Title: Should I have a website under my name or not?
Post by: Nikolas on Sun 02/10/2005 19:56:47
The topic tittle says it all actually.

I was thinking that it would be a good "start" to have a website likeÃ,  w w w . nikolasideris.com or something simmilar, so that people interested in what I do can get a more detailed idea about me and my music (and any other stuff I might be doing, as well as some links, to game pages, AGS page etc...).

But I see really a lot of people doing the same thing, and actually I don't see the very very professional composers doing it. These guys (lets say BoulezÃ,  :o, BirthwistleÃ,  :o, Thomas Ades :o etc...) have their companies promoting them. And actually I've never seen a composers' website that is good, or desent, or her/his music are, well... good.

So I do have a fear that this might be a bad "start". Do you guys have any ideas about this? And of course I can imagine that most of you will think it's a good idea, but remind yourselves that it won't be I site for games, or art, it will be about music. And the main purpose that it will be serving is that of a portfolio. Does this move seem a little desperate?

Any ideas? Any help?

Thank you all...

Well, those composers you named there have actually come this far to be promoted by some record company - I suppose you are not (yet) in that position.

So, you should get a website of course if you want to become better known - although I wouldn't take my nickname as adress (or is that actually your name?), because who knows when you want to change it next time...

Actually this is my real name (Nikolas Sideris), so... But of course I will have to think about the name of the site. And yes I'm not this far as the composers I'm mentionig... Otherwise I wouldn't even bother ;D

Another piece of info/advertising/thingy to show - is never too bad, I guess. My life would surely be something less if Jesper Kyd wouldn't had a website and I wouldn't accidentally trip on it.

Unless you have a band, name the page your name.

Surf for some official pages of famous bands/DJ's. Some neat shockwave/flash, when done correctly, would make your page a pleasant both musical and informational experience.

I would suggest you to not use your forum nickname, but your real name. it would be confusing to people, in my opinion, to try and find you and not notice that you dropped the second 's'.

Tons of people do it. If you need the promotion, then it really can't hurt. It's not like people are gonna think "How unprofessional, he has a website in his name".

I'm all for websites!

It can't hurt to have one, no publicity is bad publicity as long as they spell your name right, after all.
