Title: silly ags website question
Post by: J. Baker on Thu 28/07/2011 08:30:58
At the top left of the page in the banner there is some game graphics. I know one of the games is KQ5 but does anyone know what the others are?

Interesting. Sorry to bring up a common topic. Thanks for the link but that's to a different banner. I will do a search. ;)

The one I'm looking at now is Two of a Kind, The Historical League of Bouncy Boxing, [?? I'm not sure on this one, but maybe one of the Ben Jordan games?], and then Maniac Mansion..I think Deluxe? One of the many remakes anyway. The one I'm looking at here is the one with the boy and girl standing outside a gate on the far left, just to be clear.

I forget how many banners there are. I think only two or three though.

Edit: Actually I was just checking, and there's at least five of them. Funny how all these roads, er, I mean banners start to look the same, isn't it?

The problem is, that the banner is random, and the OP mentioned that one of the games was KQ5, but KQ5 was not an AGS game so it must be wrong and it's not easy for us to guess which one it was.

After refreshing several times, I guess it was this one that we're referring to:

The second one from the left is possibly the AGS remake of KQ1 or 2 (i.e. not KQ5).

As I haven't played many games I wouldn't help in telling what the other games are. I just post the image for others to check and tell the answers. :=

I had guessed KQ5 just because of the graphics and not thinking about the remakes.

We definitely need a wikipage for that as often people ask what these games are.

To stop that ever restarting "what are the
names of the games in that banner quest",
here's the complete list with authors & links:

We should really make a few more of these.  They badly need updating.  Although when the new site comes around I guess it won't matter.

(Whatever happened to the new site?)

Stu, I'm sure what you meant to say is that we need more of these, not to replace the ones we have, right? Coz to me replacing these banners would be like replacing the Larry Vales emoticon (i.e., blasphemy!). :=

Yeh, that's what I meant.  The games in those bannes are very old, and we should just keep adding to the collection of random banners every so offten to show some of the more recent games as well as the old ones.

So, does someone know the 3rth game in the 1st banner...?
And can someone confirm that the 1st one in the 1st banner is indeed the game 1213?

I haven't played the game in a while, but I'm pretty damn sure it's from 1213.

What's really funny to me is that the banner I identified is the only one that I could have identified any of the games, and I was somehow able to identify them all! := (The Ben Jordan game was the only one there that I've never played, since I hate the Ben Jordan franchise)

Actually I have no idea what it's about, I just know that Dualnames did that "interview" in the fashion of an AGS game with Ben Jordan, and so if Dual loves it so much, then clearly I must be opposed to it, as I hate everything that Dualnames loves.

Actually, I love everything that Dualnames loves, what am I saying? Why haven't I played Ben Jordan yet? WHY?!?

Edit: 10 AM and I haven't slept. Time for bed methinks. Oh, and although I didn't pinpoint the exact title, I'll still claim it for my ability to identify a franchise which I know nothing about.

I believe that game in the 3rd image is either a game or a demo by Jetxl...but I'm too lazy to do more than a cursory search right now...

Wow Def, had never played that one before but I just checked it for a few minutes and indeed: you're right, it's Catacombic. Thanx, both of you.
All games from the 5 AGS-game-banners are listed now  :)

How about changing the banner's link to http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=44084.msg586928#msg586928 (Arj0n's post with the link list)?

It's currently pointing to the games page but I can't imagine many people getting there that way...?

At the very least, this should become a sticky thread.

When I'm surfing the forums it makes a handier and less cumbersome method to get to the games rather than hunting around the line of text on top for the "Games". So yeah...I do too :P.

Although this does seem a valid thing to have as an AGSWiki page...

I do, it's actually the only way I use to get to the game page.

A sticky thread might be a good idea, especially since there are plans to add more new game banners in the (near?) future.
Besides that, the questions "what games are in the banner" seems to pop up quite regularly.

D'oh, I just though of a solution, it is quite obvious: a tooltip. That way the names of the games would popup when someone hovers their cursor over it. There is some scripting involved because of the randomness, but that can be fixed I'm sure. :D
Title: Re: silly ags website question
Post by: monkey0506 on Tue 02/08/2011 01:34:36
Well, can you write a custom tooltip like that in JavaScript? I hate JavaScript. I wish it would burn and die. :P But If you could write some code to generate a tooltip in JavaScript then you could use the PHP to generate the JavaScript. I imagine it wouldn't be all that difficult.
Title: Re: silly ags website question
Post by: Wyz on Tue 02/08/2011 01:37:59
well actually most browsers will support this:
<img src="..." title="the text you want to show up">
Title: Re: silly ags website question
Post by: monkey0506 on Tue 02/08/2011 01:47:31
Oh, you meant a single one. I thought you meant a different one for each game. The reason I suggested JavaScript is because the banner constitutes a single image, so the normal title attribute wouldn't work that way unless you just listed all of them (which that would actually be far easier :P).
Title: Re: silly ags website question
Post by: arj0n on Tue 02/08/2011 08:19:22
These two will be the longes of the 5 (having the BJ3 title cut off):
<img src="..." title="The Requiem Of Darkness, Indiana Jones and the Crown of Solomon, Stargate Adventure, Nataly Buchannon and the Amulet of Kings.">
<img src="..." title="Two of a Kind, The Historical League of Bouncy Boxing, Ben Jordan Case 3 - The Sorceress of Smailholm, Maniac Mansion Deluxe.">

It will become quite a wide tooltip with only showing the game names without the authors and without the info if the game is a demo for instance.
Or can such a tooltip exist off more lines?

Yes, in fact you can like this:

Yeah, isn't it supposed to be the alt parameter, as in what shows up if the images wasn't loaded or isn't displayed?
That should be supported my most browsers.
Title: Re: silly ags website question
Post by: Wyz on Wed 03/08/2011 01:51:19
nope, it is title (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt_attribute)
and if the &#013; is not working (works for google chrome) try regular line breaks like this:

<img src="..." title="Two of a Kind
The Historical League of Bouncy Boxing
Ben Jordan Case 3 - The Sorceress of Smailholm
Maniac Mansion Deluxe.">

If that still doesn't work: get a different browser ;)
