well, what do you think? do you think Corby is guilty for attempting to smuggle 4.1kg of marijuana into Bali?
Does it really matter? She was already convicted to 20 years.
We don't know all the facts about the case, we can only really give judgment based on whats been filtered down to the media.
We don't need the facts! Let's demonise Indonesia and let the inner xenophobe lose!
Just think of one thing:
Who would try to smuggle the stuff out of Australia and into bali?
It's probably worth more in Aus, I think they grow it in Bali.
Wait, why am I talking about this? Who cares? It's done
Who's Corby?
she invented the trouser press.
It's actually not true about it being worth more in Aust. There is a market for it in bali.
I don't think a single person has the right (apart from her and the cops present, perhaps) to say that she's guilty or inoocent. We -don't- know. We can give an opinion, but that's all.
I'm not assuming she's one or the other, but I do believe it was very, very lousy for her to be convicted like that. I watched the court case and listened to the judge's reasons, and the fact of the matter is that she wasn't proven guilty. No one could prove she didn't do it, no one could prove she did. I don't know if she's innocent or guilty, but I know she shouldn't have been convicted the way she was.
I agree that we should respect Indonesia's law, if for nothing else but the sake of good relations between countries (at least for us Aussies). We'd want them to respect our laws. I believe their legal system has some rather serious flaws though, and I think they have the wrong idea about how to deter drug traffickers (because lets face it, a lot of them are plain stupid. The penalties don't matter because they don't believe they'll be caught).
I personally believe an incredible injustice has been done. As utterly, UTTERLY sick as I am of the name Shapelle Corby (god jesus, it's been on tv for AGES!), I don't believe what was done to her is right at all. She shouldn't have been convicted until she was proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. 20 years is WAY too long for trafficking marijuana (as much as I hate the stuff), and their disgusting jail cells should only be used for rapists and mass murderers (who would likely be killed over there anyway so what's the point?).
Make her a scrawny Asian looking bloke and put her on death row in Vietnam.
Or make her a bloke with a beard and send her to Guantanamo Bay, and everyone will forget it in favour of the news reports detaling the post Miss Universe life of Jennifer Hawkins.
UGLY . .er I mean Guilty . . hmm, no, actually I do mean ugly. :=
You know that riddle about a man going to a town with two barbers, one with a bad haricut and one with a good haircut, so he goes to the former.
Well she's a beauty student.
I don't know that riddle. What's that riddle?
Basically it's like, there's a town with only two barbershops. One of the barber's hair is horribly cut, the other one's hair is a beauty. Which barber would you go to?
Spoiler
The former, because if there's only the two of them they cut each other's hair, and the one with the bad haitcut gave the other one that beauty of a haircut
Though I failed to grasp Naranjas' Punchline...
"The protest came as a new Morgan poll found only 51 per cent of Australians believe Corby is not guilty. An increasing number - 21 per cent - believe she is guilty while 28 per cent remain undecided."
hey! Guess who the smartest 28 per cent are
Quoteonly 51 per cent
Yeah, nothing big, ONLY half the people who took the poll.
Ok, I give up. I know nothing about this case, can anyone link me to an article? I really don't want to have to sort through whateher ALtavista will give me, especially since all I know is that it's drug-related.
She was caught trying to smuggle marijuana into Indonesia. She had her trial there. She was convicted to 20 years and is having an appeal. According to the media everyone in Australia is saying she is innocent. I'm not, and most of the people I know couldnt give a toss.
...well, if she was *caught* I don't see there's any room for argument about it...
Nuff said, sir Cameron
Um, what was that comment about flukeblake?
Also, I have no interest. But being caught with it isn't the same and being caught "red handed", never heard of a plant? :P
QuoteShe was caught trying to smuggle marijuana into Indonesia.
THis is all I know on the subject. ANd it reads "caught trying to", not "caught with". I have to remind you I'm quite under-informed on this, and the only info I saw was the above sentence.
yeah, but caight trying to smuggle, I assume, means caught with. At least, thats how I've been told.
Btw, Rui. That comment wasn't really directed at you :P I was just commenting.
She had 4.1 kg I think, in her body board case. And Flukeblake, what was that comment about?
I have no idea of whether she is innocent or not, I wasn't there.
She was asked if the bodyboard case was hers, she said yes.
it contained marijuana.
she didn't have a lock on the bag, so it could have been planted.
If she is innocent, it's scary that the difference between being a prisoner in a foriegn country for 20 years is a couple of bucks for a lock.
but I can't really comment on the case as I've only heard what the Australian media have told us, and I'm sure it's biased.
I wonder when they are going to replay the mini series "Bangkok Hilton" with Nicole Kidman http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096540/
