Hi all,
I've been browsing the web a bit and couldn't easily locate the information on Google. However, I remembered we have a few scots among us.
During the early 17th century, that is 1604-1614 to be precise, was Scotland occupied by the English?
I'm doing some background work on Richard McRoch and it would fit really well with his character if this were so. :)
You'll never get a Scotsman to admit to that!
scotland was founded in 1922 by Lord scotland for a bet. It was originally meant as a place to store all of the people soceity rejected, poets, castle builders, train attendants, unfortunatley, the beautiful landscape that was scotland attracted many visitors and is now a major tourist attraction.
I dunno if occupied is the word... from 1603 to 1625, James VI of Scotland was also James I of England. So there was one king of England and Scotland, but he was Scottish.

Somehow the word occupied got put in my head by Mel Gibson a.k.a. Braveheart.
The thing is that my character would resent English control over his country.
But as I can read about this James VI character, he was quite popular in Scotland and NOT in England.
So he's the opposite ruler that I want him to be. Blast. :)
Oh, King James. He is the originator of my favourite quote from a monarch. When he was first presented to the English as their king, they all bowed to him. His response: "God's wounds, I will pull down my breeches and they shall also see my arse!"
Best. King. EVER.

His entire family wasn't very popular, they managed to get the entire monarchy kicked out, only to be let back in when England found the Protectorate was worse, then managed to get kicked out again in favour a Dutch import. They managed to attempt come back that helped destroy the Scottish national spirit. They're now relegated to supporting characters in Gabriel Knight 3.
