I don' t get it... Do you want to stay awake? Why? For being veeeery tired one day and sleep proppely that day's night? Mmmmm... I tried, it didn' t work very well with me. My advise is to do sport, something mild and healthy, maybe 1 hour of walk, or 20 minutes of running (Maybe you so something simillar and I am assuming too much, excuse me if so)

Don' t do too much, specially at the beginning. I' ve been virtually devastated after 12 hours of biking (300 kms.) and passed the horrible experience of not being able to sleep, looking at the ceiling, wanting to sleep and not being able to do. A real chinese torture. The adrenaline, I guess.

Eating some hours before going to bed helps, I guess... But well, you are from Canada, I guess that you have diner at a normal hour, not like here in Spain, where we (they, actually, I have diner at 19:00) have dinner at 22 or 22:30. Some people drinks a glass of hot milk, I don' t know, I preffer to go to bed "empty".

That is about adjusting the schedule... about staying awake... phew, for me, what really works is "trying to sleep"! I never sleep when I "want" to do it, only if I empty my mind and forget about my desire to sleep. Maybe some mental activity might help, like painting a background or something... having a small hyperglucemia might help, so, eat sweets ^_^. Hope it helps. Ah! And PM Darth Mandarb, he is an insomniac and he finished JP & Cosmo while one of those periods. If you can' t adjuste your schedule, at least, you can make something nice!

Hey, good idea, what about doing some household chores? I feel kind of zoned out right now, glued to my keyboard with no energy to move, lol. Maybe I should dunk my head in cold water.

I need to get back to a normal sleeping because I just simply can't get up for my kids in the morning and my hubby is getting annoyed with me staying up really late and sleeping in all the time. I feel like a vampire right now.

Insomniatic and dyslectic???

Well... I've been up a long while all my life, mostly skipping night, getting to bed aprroximatley at 3am... but I learned one thing that works for me to get decent sleep.

Work hard all day long! So you are seriously tired in your body, and I really want to go to bed at 20:00 - 22:00, mostly because my new day of work starts at 6am.

btw, i thought it was cool to tell people I was skipping nights, but nothing cool about that. It's cool to tell them you work your arse off, and get some decent sleep! :)

Don' t trust Minimi, he is an Amish... I am sure that building stables and take care of cows is not suitable for a young bi-mother.

Want to stay up?
Battery (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battery_%28drink%29).

Only - and I mean ONLY drink that really works. I've tried all kinds of energy drinks and most of them are simply piss with a drop of lemon acid in it. This one works. I've been up 20 hours, then drank 3 of those and went to work for 8 hours.
Until effect lasts, you're more conscious and concentrated than ever. When it's gone, you're a zombie. During the effect, you have to take a leak very often, it kind of boosts kidney work. I usually consume one before driving school and 1,5 hours drive will be really tough near the end  :-X
It's quite expensive too, with 0,3L can costing more than 2L of coca-cola.

I'm not sure if it's available on the other side of earth, though.

Coffee won't really work, because you have to consume atleast 4 or 5 cups for effect and this gives heavy work for your digestion system, which actually tires you quicker. So carbonized taurine drink will be a bit quicker to work and easier to digest.

Want to sleep?

Take a warm, relaxing bath. It works quite well. Immediately after bath, go to bed. Don't stay on feet for anything, just bed.

Are you sure that your will to sleep or not to is correct?
I know that my awake period lasts 21 hours exact. After which I need 8 hours of sleep. Which makes my day 29, not 24 hours long. It has been like this since childhood, and during school, having day cycle like this really worn me out.

So all is fine if I don't have to wake up every day at specified time.

This makes my sleeping time shift every day a bit and I will never ever have one constant time when I go to bed.
Maybe it's same for you?

I don't have a job per say but I have two kids and that's pretty much the same. It's probably why I'm so weary of staying up today without having any slept. I'm afraid I will collapse throughout the day, begging my husband to look after the girls while I go into a coma. And the whole cycle will start over again.

I would love one of those Battery energy drinks right now, InCreator...

Ugh. I'm going to try and sleep at least 3 hours - this is torture.

I'm placing the alarm clock beside my head and drinking 5 cups of coffee once I wake up.

Thanks for the advice  :)

I'm not 100% sure I understand what you want and what you mean.

If you want a more regular sleep pattern (how old is your young daughter? Still waking up at night) just press youself to sleep. Try milk before sleeping. Try laying to bed for loooooooooong before abandoning the attempt, when in the day, don't sleep, or take a nap, etc. Just start getting back to normal if you can.

Sport, working out, general physical activity is a good way to tire yourself out, but make sure you stop at least an hour before you want to go to bed. If you try to go to sleep straight after you've still got all the adrenaline pumping around and you just won't be able to.

As for staying awake, regular sleep patterns are very useful. Don't sleep too long either, that just makes you more tired when you wake up. But you don't want to listen to me, I'm virtually asleep in all my lectures...

My sleep patterns are sporadic, to say the least.

The best advice I got was to condition the mind that the bedroom is the domain of sleep. Don't use a computer, or work, etc, in your bedroom.

Eventually, you will begin to feel sleepy the moment you go to bed.

Does it work?

I'm yawning just typing this.

Well, I'm finally awake now... I fell asleep at 8:00 in the morning and slept until 3PM - horrible. I'll try and force myself to go to sleep early tonight (take a bath, drink warm milk, etc..). I've been moving a lot so hopefully that will tire me out enough.

Did you guys hear about
David Blaine's  (http://www.fafarazzi.com/gossip/196861/david-blaine-to-attempt-to-break-world-record-for-staying-awake) to attempt staying awake for eleven days straight?

That guy is nuts... I can't even stay up for two whole days straight.  :o

I'm sitting at the computer, it's 1:35am and I've gotta be up in less than 5 hours. It's hell. I just want to fall asleep. It's quite embarrassing to fall asleep in class. Especially when you're in the middle of the front row.

I have a bit of a history of...  I want to say 'insomnia' but it was never diagnosed as such, it was just 'trouble sleeping'.
But recently because I been quite busy balancing college and my new job I have found my sleeping to be fairly easier... I'm still going to bed too late but that's my choice and when I do go to bed I'm dropping off nicely.

I guess the moral is to keep busy then when you are finished for the day your body will be ready to sleep.

The longest I've gone without a single wink is about 74 hours.  When I came back from Japan I'd already stayed up the previous night as it was my last night to spend with the people I had met, then on the day I flew I couldn't sleep at all on the planes and then when I got back home I had to stay awake because everyone wanted to welcome me back, I did the maths (and yes I took the time difference into account) and it was a little over 74 hours...  I was fucked, but when I did eventually go to sleep, I was out for 14 hours... should have been 24 to match the 8 hours a day rule, but still It was the best sleep I ever had.
