Anybody here enjoy this game as much as I do? Now that the weather is getting nicer around here, I went back to my old park to work on it. (I seem to only play this game when spring and summer come)

I have the first one and the second, but I enjoy creating my parks in 3.

It was a park i started last year, and now have become re-addicted to this game.

I own all the RCT games, but this is my favorite. I love being able to ride the rides.

:)

There's a chance I do
When I first saw RCT (it was 2nd, I missed 1st), I was simply fallen in love. Such cute and kind games  ;D

Had to respond just to this.

This is totally my case with Port Royale, I ONLY play it in summer for some reason.

Yep - it's phat :D I haven't played it since early '09, I've been replaying the original and also JP: Operation Genesis. But you're right, it's massively addictive. If it wasn't for the fact I've only got 4 missions left & and that sandbox makes me think, what the hell am I really doing with my time, I'd play more of it. Be sure to get the expansion packs, well worth it - and well worth being able to take coasters underground :) However, my most detailed map won't load anymore...

I think this is the game series I've spent most hours on, by a long way. The original was a classic (Chris Sawyer programmed it on his own almost entirely in assembly language) and its add-ons just improved it. 2 had better graphics and was easier to make better looking parks, but I wish they'd kept the idea of unlocking scenarios rather than have them all open, and the add-ons were uninspiring.

I don't think 3 has the level of strategy that 1 and 2 had, but for sandboxing it's amazing. The graphics are still great and riding the rides looks really good as well. I agree with Mods, the add-ons are essential as well.

Guess I know what I'm going to be doing with my weekend.

Questionable

I remember being addicted to the first (and all its expansions) but when the second came out I was really disappointed because it was the same game... so I stopped playing altogether. Years later I found out that they were making a third one but by then I was into shooter games. My Grandmother bought it for me for my Birthday about a year and half ago, or so... never played it. I found it on my bookshelf, installed it (it was the Platinum Edition YAY FOR EXPANSIONS!) and I literally just played the game from 4AM to 8:30AM so far!

VERYVERYVERYADDICTING
All my trophies have disappeared... FINALLY! I'm free!

Domino

I already have Soaked and Wild.

I could not make a decent water park to save my life, and believe me I have tried. I can't remember if I got one single water slide to work properly.  :)

The park that I have been working on is way to small. It is a custom scenario that I made and I wanted it to be nice and cozy with a very small park atmosphere. Now I've realized I am running out of room, and no place to put my new coasters. Oh well, DEMOLITION TIME for some old rides I guess.

Apparently my coasters are TOO scary... pussies.

I actually much prefer RCT1. Call me old fashioned. :P

After playing this and think about my experiences with the originals. This game is much more accesible. The oriinals focused more on strategizing and allocation of resources, where as this feel like the creators of Bejeweled retooled RCT, passed it off to some Web 2.0 designer to slap on a sexy UI and toned down the difficulty. Rather than sit for hours worried, pulling my hair out, making every dollar count, advertising at the right time, etc- I just sit back and play and almost always win by accident withing 45 minutes! Sometimes though, I like to sit and agonize... It's why I play Civilization...

RC1 and 2 are secret spies who do things gingerly and intelligently. RC3 is Chris Evans, cocky, flash, easy but with a lot of good under the surface...

Well that's really actually why I prefer the first two. I actually really liked the pressure and fast pace and what difficulty there was. While RCT 3 is fun, it's a bit too easy and less serious for my taste.

Questionable

Either way, I've got to be in the mood. If I'm feeling like superstrategyboy then RC3 just isn't going to diddle my klangjubs... but if i'm feeling like having a bit of fun making crazy roller coasters, shooting fireworks and winning shit, it'll do me just fine. It's all about MOOOOoooOOoOOoODs. You know, light a candle, incense, play some jazz, eat some chocolate, smell a rose, build a coaster...

Oh definitely. Such is life.  ;)

Great, look what you made me do.

Now I won't leave the house for 2 weeks.

Me too. RCT 2 was overwhelming and RCT 3 just plain ugly. Steel rollecoaster with nothing shining like steel is a total failure. I wanted to get into RCT3 just to get closer what riding my rollercoaster would really feel like, but with graphics feeling even worse than Half-life - game made 8 years before, that didn't work really.

Only thing RCT1 lacked was "speed up" button, just like every other Chris Sawyer game.
Customer AI is incredibly dumb in all three games, sadly. I wish they'd made another game, with modern looks and AI.

Danman

I liked the first too. 2nd was a bit too difficult to me. ;D

OneDollar

Yeah, the first was the best. I'd start playing that again if I hadn't lost my discs. I can only find Added Attractions (aka Corkscrew Follies) which is pretty useless on its own.

Had a look at my saved scenarios, but I haven't got anything very impressive. I tend to start new sandboxes instead of adding to one main one.

Domino

OneDollar, looks like you don't have any problems with building water parks. Looks very nice.

I shall have to try again sometime. Maybe a new larger park. I really don't feel like starting over again, but i might.

Okay, I'm at work, time to get out of here. Be home soon.

Water slides aren't that hard; the start is a single block of station somehow attached to a swimming pool area (raised decking/paths etc), and the end can be pretty much anything that lands in water (...or not ;)) of the same area. Slides also have a special ending section with a lip on the end that extends into the next tile, which means you place the end section in one tile then a swimming pool level with it the next tile along. The rest is just like a regular coaster except it needs to drop much more than it climbs. Only problem with pools is that if you try and create slides with exit pools separate from the main pool, people go and swim in them :P

I found some older screenshots I made in the first park scenario  :):

BTW water slides are cool, especially when you make people drop on the ground instead of waterpool  ;D
