in the vein of this last year in May (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=40771.0) when ProgZmax set the mags topic to "Release Your Game" and the comp was clearly a great success - 6 entries in a MAGS comp is a great showing by anybody's standard, so the interest is clearly there.
That was over a year ago - perhaps it's time for another release something?
(sorry if this is in the wrong board)
Update:
With no objections having arisen, I'm going to go and set the deadline for this activity as the 10th of July. You have one month to polish up your games/tech demos/demos/prototypes/vertical slices for release! Keep the sweet stuff rolling in guys, it's awesome to see!
I approve of this, and am using my authority to make this the "Release Something" thread:
Ben304 releases veryweirdguy
Run free, my pretty!
I appreciate your enthusiasm, but I think historically we're supposed to set a date for the event to occur and say "Have your things polished up for this time!".
Still, thank you for releasing something. I hope it is a weight off your soul :D
I very much like the idea of a new release something. I too have missed this comp.
I hope it will motivate me to release a demo of my game.
BENJAMIN. Did you not SEE the part about my AUTHORITY.
Because I respect veryweirdguy's authority, I defy Ben's attempt at making this organized and am releasing this:
ANARCHY!!!
It was made over a million years ago in March 2009 and features characters created by Kralex and Bluke4x4. And the project is STILL ALIVE (and still a lot of hard graft away from completion, sorry)!
Here's another thing from it (http://fav.me/d3fbrgl)
Can we just put trailers like they do in E3? Or as Nintendo has done, use another system to show what your system will be able to do. ;D
Well I don't have one, everything is worked out but it's all still in my notebook and unfinished Sketchup's backgrounds. All that's done is half finished image that'll be part of the intro screen for a sort of steampunky/fantasy thief story about a crime gone wrong and an escape from a city. It's going to be first part of trilogy, although I kind of only know what would happen at the begining of the second part...critics say it's a brilliant display of stoytelling and inventive gameplay.
BE READY FOR WINTER OF ...let's say 2012. (if the world ends in the meantime, then there probably won't be more than a demo out)
But it's going to be a new gameplay experience, fun fully interactive with a deep storyline (it gets deeper every day and especially with every episode of Game of thrones I watch). ;D
The hell with it, I ain't a mod, and unlike Cooper I have NO authority :'(
How can I be cross when your anarchies are so delicious and sweet, you cheeky scamps!
Still, it would be nice to set some dates (if we're going to get excited and ignore a start date, then at least a finish date).
Ben304 now bows to veryweirdguy's *AUTHORITY*
(I lied about the authority thing.)
But yeah, a finish date would be good. Gives people time to prepare, but eliminates the whole "planning" thing that creative types have so much bother with.
Yeah, I think a deadline is important to keep motivation up. Some people are bound to miss it, but that will always happen sadly.
I also think Release Something type affairs are much lovelier if done once a year or so, making them exciting, rather than a thread where people post tons of crap really quickly and then it dies out after a while.
Quote(I lied about the authority thing.)
You filthy pagan! :o
Isn't the AGS E3 called Mittens?? You attend, you show your stuff around - you don't... well then you do not do it ;)
In terms of authority...
Wanted to do a game with the NES palette:
Stopped it because it took too much precious time from ShattenReyze.
@Eggie: Please finish either a game or a cartoon, your style is awesome!
Thanks ben for getting the topic going. I sorta got the idea a little bit to late but it's still good to see people taking an intrest.
So is there a date we're all working towards or what? I can't strive towards a nebulous future point. That's abstract and far too much like real life. ???
In contributing to further deteriorate I'll also release "something"
As my last concept art of Dacey II basically became Concurrence, I was trying to get back to the old style and consequently improving it.
I did some research and really fell in love with German expressionist movies from the 20s. This screen is somewhere between Metropolis and Lotte Reinigers shillouette movies. As it doesn't really fit Daceys story I probably wont develop this any further. I still found it a fasciniating style. I really like to see that with a lot of animation inside.
Having a certain date to finish something and kind of posting the progress is a great idea I think. Could be a good chance to revisist the dreaded code of Concurrence so I can finally go on with the develeopment.
I might have something for this....
teaser:
The whole point of AGS E3 was for members to show a preview of any game(s) they are making in anyway like a video or a demo, etc..
However Ben is in charge so it's up to him.
Man, we have some beautiful stuff coming out! I think we should definitely agree on a deadline, though, before we all get carried away.
As for someone being in charge, the concept of such a thing is a little flawed. The whole thing is up for discussion by anyone.
Also, Release Something isn't just about releasing games, it is about releasing screenshots, tech demos, animations, prototypes, trailers and of course full games, and as far as I know always has been! You're quite welcome to post a preview, you're also very encouraged to think "Hey, I might see if I can get that old game and maybe polish it up into something that I can release".
For a deadline, a month seems like a reasonable amount of time for me. Any comments on this period of time, or preferred deadline dates?
Mode7, that would make a great background style for a jump'n'run game!
A month sounds good. Also can we use the logo I made?
To be honest, I am against the notion of calling it the "AGS E3". This has been something of a tradition in AGS, let's own it and keep it as our own. I understand where you are coming from, but let's keep this our own.
Muahahaah! Yeah. Here's some stuff.
Kelma did this for a project we're working on:
Pretty friggin sweet background, if you ask me.
I did this, I'm working on converting short stories I write (some were intended to be games, originally) to video form:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTBLDoCTcIM
I'd say I've officially "owned" all this Wii U hype with hype of my own. Don't hate, Nintendo.
I will post one of the first things I drew with my tablet. It went downhill after this!
The form of the tree is somewhat odd but I think it has character. There is kind of a face in there I think.
@Ben: Sounds good.

Yeah sure would, still I'd like to avoid mimic limbo too much. What I had in mind is more like a short animated movie. Something really artsy. Short but extremely dense in atmosphere. I'd experimented with rich animated BGs for Concurrence but had to scrap the idea due to different reasons. I like the open form Ben proposed. If it turns out only a tech demo its fine.
Well I've experimented with a lot of stuff lately and this is only one possibillity. I probably should focus on finishing Concurrence first...
QuoteI like the open form Ben proposed. If it turns out only a tech demo its fine.
Yeah! Whilst full games would be awesome, tech demos and demos in general would also be pretty amazing. I love playing other people's tech demos, so I think we should keep it available for pretty much everything to count as a "release" here.
Awesome stuff so far! When everyone's already releasing stuff, I might as well post stuff from a game I used to work on a while ago. I haven't actually given up on it, so here goes.
Will post more when I get home.
So... are we releasing screenshots and stuff? I didn't read all above 'cos it's too bloody late and I'm too tired but it sounds like fun:) Here's one from me (rejected piece of artwork that didn't make the final cut):
I know. It's a car.
Screenshots come under the label "Something".
As far as I'm concerned, it definitely fits the guidelines :=

I've got some stuff I'll try and put up tomorrow.
GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD!*
(*I just learned how to do this red banner thingy today!)
A screen shot from Oceanspirit Dennis: Archipelago Adventures!
This shot shows Dennis and his landing party exploring one of the many tiny islets that make up the Haunted Reefs. Dennis has just stumbled across a gaggle of undead pirates (worse still, this band is led by a spell caster!).
Dennis is armed with his former master Sensei XL's mighty EmoBlade. His mateys are armed with double pistols (two shots per combat phase!). One of the mateys is almost out of hit points (note the red dots). Another isn't in terribly great shape either. It certainly looks as though Dennis has quite a fight on his hands!
The hex he has just entered has a locked treasure chest, a medium healing potion, and an family-sized bottle of Brut cologne (Dennis uses Brut as mana in this game) just waiting to be looted.
For some reason, the hex he just left contains another chest (this one unlocked), a spell scroll, a small bag of coins, and a mysterious pink potion. Why did Dennis leave all that swag untouched? Who knows. Perhaps he was in a terrible hurry. (Or perhaps I was when I was taking screen shots)
Further adding to the excitement are several intriguing mounds. Dennis can dig down into these in an attempt to find more booty. They may contain riches... or nothing. Or they may contain monsters! It's all so very exciting!
I'm sure it will all make some sort of sense when I release this game later this summer. Hope you aren't dreading it too much now! :D
I release a couple hours of live Resonance development! (I'll try to record this time. Not sure how the computer will handle that...) Starting live in a couple minutes: http://ustre.am/wJxq

I'm watching the magic happen! :=
All done! I recorded it! http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/15258290 Two hours and seventeen minutes of AGS and photoshop action! Exciting! :-\ No sound because the family are all asleep.
The video documents me taking a photoshop background I've been working on for two days and chopping it up into image files, then importing the files and programming an entire puzzle out of it in a couple hundred lines of code. Don't worry too much about spoilers if you're going to take a look. It is a very easy puzzle that I'm adding to the very beginning of the game to help serve as a part of a gameplay tutorial.
If you were watching, sorry I wasn't as chatty as usual. Ustream was being very temperamental this time so I couldn't watch the chat.
I had trouble getting the chat to work as well, but watched for a bit! Thanks for recording it, that's awesome :D
It'd be nice to see other interesting "somethings" like this be released - get creative people :D
I remember some of these from back when I was quite new here, although I wasn't active enough to ever have anything. But this thread got me going through some (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43717.20) old (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=30441.0) ones, (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=29030.0) which I have found most enjoyable. It's nice to see that a few of them made it through to completion. :D
My contribution:

Part of a set of assets I made for a 100x50 adventure. Behold the power of the steam-powered teleporter! ;)
I stopped when I decided it wasn't worth making something at a resolution that was not supported. :P
Keep these releases coming people! :D

This is some of the stuff from the OROW that me and Babar were throwing together.
I still think we would have made it, if it weren't for our time-zone differences making it impossible for us to work simultaneously.
Still planning on getting it done, though. ;)
Latest, but not greatest tinkering project:

Enjoyed the other samples in this thread, nice stuff!! 8)
I think this is a brilliant idea - I hope we have this every year.
I started a game for MAGS a couple of months back that i've been planning to finish so this is more incentive to try. I aim to have something playable at least.
In the meantime, here's a couple of screenies from yet another unfinished MAGS I started in July last year. I don't really plan to finish it but I did suffer through a hard drive failure to get it this far so it should at least be seen by someone;-) The theme was about a scientific breakthrough changing the course of humanity. My idea was about a scientist who discovers the cure for a disease that has been decimating the poorest of the population, only to have the company he works for seize all his research and peddle it out to the highest bidder while his daughter lies dying..heh
P.S. I know the character sprite has an ugly outline..what was I thinking?!

Last summer I took a few weeks and made a prototype of a magical combat system (art by Ben304!):
Fighting an evil monkey!
How it worked was that you had spell gems in your staff, which each represented a word (like "throw", "fire", "lift", etc). You combined these gems to create spells, and you'd fight monsters with them. It was a fun little experiment and a nice way to cleanse the creative palate after finishing Puzzle Bots, but in the end I had to admit that the system just wasn't terribly fun. So I scrapped it and started making the next Blackwell game instead!
Wait wait wait... You STOPPED working on a game about fighting an evil monkey?!?
WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!?! :o
I've mentioned to Dave that it might be fun to see the rough playable prototype we built as a download... who knows, we *might* see something? ;D
As for the game, yes, animating evil monkeys and things was pretty darn fun. This one is clearly my favourite, and may or may not be an animation of the evil wizard's head exploding.
I'll let you decide.
In other news, seeing as we've had no opposition, I'm going to go and set the deadline for a month's time. Get working on polishing up those games/tech demos/prototypes/vertical slices, folks, and keep the sweet, sweet stuff rolling in!
As for me, I'm polishing up a little tech demo that I hope to release, going back and fixing all the awfulness in a setting that I love and trying to rework it from a game I now hate into a game I love! I hope to have a little 5 room vertical slice done by the deadline, and am currently polishing up graphics before I dive into the code proper.
Old vs new - it's amazing how much one can learn in less than a year!
Here's a demo thing:
http://www.kweepa.com/step/ags/tech/RayCastModule.zip
I've been inspired to continue working on my game so I can release something on the 10th!
Here is a thing I have been working on:
Before, backgrounds looked like this:
After, they look like this:
(There'll be a black sillhouette foreground in-engine)
I'm really impressed by some of the stuff being submitted here!
Steve: Wow, that really is something! Can you turn as well, or just strafe?
Scavenger: As much as I loved the backgrounds in DWEF Disk 1, the new stuff looks even better! Look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Oh man! I just booted this up, and it is the most awesome thing. How far are you going with this project? I was pumped for the previous raycasting plugin (until it turned into a true 3D one) but this is native and amazing. It could give us so much more variety with our games (a native Normality/Realms of the Haunting style game!) I'm mystified how you got it to run so fast.

Very neat, hedge. I'd be interested to see how would you do the sprite of Ms. Fawlty.
So much awesome work here. Will be keeping an eye on as many of these as possible.

Hah, I love changing my nickname to inane things and need very little prompting to encourage me to do so :D
Icey, nice initiative setting up a showcase page, but it'd be nicer to have some info with each image detailing the creator and, if relevant, some background about it as well. As a showcase page it's reasonably nice, but a little superficial without some actual data to go along with it.
Keep the releases coming, folks! We're only a few days in and there has already been tons of awesome stuff on show! Can't wait to see what else you've all been hiding around your hard drives!
Those are good likenesses of the Fawlty Towers gang. Looks like Cleese is missing the crucial outline the others have and he's blending a bit into the background. Hopefully he's just unfinished.
Some of you may have already seen some of this stuff in a recent thread of mine in the Critics' Lounge, but hey, I'm an attention whore.

And, nice small site, you've put up, Isiah :D
Is there any way to have the GIFs animate though?
And also what Ben said.
Regardless, my vote goes +1.
Nice catch, Dual, it is indeed. Figured most people would figure it out pretty quickly. Even copied the terrible retro stewardess uniforms.
@Ben: Thanks, I will make sure to add info to the page/pics. However it might be somewhat slow due to the amount of pics + new pics that keep coming in. But I will get it done.
@Dualnames: Thanks, sadly I can't. However the pictures is still there so I guess thats good until I figure out away to get them to work.
Also it would be cool to add a video slide show on the page. It would help if people add there trailers to youtube. :]

Here is a screenshot slice from a recent build of a post-apocalyptic game I've been working on (Bolt Action) for way too long. That little part of the background you see is just a small piece of a huge masterpiece that Pinback made for the game's scrolling room. I've still got to make a health system, work on the boss code, and do the multiple endings...I also can't stop tweaking, such as the zombie chase code and idle animations. I'm hoping to finish sometime later in the year, well, provided I don't add a bunker level...

Finally I finished the demo, There is one thing I wanted to add to the demo however I need to plan it out and study some other games to make sure it works right. ;)

Some of your better work, Icey. :)
Wow, so much awesomeness in the thread! Great stuff, people, I hope at least some of it will get released in some way or another! And since I'm already here - a few screenshots from my probably-never-to-be-finished game:

Thanks LimpingFish.
kconan: Add the bunker level! Evey side scrolling beat 'em up needs a level inside a bunker!
icey: Not bad work, dude. Not bad at all.
SpacE3PiratE3CainE3: Why do I love the idea of a slacker dudebro on his way to see the monolith so damn much? :D
Best AGS thread we've had in a while!
Wow, crazy beautiful colour palettes there, Ilyich :D. Beautiful work from SpacePirateCaine as ever, lovely attention to detail.
Pinback's poster is of course jaw droppingly beautiful, so evocative and stylish, and the prospect of playing with his artwork in a strategy/action style game like Bolt Action is pretty damn exciting. Finally got to try LimpingFish's demo and was of course very impressed all around, would love to see this make it to a finished game! Cool easter eggs too!
I enjoyed the intro to your game, Icey, but couldn't seem to get to the room you posted a screenshot of. Can I get there in the demo?
Am mega impressed by all this stuff, keep it rolling in!

I cobbled together some of the unused, uncompleted rough work I did for my MAGS game "Dead Hand". It's basically a look at a few environments, and the full game's intro sequence.
It's NOT a new game.
SIR PLEASE MAKE THIS GAME. ANYTHING IN RETURN.
DUALNAMES LEARNS INDENTATION
I don't believe I've played a more atmospheric game than Dead Hand, and I don't believe that my vote on Dead Hand should go to waste. I'm acting like a fanboy, cause Dead Hand was only 2 minutes long, and those 2 minutes were GREATLY SPENT. I was scared shitless and the ending, man that blew my mind.
So please, MISTER

If you use "Action" on the street-lamp at the beginning, you'll be able to enter the tunnel.
Ahh, thanks! Dunno how I missed that, he even put a hint about lights at the start!
Played through and enjoyed it, it's definitely a step up in quality, and I really like the monster sprites especially. Might pay to have someone proof read your game though, I noticed quite a few errors. Still, cool demo, good work!
Since the theme is called release something, I can participate with a character I made for the swarm, but didn't come up with because it was too big and I thought, that it doesn't fit well to the given guide-line anyway.
But for to release something, it should work ;) and I can show you a „kind of“ soldier:

@Ponch: Thanks.
@Ben304: Thanks Ben, When I finish the game I will have it looked over
Yeah man, I got to the end of the demo :) Nice work! Check my previous post for slightly more in-depth comments!
Also, Tabata, what a creepy guy haha. Nice technique though, and it certainly does fit within the guidelines :D

slacker dudebro
Hah, I got a kick out of that one. Yeah, the game's basically about a group of slacker Space Pirates (Where my name came from, actually. Finally getting around to gamifying it). Wasn't originally going to have the monolith in there - I'm attempting to throw in a handful of less obvious sci-fi references - but I might put it in now, just as a shout out to this thread.
And I need more Barn Runner. Make it happen!
S3 - the demo looks groovy. I'm slacking off at work right now, but I'll save actually downloading and playing for tonight after I get home.
LimpingFish - Looks like I'm going to have to play that as well. As soon as Duals got scared shitless, I realized it needs to be played. And here I was, thinking I was going to get some work done on my own projects tonight.
Tabata - Groovy design; reminds me of DOOM. You should do something with it - it's a shame to let a good sprite go to waste.
Thanks Caine, Btw people press Tab to bring up the Options menu.
Damn it! There is still a Debug on, The play is way to strong. I had his power at 1000 to test the game faster. >:(
Here is the fixed version: http://www.mediafire.com/?9jn92cf5e10cuu4
Artwork from another little game I've been working on should also qualify as 'something':
They're WIP, but I was actually going for a simpler graphics style this time.
Wow, there's a lot of awesome stuff here!
I figured I'd release something too. It is called, Snake Pit's Paper War.
It is a game I was working on early last year, but it soon fizzled out and I have forgotten about it. Maybe one day I will complete it. As is, it IS PLAYABLE, but for only one player and there are still a few things needing ironed out ;)
(For example, if your bullet(s) hit two guys at once, it'll only kill one)
Snake Pit's Paper War is my version of the old paper and pencil (or pen) game with various names (Paper War, War, etc...) made in AGS.
You take a piece of paper, whether it be lined or not (I always preferred non-lined paper because you weren't able to count the lines and get a direct hit every time), fold it and draw a line along the crease. After folding the paper, the two players would draw their "guys" on their side, 10 usually.
What you do is, on your turn, you line up your shot, draw a little round bullet, fold the paper over and draw another bullet over the one you drew on the other side. This would transfer the pencil or pen on to your opponent's field. Fold the paper back over and see if you hit your target. Who ever has the last man standing wins! It's VERY fun!
When I was first introduced to this type of game I was in 2nd grade and at the time it was "boats". The kid who showed me drew a bunch of these ships that very much resembled the Tie Fighter's in Star Wars (heh)... and that was it.
So I "amped it up" a bit with different guys (stick men) that you could draw and called it my own. These guys had different guns which of course was another new feature. Instead of drawing a DOT every turn, you could draw whatever that gun's bullets looked like (if you still had at least one of those guys left) which simply consisted of their own unique shape. Each gun had their own advantage. For example:
The Shotgun Gun Guy's bullets would be a cluster of 6 or 7 small dots. This would be much better than using the Regular Gun Guy which was just one dot... and you had to be a damn good shot. The only advantage to the regular Gun Guy are that nobody shoots them first!
Screenies:

Here I present to you, the unfinished playable work in progress from yesteryear:
Snake Pit's Paper War (http://www.freewebs.com/spentertainment/PW.rar)
The shots you will make are based on symmetry. You aim your shot on your field, and when shot, the result appears on the opponents field.
(The closer you are to the line, the closer it is to the line on the other side)
On the playing field, after selecting your guy, while holding the right mouse button you can either enter the menu or see how much life your tank or your enemy tank has left (starts with 20) by hovering your mouse over it. The other guys are a one hit kill.
While holding right mouse, click left mouse on the "Menu" icon that appears to enter the menu.
The Guys
Gun Guy: One dot
Shotgun Guy: A cluster of 7 (if I remember right) dots
Machine Gun Guy: A vertical line of 5 dots
Grenade Guy: An X shape
Tank: A bigger round dot
In one player mode you have no choice over who you have for guys. In the game, this option is called, "Quick Game", hence the simplicity. I had plans to give the players a choice to choose their guys and background image and style of paper (difficulty --> Easy = Lined Paper and Normal = Plain Paper) within 2 player mode, which was the main target. I had also talked to Dualnames about implementing an online mode.
The CPU AI is non-existent. It is completely random unless you have a tank, then every other turn the enemy will target your tank. It is random whether or not you or the CPU have a tank. I have no scripting skills ;) Like I said above, the main target for this game is for 2 players and online play.
Also, Hammerblade, the guy who did the soundtrack for Castle of Fire (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=33682.0), was also doing the music for this game. I had planned on having an in-game music select so you weren't stuck with the same music over and over.
Sorry for the horrible imbalance in the sound levels of the SFX and Music... :-[
Your original spelling - SnaE3 - made me crack up :=
I spent almost 2 hours getting this ready and all you have to say is that my original "E3" idea made you laugh???
m0dsie make snakie cry :'(
Haha what the hell Snake that's awesome :D
I can't believe you fizzled out on this! Currently I suck, but man it's fun haha!
It'd be kinda nice to store the previous shots on the paper so we could get some idea of aiming... or am I just being a wuss?
Anyhow, back to shooting stick men :=
Actually Ben, I did think of that because when playing with real paper and pencil, you can see where you went last time and kind of judge where to go next based on it... :)
I'm glad you like it!
Cool game, Snake. I remember playing it when I was just a wee Ponch. Once this is done I can only assume you're going to turn your programming skills to the first AGS port of Night Driver? :=

Nice BGs, but the upside-down crate's "This side up" is written in a wrong way. Turn it around and see for yourself :)
.. or was it on purpose?
Nice bush!
GRRR...your right, i wanted it upside down, but not like that....good eye Matti....ty. My style actually keeps improving, but trying to finish the game before things start to clash from the first BG to the last. Only a few more BG to do, and tons of other stuff.....I've already hit the midway wall, but i have pushed through it. Hopefully done in few months.
thanks
I thought I'd post another one... ;) Here's background #105 for The Cat Lady, the living room in a house that's inspired by Maniac Mansion. In this part of the game I've made my own version of the house we all know and love and, well, tried to make it real and scary. The layout of the house will remain also more or less faithful to the original.

Thanks! Touch interfaces throw up some interesting design challenges, but I suspect the point 'n click genre lends itself better than most.
There's some really nice pixel art in this thread. As someone artistically challenged, it's sort of heartbreaking to think that some may go unused, or languish in abandoned, half-finished projects.
@NickyNyce Loving the graphical style. More please.
@moshboy, thanks, much appreciated, this is my first few months fiddling with AGS and drawing on a computer, learning process at the moment, glad you like it, I posted another pic in the serial killers competition.

Nice Snake, reminds me of Ragdoll Cannon!

gameboy those screens look so very sweet! And all others! And on the 10th I might release something, which has been almost finished for over a year now (the longest shortest game ever).
LimpingFish presents a game made by himself!
Have you been watching Carpenter films lately, Fish? That bass line is unmistakeably Carpenter. Nice tune!
It's a shame the pixel-cleanup couldn't be done during rotation to avoid the blocky effect altogether, but I like the direction you've gone with visually. Very creepy.
Thanks, ProgZ. ;D
I have two styles of music: Carpenter and more Carpenter! With maybe a hint of Goblin when there's no more Carpenter left.
I think you are wise.
I love this thread! :D

:)
Not a game, but a video based on a game - Ben Jordan Must Die - is still in the works. It's for AGS folks and friends from my hometown, and we're showing it in the local cinema. Here's a new short clip (draft edit) that takes place away from BJ's location:

VERY BEAUTIFUL picture there, Chicky! Filled with atmosphere... the kind I love the most.
I've been trying to learn myself some AGS-scripting using existing RON resources. so now I have lots of small script bits just learning myself to pick something up or talk to someone.
Recently I started to string them together hoping it could become an actual playable RON game. The working title is Night and Day.
I think I've now done 70% or so, but due to the summer holidays it certainly won't be finished the 10th of july.
Of course I didn't plan to release a demo of such a short game, but since this is such a cool thread I made a playable demo (just threw away everything beyond the introduction).
As this is just the setup it's mainly walking and talking. But I suppose this counts as 'something'. :)
Also recently (last 2 days actually) I've been trying to learn how to use midi. So I've included a short tune under the first dialog/monolog. I'm obviously looking for ways to polish it (and find beter sounds). My respect for those of you who create game music has increased enormously these last days. 8)
Anyway, here it is:

Just fix that cross appearing to connect with the water's edge and lining up with the light's reflection. Otherwise I totally agree with Snake, very nice atmosphere and would make a fun game; if it were for a game.
Oh.. this isn't the critics lounge? :=
Yes, I agree with Ryan. The cross meeting up with the water doesn't look right. Either make it "jut" up further into the water or raise the grass a little bit.
This isn't the critic's lounge, but, could we see a PNG version of this pic? It seems to be filled with artifacts :( I would love to see the original :)
Like I said in my last post, BEAUTIFUL work. I LOVE the atmosphere!

Okay, okay, I admit. If I can find the time I also plan to release my EasyBake module (It Makes Toast!), but there's something bigger going on here. Very few people know about it.
And by very few I mean me, Dualnames, Mr Flibble, Secret Fawful, Snake, and also Maxilyah of the TTG forums. I've kept the whole thing very low key. :P

Quick question (which shouldn't be an issue for me, but just clarifying) is the "official" deadline before 12:00 AM GMT 11 July or just 12:00 AM in your local timezone on 11 July?
I don't think it matters as long as you release something! It's not like there's a jury and prize
Yep, doesn't really matter. Nobody will get upset if you're 4 hours late :)
Is that a Doom Revenant? ;D
I actually hereby vow to get furiously pissed off at any and everyone who posts "something" within the two weeks following the exact deadline of 12:00 AM 11 July in their local timezone. :=
Also, R4L is still alive?
This is basically a proof of concept mockup of a game project I thought up a few years back, and just haven't done anything with yet, although I plan to someday. I realize that the sprite is off, but it was basically a sprite I cobbled together to show how the game would work. Basically, it wouldn't be run on verbs or verb coins or verb icons or parsers, which is why you don't see any in the screen. I was hoping to develop something a little more contextual. I've done plenty of work on the game's story, just none on the game, but this is basically the first thing I've ever released of it-

Actually, why not extend your "pissed off at people releasing things" deadline until the next release something?
Two weeks seems an arbitrary, baseless period of time. Use logic and reason, man! 8)
Nah, it's not arbitrary. It's based on highly complex scientific data. See, two weeks is exactly how long after this Release Something ends that my ability to care about anything that anyone else released or didn't release will completely wear out. :P

Technically I already released this, but I'm putting it here because it never went in the games database and I don't think many people played the tech demo (http://www.onedollarproductions.co.uk/games/littlesimulatedpeople.htm). Was supposed to have more objects and features, but importing the required artwork for an object is a pain, and due to the rush to finish for MAGS the code got a bit unreadable towards the end. Also the last time I played it crashed.

Attempt one at jumping on the OceanSpirit Dennis bandwagon. Tried to do an origin story for Ray, but it clashed with other people's games.

OSD attempt two. Was supposed to be more RPG-like. I coded an RPG Maker 2000-like control system and did a load of graphics, then discovered I didn't have a story.
I am planning to release an actual game for the 10th, but it isn't one of the above. Fingers crossed.

Also, R4L is still alive?
Yes I'm still alive. :P

Here's a story. Dennis is tasked with defeating a great and silly evil, and does so.
Yes, ddq is right, but he forgot to mention that the great and silly evil is smelly too (and probably even has breasts and therefore is disgusting >:()

I liked the ridiculously tall tower. The moon within a moon seems to hint at a back story for that world. Plus, I'm a big fan of giant pixels. I love that old NES look.
Also, the high tech hallways (both the perspective one and the deeply shadowed one) were nicely done.
Lastly, what's the story with the Five Years Later guy? Did he lose his mouth in the intervening years? Or gain most of a face? I MUST KNOW!!1!
There. Feel better now? :-*
Hey, Armageddon, I liked your 3D rendering of a Dan Flavin sculpture.
;D Thanks guys.
The Five Year Later Guy lost his mouth in a street cleaner accident, it was very sad... You have to Murumph through the whole game.

I'm going to go and set the deadline for this activity as the 10th of July.
I will release 2 games I've been working on. Just for this.
(This is the first thread with >3 pages that I actually read beginning to end, and I must say that what you guys are creating is phenomenal. I wish I had even a sliver of the graphic design talent running around here)
First on the list is a game that I started a looooong while ago but eventually got bored of it and stopped. Just as recently as 3 days ago I restarted the project from scratch. Here's a first look:
There's still much to do, adding in more enemies, a shop to buy bigger/badder weapons & upgrade them, bosses, music, destroyable scenery, etc. Now, I'm terrible at graphic design, and this picture demonstrates it quite nicely ::) Those turrets (and bullets) were created 100% by me, the fighters you see were not. In fact, I hate doing graphic design. This game (and the next one) is an effort in programming, with graphics attached :=
Here's a taste (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSKHrQgRd08&feature=BFa&list=PL2394E67F5CB731BC&index=4) of the music I'll be using (shamelessly ripping...programming is my strength, and not much else :( )
Now, for the second game...
Now, I'm not completely certain I'll be able to finish both by the 10th but damn will I try. Plus, I'm gonna finish the first one before I continue work on this.
A bit of history about AGS-GH: This is a project I started way back in March of 2010.
It would have been completed if my laptop didn't get stolen >:( About a month ago I found one of my old USB sticks that had an earlier version of the work I did on it, and since then I've been meaning to get back to programming it. Thankfully, I had some help with the images and they're saved online so it shouldn't take longer then a few days to knock it out ;)
AGS Guitar Hero???
Hell YES!
You should combine the two games so that the Guitar-Hero screen would be a jet-fighter, where you'd have to "kill" enemies in the sequence they appear to make the music :P

<_<
>_>
-.-
Ya know...that's just crazy enough to work. Looks like I'm gonna need to make that 4th pot of coffee after all. (That's how I plan to be able to put enough hours of work into this to make the deadline := )
edit: approx. 288 hours until the deadline. I'm gonna have to source a small coffee bean farm within the next 12 :(

Don't ask silly questions! Of course they must! And you must tell one as well. Them's the rules, buddy! It's Oceanspirit Dennis' world and we're just living in it. ;)
I've kept a folder of game files on my desktop, under the delusion that I could one day return to them and untangle the mess I made of my first game. But after this thread made me go through my old 'design docs' I realized that there is nothing worth saving. Which is definitely for the best, as the game had no plot to speak of, and the puzzles mainly consisted of "wacky" item combinations of the "you've gotta be f***ing kidding me" variety.
But it wasn't a total loss - it taught me what NOT to do if I ever try making another game. It also forced me to draw my first game backgrounds, and make my first music tracks. And it was a lot of fun. Also, trying to code it was the tipping point that made me join these forums (so I could ask noob technical questions). And I've lurked here off and on ever since.
So to memorialize this very dead game, I hereby present two of the "best" backgrounds, and a sampling of my favorite jokes from the game.
(examine KEY) This is a key. It goes into the little hole under the knobby thing that you turn to open a door.
(lick KEY) "Oh yeah, I often lick things I find in the middle of the street. It's part of my quirky charm."
(use WEED on FLOWER) Weeds and flowers don't get along together. It's a gang thing.
(use BEER) "Woo! Slurred speech and questionable decision-making, here I come!"
(lick TOILET PAPER) This is the worst Fruit Roll-Up you've ever tasted.
(lick PORNO MAG) Oh, no. You learned your lesson about licking things when you got ink poisoning from your Keira Knightley poster.
(smell EAR) It smells very eerie. (drum sting)
(smell SOUP) It smells like burnt octopus farts.
(use DILDO on NOSE) "Ow."
(examine DEAD RABBIT) Look- it's four lucky rabbit's feet, attached to one very unlucky rabbit!
(use STICK on DEAD RABBIT) Poking dead things with a stick; isn't that the official leisure activity where you come from? "No, marrying your sister is the official leisure activity where I come from."
(use BEER on DEAD RABBIT) Shouldn't you be solving puzzles or something?
(use LUBE on PORNO MAG) You show off your lube to the girls in the magazine. Being seasoned veterans with battle-hardened vaginas, they are unimpressed.
(use SOUP on itself) Even your soup wouldn't eat your soup.
(use BEEF JERKY on CRAB) The crab tries to take a bite, but it hurts its... mouth-parts that crabs have that chew things.
(use BEEF JERKY on SEAWEED) Jerked beef and dehydrated seaweed go together like marathon running and diarrhea.
(use BEEF JERKY on FEATHERS) Generic Joke #39 not found. For technical assistance, please bang your head against the wall until blood starts to leak from your ears.
(use CRAB on DEAD RABBIT) If you wanna play Pokemon, do it on your own time. We're adventure-gaming here!
(use CRAB on SOUP) You try to jam the crab into the boiling soup, but its stupid will to live is too strong.
(examine AFROMAN TOY) He has a sexy frown that says "I'm a badass muthafucka who's also sensitive to a woman's needs, bitch."
(use LIGHTER on CASH) You set fire to the pile of cash and feel powerful and free ...for about 2 seconds. Then you feel like a dumbass who just burned all her money.
(use LIGHTER on PORNO MAG) Setting the magazine ablaze will have a negative effect on its collector's value.
(use LIGHTER on WEED) As you light the marijuana on fire, you feel a sudden urge to abandon all your earthly responsibilities and become a Ghostbuster. Which is totally a real career choice.
(examine UNICYCLE) "What am I supposed to do with one-half of a bicycle?" Pretend it's one-third of a tricycle? (drum sting)
(use UNICYCLE on SOUP) You're just about to stir the soup by pedaling the unicycle in it, but then you realize that it's a stupid idea, and anyone who says otherwise is a communist.
(use PAINTING on CRAB) The crab shows its opinion of your artistic work by chewing off a corner and spitting it at you.
(use PAINTING on DILDO) Your dildo is more of a Georgia O'Keefe fan.
(use LIPSTICK on DILDO) You draw a little smily face on it.
(use LIPSTICK on CASH) You draw an eyepatch and a ballgag on George Washington's face. I swear, modern art just keeps getting worse and worse.
(examine CASH) Did you know that if you flip a huge stack of cash like a flipbook, you can see... everyone around you grow bitter and resentful?
(use GLOVE on DEAD RABBIT) You pet the bunny on its fuzzy-wuzzy head. The head then falls off, and you smoosh it back in place.
(use LIPSTICK on GLOVE) You draw lips and eyes on the glove, and then start making out with it. "I do not! Stop making shit up!
(examine Hooker) Why can't hookers ever look like Julie Roberts in Pretty Woman? This one looks like the Olsen twins- if you smashed them together at high speed.

It's a shame I won't be able to release anything playable during this epic release something.
That looks fantastic, gameboy. Looking forward to playing it.
Hopefully that top default GUI is just temporary. It's so tacky looking with those backgrounds, and obviously doesn't have a purpose.
Thanks Ryan! Right, the GUI is only temporary.
Hey Odysseus, I like the art style of those backgrounds. They're cute!
Well I've never made anything in AGS, but am planning a bit of a slow burner of a project in my spare time. So far I have a grand total of 1 background, but I though if I made a couple of sprites next to put on it, I could start experimenting with the engine. The rate I am going it will probably take a couple of years, but hey at least I have started.
The game setting with be Fantasy, swords and sorcery, an evil Warlock, a damsel in distress and all that. For reasons not known to myself I started with a central place on my world map, which is just a crossroads but I thought it would give me a nice base to link other locations from, I have the rooms mapped out and a plot roughed out so next up will be creating a character, animating it and then seeing how everything fits together with AGS. Definately not enough done for a GIP thread so I guess it goes here in the spirit of releasing stuff in July :)
Style wise I took insperation from a few places, but I wanted to keep it feeling fairly old school ish but not be too strict about colour depths (so no anti-aliasing but still adding things like depth hue to give it a more modern feel).
MIND=BLOWN. That among with everything in this topic really makes this the MOST AMAZING topic of ALL TIME. ALL TIME. :D
Yeah, that really is a beautiful palette, very creative and stylish with some clever choices in there. Lovely work!

Hooray, now Dualies can stop going on about how amazing the forums used to be and how they're not like that anymore and all that ;D

Heh thanks, I have never played any of the zelda games (not a nintendo fan tbh) but I can't take the credit for the technique. It was something I saw on this piece http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/39173.htm (http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/39173.htm) when I was mulling over how to do trees for the leaves etc. I took a look at that and thought it would be quick to do using photoshop and a wacom with using the pencil tool set to size variation on a square brush. There was another piece on that sites gallery I took some of the green colours from as well for the palette I'll try hunt it out as as reference if I can find it again.
I created a thread for my project that I will be releasing: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43920.msg584342#new
You will all love it. ::) 8)
Also, @Wreck: That is pretty amazing. I can't wait to see something playable in that graphical style. :)
Thanks, ProgZmax.
You actually did a paint-over of one of my backgrounds aeons ago in the Critic's Lounge, so you're partly responsible for the level of polish on those screens. Although I look at them now and think they could still use a little oomph.
Well, they were fun to do, anyway.
Just reminding everyone that you've got one week left to show off your wares, or finishing polishing up any demos!
Get those somethings released, folks, you're nearly out of time!
A character design for a game in progress, which is definitely an adventure game, even though this guy looks like he's straight outta FPS-ville.

I have Released Something!
Read all about it here! (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43931.0)
Now come on, everybody. There's still plenty of time for more releasings of various somethings. All the cool kids are doing it! :=
I have released something better than Ponch's silly thing. It is here:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43932.0
That's right, it's the long awaited EasyBake module: It Makes Toast! :=
Finally! My games will at long last have that little extra toasty something they've been missing! :=
Hey, for my other Release Something project, I need at least one more voice actor. I had all the roles filled (probably) but Snake had to bail on me due to some unforeseeable, unpreventable, serious real-life issues. I don't mean to bring his personal business here, so please don't go pestering him about it, I just mean to say that I didn't come up with a back-up plan because I was busy enjoying the idea of Snake reading the lines I had written.
If I've already asked you to do voice acting (you know who you are) and you think you can read the lines in a different voice, feel free to let me know. I'm totally open to suggestion at this point (so long as the suggestion isn't for me to have to read them! :P). There's about 161 lines of dialogue, most of it is rather short though. Please contact me immediately if you're willing to fill the role. Time is running short and I don't want to have to release this without full voice acting just to meet the deadline. (TRUST ME: THE SPEECH IS ESSENTIAL TO THE EXPERIENCE!!).
Worst comes to worst I might try and read them myself, but I'm working the next few days so I would have basically Saturday and Sunday to finish everything.
Also, there are two other roles that I only have a partial confirmation on, and some of you haven't been as forthcoming as others with status updates, so who knows what's gonna happen with this thing? :=
In any case, I've had some amazing work done already and I love everyone who has helped me out in making this a possibility. Seriously, you have no idea how much happy you has mad me (sic). ;D

Sent you a PM. Let me know if I can help. :-\
Hey, the voice actory needs have been fulfilled at this point (AFAIK!!1), so thanks to everyone who responded! (You know who the Ponch and Grundislav you are! :=)
In celebration of this wonderful event, I present to you, the Playlist module (http://meleepta.x10hosting.com/Playlist.rar)!
That's right, I've released something..else. Something slightly more..how did Khris put it?..useful! :=
Check it out if you like music and having things in your game. 8)
Edit: What the heck is going on here? I've released another module?! I'm a maniac! A MANIAC! And this module dates back to 2009 (or earlier!). I wrote the module, documented it, made a fully functional demo, and never, ever, ever released it. Until now! Be the first to enjoy the StateMachine module (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43948.0)*!
*While supplies last. Offer void where prohibited. Not available in Atlantis or certain other non-existent countries. No purchase necessary. For full module rules and regulations, open the header file once you've imported the SCM into your game. Many might download, you might win.
I've been working on a Tile Engine Module.
Called UTE (Unnecessary Tile Engine).
Currently is merely loads and Displays TMX Maps http://www.mapeditor.org/ at different Resolution.
It already supports isometric and orthogonal maps and different layers.
Not much more though.
I'll try to add as much functionality as I can till the deadline. As I basically have no time this will be hard
Here's a screen:
(http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/4805/isoi.png) (http://img135.imageshack.us/i/isoi.png/)
Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)
PS: I also found out a nice way to do these 3d tiles so I'll add the tileset as a goody.
Maaaaaan! :-[ Now the EasyBake module really does seem useless!
:=
I don't know if I will have time to finish that other EasyBake-related project that I made mention of in its thread, but my main Release Something Project is still underway and on schedule for a Sunday release. Trust me, it's gonna hit this place like a..well..you'll have to see won't you? 8)

I give you people delicious toast with the EasyBake module. I improve your sex lives with the Playlist module. I introduce religion into your pitiful existences with the Flying Spaghetti--er--StateMachine module. All the while I'm working on a project so big, who even knows whether the feeble Internet will be able to contain it?!
So, I give you all of this, all of this out of the burning secret desire to seize control of the world once you've all lost the ability to do things without one of my fabulous mod--er--the goodness of my heart. All of this out of the goodness of my heart!!
Still the cry comes out for more! "But monkey," you say, "you haven't enslaved all of--" --er-- "--you haven't produced a self-aware, self-replicating module yet!" All in due time my precious followers, all in due time.
^_^
Hey, what do you know if I haven't just released a short story? :P I am literally on fire! Good thing this monkey was born with a new sort of hybrid skin formed using DNA samples from LeChuck's demon beard. Just ask hellomoto, he knows.
..oh, yeah, he doesn't post here any more. :-\ Ah well, his loss*.
*(and he shall pay for his insolence, MUAHAHAHA! --er, I mean, I will gladly greet him with a firm manly handshake and a smile should he ever choose to return!)
Well, technically, we SkyGoblins just released something.
Please head on over to this thread (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43955.0)where Markus just opened up the first shaky version of our custom resolution AGS branch, for everyones unstable enjoyment!
STOP BEING SO F#$#^*% AMAZING ALL OF YOU!!
Nowhere near as amazing, but a personal landmark.
CybMusic now sports 144 cities and 109 countries! :) Seeing as how each country will have its own charts for genres and your bands' reputations are separate for each country as well, it should provide interesting gameplay, at least I feel. Next up, I'll add more person names from different countries, as many as I can find on Wikipedia, leaving it up to the (eventual) database editor(s) to add in their own country's names. Then, RECORDING STUDIOS! :D :D :D

I don't think there's a single thing in this thread I do not love. Everything here is so inspiring!
I thought I'd jump in and share some things I've made.
Some art I've made for games that never were:

...and the night time version:

Here's a cutscene image of a project I really had no specific idea for. Basically made it for fun:
This is a screenshot from an adventure platformer that was mostly a style experiment:
Early mockups of a puzzle platformer I've been designing. I think I'll still make this one some day:
And here's some music:
Difficult Times (http://pabs.org/music/Difficult%20Times.mp3)
Fear (http://pabs.org/music/Fear.mp3)
Immune To Pain (http://pabs.org/music/Immune%20To%20Pain.mp3)
Melancholopolis (http://pabs.org/music/Melancholopolis.mp3)
We Might Get Through This (http://pabs.org/music/We%20Might%20Get%20Through%20This.mp3)
That's all I can think of sharing right now. There's probably a whole bunch of old unfinished stuff hidden somewhere in a pile of hard drives. But getting my hand on those would require a hat, a whip and a degree in archeology.
I just want to state that I live in the GMT-6 timezone, and I reserve the right to go until 0:00:00 GMT-6 11 July 2011 for my release date. Today, I'm off to work. Tomorrow..I'm gonna be busy on getting this thing finished!
Anywhooo, lovely things Pablo good sir. :=

Gotta love the duality of meaning there. :D

Hey Icey, played your game and kinda liked it. Nice sprites and backgrounds also liked the action sequence and the pacing of the story (not the dialogs so much). I think the more you get rid of the Final fantasy stuff the more I see of the original icey (and partly ben ^^) style the more i like those games.
YET there is some critique here: THE GAME IS BUGGY! Actually it crashed during the cutscene
Spoiler
when they are about to go to the flying island
Also the battle system is virtually broken. Only attack is working for me and at the "final" battle you can just walk towards the enemy and it will miss you. Damn, considering how many games with broken battle systems you released, I'm thinking about coding a battle system module just that I don't have to sit through these anymore.
Also the battles are tedious and boring, think of spicing them up or make them shorter.
But don't get discouraged, youll get there eventually. At some places you could really see your vision come to life. Once you mastered that your games will have a magical atmosphere.
Way to go!
PS: Write me a PM about that battle system module.
Thanks mode7 for the comments & playing the game, I thought there was bugs but couldn't find them myself. I am slowly breaking away from FF in my games.
Since this isn't over yet i will see what I can fix. I think with every RPG I make the next one will always be better. I learn things based off old things I worked and improve for the for new things I'm working on.
Also I just noticed why the battles are long.
1) HP is too high
2) Mog doesn't do anything
3) I don't know how to store the HP.
Meaning you have 100 as you base HP and after a battle you might level up giving you +10hp. You should go back to 100 after the battle plus the 10hp. Making 110hp the base HP
Also is there a way to keep the HP from going over the base? like if you use a potion while having 100(base)hp it shouldn't jump to 110hp, it should do nothing.
int hp;
int baseHp=100;
(when leveling up)
baseHp=baseHp+10;
hp=baseHp;
(used potion)
hp=hp+10;
if (hp>baseHp) hp=baseHp;
Sorry if there are errors, I haven't coded since AGS 2.6 :)
Thanks I will give that a shot.
S*** already the 10th. So, after being stuck in that maze for some times here it is, freshly rebuilted and alpha-tested :

Something is something. And, for the 4th times, this was SOMETHING.
Just released this: AGS Editor with docking panels! (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43965.0)
Wait so does this date thing effect every one cause where I live it's still the 9th. :P
My ISP didn't fix my problem, still, so I can't release my game material, as shit as it is. But none the less, I think it's worth showing you something from the in-progress Kinky Island, as it's been a long time:

Like LUniqueDan says....it's something ;)
You also get 10 points if you can guess our new background artist :=
Well sweet bajeebus while I was waiting for the final few voice actors to finish up their lines, I've done it again..
I HAVE RELEASED SOMETHING! (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43966.msg584840#msg584840)
Hooray! ;D
This has been a very productive Release Something for me. :=
Ok, my turn.

A game that chicky and I were working on in days gone past.
Not alot to do but you get to look at the eye candy and the interface to some degree.
Last day Ninja post!
Beauty of the beast

Download demo (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6325410/Beauty_of_the_Beast_Demo.zip)
A small demo of the game I've been working on for far too long.
Special thanks to Baron and Crimson Wizard for helping me out so far. Thanks to you guys I'm confident the project will get done.... some day.
PS: The slider puzzle does work but it has a bug afterwards. So it's best to play that one separately from the rest if you want to test it out. That puzzle is not required to finish the demo anyway.
So much goodness in this thread, but as Buckethead has pointed out, it is indeed the final day to get your submissions in. I'll let the deadline run a little bit so that we cover all time zones, of course, but make sure you get all your stuff finalized and uploaded, guys! If you've got something to release, now is the time to do it!
Special ninja-release!
WHATEVER COULD THIS MEAN!?

And who is this fellow?
This thread is so awesome.
The something I'm working on is almost finished, but I don't know if it'll get done today... just under 12 hours left in my timezone...
*weeps at the beauty of it all*
Be a shame if I started all this without releasing something of my own, so I proudly present:

A demo! My first ever demo, at that! And you may click here (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?category=&action=detail&id=1450&refresh1310303486) should you wish to play it :D
WOOOOOW!
This is incredible â€" such a lot of jewels came up here - YOU ROCK! (http://www.smilie-harvester.de/smilies/Movie/bluesbrother.gif)
(... and me is going for a little demo-play now ;))
Ben: Nice little extra touches on that game since the last version I played.
I noticed quite a few game crashing bugs. Like walking to the video screen behind Double20's counter while she's already standing behind the counter. Or calling the church ends up with that second eye companies dialog. Then the dialog for that eye company results in one that says "Move Straight" "Move Forward" and stuff like that. Must be the dialog for the tv screen adjustment.
Anyway, this thread has been pretty interesting. I've enjoyed everything that you guys have posted.
Progz: Are you working on a second Mind's Eye? Ooooo
Edit: Actually Ben, I meant to say. That spray painting thing you added for fun, you should've made it spray paint faintly instead of a full opacity spray. That way you could do shading and have a really fancy spray logo. :P
Oh wow, I went into my game's files and somehow all my dialog numbers got mixed up :P
Hopefully it is fixed, big thanks to Ryan Timothy and Tabata for pointing the errors out :)

Ben, don't act like this isn't directed at me. I'm waiting on Mr. Flibble, then I have to head somewhere with better internets to upload this thing. The primary download will be ~150MB. The secondary download will be ~215MB. The tertiary download will be also be ~150MB. It's gonna take me FOREVER to upload these. In fact, I may not be able to upload them as single files. := If I can upload these to my current webhost, it's going to completely max out my storage. ^_^
Edit: So, despite some rather serious problems that cropped up in the real-world side of things, the upload is on it's way to MediaFire's servers. 14% as we speak for the primary download. The secondary download will have to be moved from it's originally planned location, I'll put details on that when I get it uploaded and ready for links to be posted. := I'll post the first two links while the third is uploading.
Need....more....tiiiimeeee...

Yeah... not going to finish today. I'll have to release it at some point next week. Still, might mean it gets tested first.
Congratulations to the people who did manage to get things out, there's some awesome things in this thread.
Ok this is my commitment to the release something:
FractAGS (http://wyz.agser.me/dl/other/FractAGS.zip)
Controls:
You can stop rendering at any point by holding Right Mouse
Button.
When not rendering you can drag and draw a rectangle, this will
zoom in on this window. Again to cancel, Right Mouse Button.
Keys:
F5 Re-render
F9 Restart the program
F12 Save the pretty picture to a file
Space Toggle render modes (see below)
Render modes:
Fast:
Renders blocks of 128 by 128 from top left to bottom right, it's
pretty fast but maybe a bit boring. :P
Slow but awesome:
Uses a progressive and randomized rendering pattern. It will
focus at the mouse position and work it's way to finer grids
graduately.
Impressive stuff Wyz.
Alirhgt, it's finally HEREEEEE!!
The single-greatest "something" you've ever seen!!1 (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43973.0)
This will probably be my final "Release Something" contribution, but I'm not making any promises.
So...do I win?
So is it over? Is it time to clean up after the party? Did somebody win something? I only ask because it's very late at night and I need a ride home. :D
Well, ladies and gentlemen of AGS, the 10th has passed us and it's time to pull down the decorations, pack up the leftover food and stumble home through poorly-lit streets, slightly drunk with the still present joy brought by such an amazing event.
I never would have imagined that we'd see so much amazing stuff released in the space of a single month! It's a fine display of just how diverse and exciting the talents are here in the AGS community. I don't think I've been so proud of being a part of the AGS scene for a very long time. Congrats to everyone who released something, this was a beautiful display of your various projects, and I definitely think that we should do the exact same thing in a year's time.
Thanks once again to everyone who participated, commented and/or changed your name to something with 'E3' in it. You guys and girls are awesome! :D
I agree! \o/
And thanks, Ben, for kick-starting this whole shebang. :D
Well it's over. I guess now the last thing I should do is finish the site and get the links & pics together.
I had actually completely forgotten about "Release Something" activities until Icey mentioned his "AGS E3" idea, so good on him for being the initial catalyst!
Aw thanks Ben. I would have never knew about release something until you made the topic ;)
Thank you all!
It's been a wonderful party
and all the „somethings“ were incredible!

Something to be proud of
and something to watch out for, to be done again!
