Chronic pain sucks (and some Undertale talk, minimum spoilers)

I haven't really played video games of any kind in... I'd say a year at this point. And I certainly haven't played one to completion since like... gosh... Early PS2 era stuff. Heck, aside from Chrono Trigger being my favorite game ever, and a couple loves in other mediums, I haven't really genuinely fangirled over anything. THough I will always have a squee in reserve for anything Dune related.

On my sister's insistence, I bought Undertale earlier int he fall. I played my first run midway and decided I needed a long break from the bullet hell fighting, and to decide if I really wanted to continue the play through I was doing or reset and start over. And it just sat on my computer collecting digital dust.

Well, since Monday it's been raining non stop, and severely aggravating my body's pain. Monday I was bedbound. Tuesday, I managed to sit at the computer between naps. And, through sheer determination, finished that first run. And holy... f*ing... sh*tballs.... I went to bed after completion. Couldn't sleep. For one, had the boss battle theme stuck in my head from one of the bosses near the end that I spent hours figuring out how to beat. For another... I was debating on doing a polar opposite run the next playthrough, and thinking of the implications of that run. This game had me immersed so deeply I was playing it in my head. I was examining the moral implications of my in game actions instead of sleeping.

I have fallen for this game. Hard. And I do recommend anyone who hasn't played it yet, play it. Don't settle for armchairing it on youtube, buy it and play it. And then, study it. Why does this game work so well? What makes it more than just an Earthbound/Mother clone? And how can its good points be used to make a better adventure game? I think this is an indie game worth emulating and expanding upon, and elements can cross over into other gaming genres.

Here is a video I watched a little bit ago that addresses some of the key elements that made the game work so well.
IT HAS SPOILERS! There are images from the game in this video, so do use discretion.
