Title: Shabba Dee - The Wrong Face
Post by: fred on Mon 26/03/2007 01:52:17
I just stumbled upon this adventure game made in Flash. Makes absolutely no sense to me so far, but interesting to see how a different dev tool affords different style and interaction. Too many cutscenes, too little interaction imo. Also the first Flash game I saw that has a traditional adventure game gui (look at, get, walk to etc.)

If anybody avoids getting elctrocuted here, please provide the spoilers :)

Nice find!
I wonder if someone will make an AGS version...

Extremely short. The concept is refreshing, and I thought there'd actually be more types of head - THAT would have been interesting.

I agree, it was rather short. The reason for this is it took me much longer than I thought it would originally- about 3 months in total- and near the end I thought, "F**k it, this'll do" and tacked on a quick end.

I do plan to release a sequel when I can look at flash again without puking- althought that could take a while  ;D It took months and months for me to start with TWF after finishing the Beck video (www.mnc99.com). I have some new and decent ideas for it to make it more enjoyable than the last, really all this was was a tester- I wanted to make something similar to Johnny Rockefingers, and I knew flash games were popular. Now I know how hard they are to make I'll give the next one a little more thought.

Alliance, as per your question, I only use and probably in the future will still only use Flash to make my wares. All this game is is cutscenes on different scenes and gotoandplay scripts. It works well, don't you think?  ;)

Trovatore, Yes, this was an idea I planned in the beginning to integrate more into the game. I also planned to make the inventory at the bottom of the screen worth its chips, but alas. The next game will be better. I promise. Don't hurt me.

Thank you, Fred, for spreading my name about. I need all the publicity I can get.

Kind regards,

[EDIT: I recognise you, Alliance ;) Let me know if there's any work you want me to do for your next project.]

!MNc99 Just keep at it and, as you said, give more thought to your next game. ;)

You won't be able to make very solid adventure game interfaces in flash with just gotoandplay() statements, but you could play some AGS games or check out AGS itself to get some inspiration while you're learning more actionscript.

Actually this is cool! So well done :) I still find it extremely random but it's a worthy effort. It's good of you to post up here, too :) Woodz has made an extremely exciting suggestion lately and that is an exclusive AGS competition that allows any engine to be used to create a game over a certain time period. That includes Flash! So you may have a good head-start over most :) Happening soon. The interface structure of your game is good, it'd just be great if he could walk around. I was losing my head (hohoho) about it! But that's probably hard flash stuff for swfxperts :D Keep it up!

Thanks for your kind words. I didn't submit it here actually- being the paranoid so-and-so I am, I googled the words "shabba dee wrong face" and your site was one of the three that appeared. I guess that sort of eliminates the feel of it, but hell, I have years to get that back.

Go to my site. Spend some money. <3
