Title: Returning to my game...
Post by: Risk on Thu 08/09/2005 02:00:26
Ã,  Ã, For a short time, I have deviated from finishing my game, Utopia Prime. Recently, I have decided to finish it, and with the Chris' new additions to AGS, I feel obligated. I have already done so much and I cannot just decide to stop working on it ... similar to training a character in an mmorpg. :P

Ã,  Ã,  If you are unfamiliar with the game lemme just briefly review it for you. You play this guy named Skylos Makali who works for a top secret organization called ISLAM (Investigators of Suspicious Lab Activities threatening Mankind). To determine the status of each lab, Dr. Makali is sent to observe all notable activities and generate a report based on his observations. If the report supports evidence that a lab is indeed threatening mankind, ISLAM has members in affiliation with military leaders who will send armed troops to this lab, forcing them to disengage their activities.Ã,  Anyway, the game starts out on a small island, where Makali enters a lab unlike any he's ever seen before. In it, he encounters a series of strange contraptions that he never could have possibly imagined. Upon finishing his own self-guided tour, he immediately concludes that the entire lab is abandoned ... or so he thinks.

Ã,  Ã,  I hope to share a demo with this community soon. If all goes well, one may be available before November. If you are interested in helping out (in maybe graphics *cough* *cough*), this would be nice, but by no means necessary. I am a busy person and so I rarely have time to work on this game, but when I find time, I use it to work on this game as much as possible. Graphics are always the most time consuming (which is why help would be nice), but the end product is always worth it. I always remind myself: Utopia Prime will be the next classic of postmodern adventure games. And I still believe it.

I think you have enough stuff to start a thread in the "Games in Production" forum already. :D

Wow indeed! That's pretty neat stuff...

By the way, did you know that Skylos means "Dog" in Greek? That's a funny name for a character :P

Heh, no I actually had no idea! But now that I consider it, this is perfect, since I wanted Skylos Makali to somewhat resemble Indiana Jones. If you're an Indy fan, you'd know Indiana is a dog's name; George Lucas' dog, funny enough! Moreover, in the Indiana Jones movie, you'll hear Shawn Connery make a reference to this when he says: "I like Indiana! We named the dog Indiana!"

Anyway, thanks for the comments. :) I always appreciate it when someone else realizes the true intention of these types of games: keep the past alive, minus the time machine!

Hehe that's cool... Very ironic. Maybe it was Destiny. Or maybe some other high forces beyond our understanding. Or maybe it was just luck.. Either way, good luck with your project ;D
