Title: [somehow paid] anybody interested in a collaboration?
Post by: Nikolas on Tue 31/05/2011 15:47:57
Hiya,

for anyone who doesn't know me I'm Nikolas Sideris and I'm a composer. Besides composing for games I also compose contemporary classical music.

So... I'm working on some tiny works for solo piano for little kids (aged up to 10 I guess, who would know a little bit about where to put their hands). And since I'm about to launch a publishing house for scores I think I'd like to 'decorate' the score with 'drawings'.

In order to get a better idea on what kind of music we're talking about (shrank to a tiny size and AMAZINGLY easier, but still weird sounding (don't have a recording yet)), have a listen and a look at the following (a chance to see a couple of scores as well):
www.nikolas-sideris.com/publication/CUDE.pdf
www.nikolas-sideris.com/publication/CUDE.mp3
and
www.nikolas-sideris.com/publication/perniciosus.pdf
www.nikolas-sideris.com/publication/perniciosus.mp3

So,

My requirements:

1. I'm looking for B&W drawings (perhaps greyscale but I have to check with the people who will print the scores). As you can see in the scores I provided (the pdfs) the scores are B&W only, so this is part of the reason I want to stick to B&W, plus I really like the aesthetics of sketches. (and it's easier to do).  :D
2. I'm looking for quite a few small drawings (small: not a full A4 page, but less than a 1/4 of that for example).
3. I don't have a set plan on what the heck the drawings will be about. And this begs some explanation. I write music without having a definite plan in this instance. So I can't tell you to draw airships, or forests, or other. Perhaps we could come up together with some kind of a story?
4. About payment, it can happen in two different ways:
  a. Pay per image (small price. Not exactly 'out there yet')
  b. Pay % of every sale (sale guaranteed since I will open the publishing house and publish my own stuff, along other composers).
5. You need to have examples of your art, of course.

contact me either via e-mail on mail *AT* nikolas-sideris.com, or PM me here (since I'm logging in daily. bigbluecup is still my homepage... ;)), or post here.

(Probably Poor) examples of what *I think* I'm looking for:

or even: http://www.kramsdesign.com/scrap/Forest_Boy_by_Sughly.jpg (from our own Dane Krams! :D)

EDIT: Perhaps if this is not the best place to look (I know it's not, but I love the AGS community), where else to look, without getting flanked with tons of people? conceptart.org is one... I'd like to stay away from places filled with immature people (deviant, etc).

If you don't mind me saying, those songs are creepy as heck.  :P
I've heard more playful stuff in Penumbra.
I would have got nightmares from playing that when I was ten.  ;D

Cool though, and good luck.  ;)

Well do you know what kind of style you'd like the pictures to be, more realistic, more abstract, people, nature etc.? You kind of gave exmaple of different stuff. Plus it'd be nice if you gave  at least some theme or mood instructions for examples of music you posted, that would give more direction to artists and get you the results that are more specific to what you want to acomplish.

I agree, quite creepy. I was expecting something along the lines of Moonlight sonata. Though a few young Tim Burtons would be nice, the old TB went stale in recent years.  ;D

I really like the creepiness of it! But wait... are they meant for 10 year olds learning the piano? I must've got something wrong there...

I could make one or two illustrations for you- if the art is supposed to correspond with the above track then it's something right up my street (and also- black & white ;) )

EDIT: How about something like this:

Heh...

The tracks are provided are just for example. These are tracks for 20+ year old who play the piano for 22+ years :P! The tracks I'm talking about are much much lighter in nature (although still weird).

Thanks for the interest.
