I couldn't say I'd recommend anyone see Serenity that hadn't seen Firefly.  It's essentially an extra-long episode as a sort of finale.  I dug both and certainly felt Serenity to be worth my $20 (Tickets and essential snacks) than Corpse Bride or even the last couple of movies I've seen.

It is interesting to hear from people that disliked both as Firefly has been universally enjoyed by everybody I have spoken to.   Maybe it's the lack of decent shows recently that makes me enjoy it but either way, I'm glad I checked it out.

I saw Serenity about a week ago, and only realised a few days ago it was absed on the firefly show which i had heard about but never seen. I don't think we ever got firefly in this country, although we did get serenity, :/ weird huh.

I found serenity fine to watch without watching firefly, although since watching it I did manage to watch the pilot episode of firefly, which clears up an awful lot of confusion and made sense of some parts which otherwise would seem obsolete.
When I was a little kid we had a sand box. It was a quicksand box. I was an only child... eventually.

I like the Firefly series, and I enjoyed Serenity as a spin-off of that. But the fan hyping of the movie has been ridiculous. It's not the greatest sci-fi film ever - it's not the greatest *anything* ever - It's just an enjoyable, but pretty generic sci-fi action flick that for me failed to translate a lot of the appeal of tv series to the big screen. I'd give it a 3/5 at best.
