Title: Something I created, thoughts and ideas.
Post by: Dualnames on Sun 02/12/2012 04:06:06
Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, or anyone's to be more precise, but here is a song I wrote, mostly influenced by Drone and Shoegaze, hope it gets that out. It has been made to give the impression of a Christmas Carol, as it is posted in a competition on some other forums that have been slowly turning into my internet home.

It may sound rather pretentious or appear as so, i hope it doesn't offend if so, it's rather unintentional. The video is consisted of work created for Troica, an old abandon project of mine. Also apologies for my vocals, they barely do their job, if anything.

Nice little song, Dualnames. Very moody. And don't worry about your vocals, you sing better than I do.

Nice song Duals. You should not be afraid to sing louder, there's nothing wrong with the vocals, it reminded me of Elliott Smith sometimes.
Take care man!

Not really, most of the stuff i've recorded are just demo-like stuff where I just sing into a garble of my guitar, poorly recorded with my phone.

Oh Dualnames....  (wrong)

The tune/video/singing were great! My personal opinion would be to reign in the fuzz/distortion that's on the track just a little bit -I like that it gives it that grungy run-down feeling, but it's just enough to be distracting IMO.  I agree that you should not be so self-conscious about your composition/singing skills -I've heard a lot of commercial stuff that is much, much worse.  Keep it up!

The only real question is, when are you going to croon "I'm Dreaming of a Blue Cup Christmas" for us?

Definitely my blue cup :) I'm always looking for good "soundtracks" to my current mood or something that feels like the world around me -- and this is it. Not minding the lo-fi at all. Some of my favorite indie stuff -- one of which you'll even hear in Gray -- is minimalistic: just the voice, one instrument and static. Or take Ludwig Goransson, who makes these cute little shoe-gaze tunes for "Community" - also some of my favorites.

Also, downloaded your tune onto my mp3, hope you don't mind?

I like it.

I think it would sound better with some adjustments on each portion of the song. And maybe a slightly more confident voice.

But I dig that you used your phone. But you are good enough to put more effort into it, if you wanted to.

I won't comment on the recording quality, but the song itself is quite good. It's has a sweet vulnerability to it, and reminded me a bit of My Bloody Valentine and Microphones, which are among my very favourite bands, so well done on that. :) And you can't go wrong with xylophone/glockenspiel for a Christmasy feel. :)
