This is my see you later thread.... I don't know if I will have access to sites such as this once I leave (If you don't know I'm in the US Army and I'm heading to Iraq)... So this is my see you later thread....
I wanna thank everyone for the fun posts to read, and the help in the Beginner Tech and Tech forums...
Don't worry though I have to come back... I've had over 500 downloads of my AGS Demo, so I have to come back and finish it for you all...
Don't get killed, ok?
Good luck and God speed.
We'll be here when you get back!
Take care and be safe,
darth mandarb
Stay safe in Iraq and come home as quickly as possible.

-OSC
Good luck man...
Take care man! And bring me some babilonic ancient artifacts! :D
We look to seeing you again soon! Hope you get to come home to the good ol' red, white and blue as soon as possible! :)
Our hopes and prayers go with you.
good luck, and be safe
Oh, thats what a guy wants to hear before he goes to Iraq as apart of the US army, "Don't Get Killed"...
Nice way to send him off... :P
Bye Alynn, hope you get back soon... or at least find some internet cafe (if they have them?) to post to tell about the sights (dirt), the sounds (chaos) and the smells (sewer)... :)
Take care, Alynn!
Make us proud.
(And then write a game about it ;) )

Most of the people in "conflict" are in conflict by accident.. that is, they're guarding some street corner and then a man or child with a bomb strapped under his shirt walks up and chaos insues.. Right now the biggest threat is from the cleric who declared he would die before the US would rule his homeland, but there's no army to march on, they work with small localized attacks.
My best wishes, watch your back. I would say enjoy the sights (Iraq has some amazing architecture in its temples) but I don't think it's really safe to be walking around as an American soldier in the streets of Iraq right now..
.... words of comfort and peace from above....
although I guess it doesn't hurt to say be careful...
It would be smart if the military used undercover people instead of full battledress, just a guy with a bullet proof vest and an ak47 is less of a target then a us soldier
May Odin give you protection

unfortunately the vest doesn't quite cut it when you have to deal with suicide bombers.... :P
....not that you'll have to face any.....of course....naturally... :-[ :-[

As white as I am, I would be sticking out like one hell of a big thumb, and plus, the people defending their home land from us ruling it, which we aren't going to anyways, would most likely know most of the people living in their area, and if all of the sudden 40,000 non-saudis started shopping in your market, and drinking from your well, you might grow suspicious.
I'm sorry to see you go, but I do salute what you are doing. I back you all the way. You are doing a very noble thing. Hurry back.
Good luck... And watch where you step! IF you hear a sudden click, don't raise your foot!
Good luck there...
And kill many peoples!!!
MUHAHAHAHAW!!!
Sorry, joke...
Hehe...
good luck and stay safe.
you are doing what so many of us, myself included, cannot do. godspeed.
May Thor give you strenght, brave warrior, as you venture into the region of Jotenheim... :-\ :-\
um....anyone here Norse.... :-\ :-\~Runs off~
Good luck and take care! Like someone else said, come back and make a game about your amazing heroic adventures ^_^
good luck.
but remember:
you're over there for making and keeping peace, not war. ::)

good luck.
but remember:
you're over there for making and keeping peace, not ADVENTURES!
well, just be careful if the shopkeeper knows a swordmaster there. I hear Iraqi swordmasters are a pain.
Anyway, about going in Iraq is a good thing and all, i would NOT agree, but I dont want this to be a politics infected thread.
I just wanted to let you all know that I made it here safe... I don't know how much access I'll have to come on here and chat... but I will when I can :)
As much as I wish no american soldier ever sat their foot in the middle east, I guess you have to clean up your own mess....
Good luck, share your experiences with us afterwards
See you sooner rather than later Alynn, best of luck. Come back ASAP! I look forward to your return.
I feel the love here I really do... then again that might be the malaria pills giving me the runs again...
It's hot, its dusty, and its boring as hell. I wanna work on AGS damnit!!!!
I guess I should just focus on the 600 extra bucks a month i'm making for being deployed....
/me resurects old topics, and is glad he doesn't have to be resurected yet.
Don't get kidnapped, ok?
Keep bringing us proof of lifes if you can buddy.
you get an extra $600 dollars a month?
*runs to Iraq*
If you ever go to Bahrain which is an island thats pretty close to Iraq and has a US Base don't be afraid to look me up.
225 Family seperation pay
250 Hazardous Fire pay
100 Combat pay
-----
575 Total
Plus while deployed I pay no federal taxes... which is about 150-200 a month on top of that... so make it a grand total of about 700 dollars
Oh and I earn that pay buddy.... so far in the one week I've been here there have been 4 rocket attacks and about 2 mortar attacks.... not bad for a week
Just don't do anything stypid, okay? :-\
I have nothing but the utmost respect for our armed forces. You dedicate your service to your country selflessly, so that others may enjoy freedom. Wow. My best wishes are with you, Alynn, and I pray for your safety.
Thanks to all the well wishers :) Sometimes things can be kinda hairy around here....
But anyway the other day I was thinking, how can I turn my experience here into an AGS game, and I thought long and hard, and really, there is nothing long and complex about what I do here. If there is a mortar/rocket attack, there is no long drawn out process to avoid it, you run, you run fast under something hard put on your armor and helmet (if you have it on you can omit this step)... and thats about it, run to the nearest hard thing and hope you don't get hit on the way...
I've gotten good at running...
But then I came up with another idea, I may go with it after I get back (and I finish STR) basically an adventure game where the sole mission is to avoid the Drill Sergents, get out of work without getting caught, and still Graduate Basic Training... That would be GREAT!!!!
Good ideas...
Might even work! :D
That would be a great game. And we'd each get an extra $700 dollars for every month we play it, of course.
Damn you and your get-rich-quick schemes. :D
