I presume he means that he spends an hour a day on the forums.

Well, there's still the Kingdom of Loathing community... and, if all else fails, "outside".

5 days off is a lot of time... does this mean we're in for totally new forums?

Holy crap! 5 whole days!! In the internet world thats pretty extreme!! Whats happening to it? And can we know why BEFORE it goes offline rather than after? :)

The server is offline for maintenance, nothing to do with changes to the site or forums.

Don't worry, I will fight AGA for forum dominance and keep the forums going!

Actually, no, because I get a nice moderation vacation!  Yay! o/

Maintenance? That's just a fancy description of copying and replacing a hard drive and blowing the dust off the ventilator with an air compressor. That doesn't take 5 days, sir.

Well I think we all need a few days off from your Sig, Jet, otherwise we'll all go blind...  ;D

I think the 5 days is 1 day to fix the server and 4 days for CJ to get off his lazy bottom and get the forums working again... ;)

So, everyone head over to the AdventureGamers.com forums!

Oh, and does this mean all the websites hosted on americangirlscouts will go down for those days too? Not a problem, but I need to know pretty urgently if that's the case :)

Yes. Everyone was emailed to the address they registered the domain with :P

Okie doke! Well that could be one of about 15, and not one of my priority addresses, thats probably years old anyway! So I didn't get that email, but thanks for letting me know.

Now would be a good time to grab a backup of your stuff, but since everybody is wise and does regular backups it probably wouldn't matter if my backups broke.
Right? Right?!

QuoteWe'll go down for maintenance (general overhaul) next Wednesday, 12th of March.
Do backups for everything, don't forget MySQL or your files in other places than your httpdocs/!
As I'll do a complete format and then a reinstall in which I'll change some major stuff under the hood your domains will be unreachable from 12.03. some time AM until "when it's done", which *should* be more than 3 hours and less than 3 days.

I'll do a complete backup, but i won't and can't guarantee that it'll contain everything you wanted, so have a recent backup ready in case i break something.
It's generally a good idea to have regular backups.

Again:
GET YOUR STUFF OFF THE SERVER OR IT *WILL* BE GONE NEXT WEDNESDAY.

Drop me a line if you need any help for this.

kthxbye, Hajo

Edit:
Please send me your current email either by PM or mail, if you are hosted on the server.

Oh, I forgot to ask! Will email be down too? :)
Title: Re: Server downtime this week.
Post by: dasjoe on Tue 11/03/2008 14:51:45
Everything will be down, the server will be gone for a short time.
I don't know whether I'll manage to import all old passwords (or any at all), so i may have to reset all email-passwords.

ONCE AGAIN: EVERYTHING THAT'S NOT BACKED UP WILL BE DELETED TOMORROW MORNING.
This includes emails, MySQL, ftp, /home/.

The system will be rebuilt from scratch, so please get your data off it now.

Many thanks Andail :) Well Mr Hajo I'm having problems and I reported them to you last night but did not hear back from you. My problem is this: Everybodys website is back up and running except mine, argh!!

FTP gives me this error

Quote
SER m0ds
331 User m0ds OK. Password required
PASS **********
530 Login authentication failed

Emails are asking for my username and password, which are stored, but on pressing enter it also fails, and as I said previously the website itself isn't loading. Has my email password been changed?

Anyway I urgently urgently urgently need to get this resolved because I've got important things coming through in my email; if it sounds more like something caused from my end then any suggestions would help. I did briefly change my www MX record to point to adventure developers but I changed it back last night and would've thought it'd have propogated by now, but perhaps it hasn't. But even then my email and FTP should work surely, because I didn't change those MX records...

Many thanks!

IRC is still offline? Or permanent relocation to uhm, undernet?

(don't know where to post this, since it might be related to downtime, I thought it best to reply here)

Downloading games seems to be disabled. All I get is a blank page. Not even a 404 or a server offline message...

That's because it isn't pointing at the server but at 194.154.164.82, make sure it points at 212.227.132.49 and everything should work.

Your usernames have been changed, i sent you a message on MSN but apparently you didn't get it.
I'll send you a PM instead :)

It hasn't yet. The problem is: you probably changed (www.)screen7.co.uk to point somewhere else, which somehow created an infinite redirect loop. Make sure everything is set to our IP.

Um, I'm on QuakeNet because UnderNet's constant spamming was too annoying. Our own IRC probably will be online today.
