Hey, I ran into this link today and I think it shold be placed somewhere important so those making fan games can read about it: http://www.chillingeffects.org/

I guess a fan game would be considered a fan fiction of sorts, more advanced with sound and graphics. Some people have gotten their cease and decist letters from publishers, most recently I remember KQIX people.

Anyway, this is what I don't understand about how the internet functions in terms of the law. Say I live in the UK and I make a monkey island fan game. Then LucasFilm Entertainment sends me a letter with "cease and desist" and whatnot. How can the get to me legally if they're an american company and their stuff is trademarked and protected by american laws? I'm asking this because on most of the sentences in this site, it is assumed that you're an american writing a fan fiction  and it mentions the american constitution rights repeatedly.

Are you sure the trademark doesn't hold in other countries? Usually they have trademarks that span a lot of countries.

Lots of countries have different laws, and once again Wikipedia has more than enough information on this topic.
