Title: Saving a movie from an game's webpage
Post by: Kinoko on Mon 16/05/2005 14:17:57
There's a website for a game I'm interested in (Summon Night), which has a lovely movie on it now. Usually I can save this sort of stuff, but because of the way this is embedded, I'm not sure how/if I can save it. I can't see the filename in the source code, and I'm not even sure if it's a swf file or what.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get this saved? I've looked in Firefox cache but can't see any trace of it.

(I recommend people with dial up don't even look at this webpage, even the menu needs to "load").

If not, the game's worth looking at anyway ^_^ Very pretty, and the music's gorgeous.

By the way, the movie isn't that stuff you see first. That's just an elaborate menu introduction. You can skip it, and click on "movie" on the right-hand side.

Wow they still make 2D rpgs? It does look quite nice.  Getting the video is a bit tough, the player is embedded in a flash movie, the flash animation gets the video content from elsewhere, however it won't tell you where because flash animations are encrypted, and the video is in macromedia's .flv format anyway.  The server is so slow at the moment I haven't even managed to download the whole (only 15mb) thing yet.  I'll convert it to a sensible format and post it if I manage to get it.

Damn that took a while to download.

Now, the file youre looking for is the .flv file. It was stored in my temp dir as snexpv01[1].flv. But i don't know how firefox will call it. It's about 15 mb's in size tho.

Now, a FLV is a compressed version of SWF as for as i know, but you cant open it in a normal browser. To open it localy you'll need a nifty little program to do so.
You can download one for free here:

Don't worry, its not even a half mb in size :P and it's not trial ware, so you dont have to buy it after X amount of time.

(looks like a real fun game btw)

Thanks a lot guys! ^_^ I really appreciate it.

I'll have to save the downloading for tomorrow though, can't keep my eyes open anymore.

http://www.summonnight.net/snworld/snex/snexpv01.flv is the actual url to the file by the way, if you want to save him some bandwidth, I would have linked that but I didn't know there were easy free flv players.  I encoded it into an avi but I get beeps all over the audio for some reason, and can't get rid of them so far.
