i have an idea if any of you guys are interested
as well as AGS i've been having a bit play with LASSIE and thought it might be fun if we/i did a monthly contest like MAGS combining entrants for both AGS, LASSIE and any other engine that comes to mind
i loved doing MAGS games and found it a great way to learn AGS
anyone interested?
Greg/BigMac the developer of LASSIE is interested in the idea so if enough people wanna join in we'll get the ball rolling in a few months  ;D

Gregjazz

It would seem a little non-sensical to have this done in the AGS website/forums, though, would it not?

Gilbert

Furthermore we HAVE MAGS, it's pointless to have another similar monthy activity as a distraction.

woodz

shock horror.. but theres people out there that haven't heard of AGS or LASSIE, theres engines i've never seen or tried
i just thught it might be a way to get a bit of competative spirit going between the communities
i'll host the comp away from AGS and offer the upload space for the games

Ubel

In my opinion it would be just okay to host the competition here in AGS forums. You could just start a new thread in the General Discussion (or Adventure Chat, I'm not sure which one would suit this better) and see if people get interested enough to enter. Since unofficial competitions have been held here before I would think it's not a problem if you start this one.

@Gilbot V7000a
all three AGS games i made where for MAGS so i know the benfits these comps bring, its an exellent way to learn any game engine, a reachable target, a set theme to get the ball rolling and guidelines to follow, most newbies set the goals to high and get bored and never get past the first room left to their own devices
i'm a member of here , lassie and 3dgs i see it all the time

@Pablo
i think we'd need a central point for the various communities to converge, a bit like MAGS has a remote voting system, and have a thread on the participating site to enter, i'm not sure how to do the voting so its fair tho! 1000's of members on AGS to 33 on LASSIE lol

anyways i need to know if anyone will be up for the challange and actually would consider giving it a go

Gilbert

Yes, but after all it's AGS forums here. Making it host another similar activity won't be a good idea, especially when it's not much related than MAGS (unless it's a much less frequent activity like the 1r1w, etc.).

I think it'd be more appropiately a thread about the activity in the adventure game gen. forum, but the activity is hosted else-where (preferrably adventure game sites that're engine independent).

@BOYD1981
i didn't want it to look like i was plugging lassie to be honest

@Gilbot V7000a
the owner of lassie is up for the idea, if the AGS gang what to play all the better, we could do it engine dependent, ie one section for AGS one for LASSIE and any others that join in
i'll gladly host the main contest front end and provide space for uploaded games

No, that would be bestiality.

jetxl

I think it's a great idea.
But it should be a special comp, not monthly since most mags entries are not that great. I do like the one month deadline, though.

woodz

i think it would be very interesting  :)

if anyone whats to have a go click here and just leave a nickname and engine choice.. guests can post in this thread so you aren't obliged to join the site

woodz

Greg Macwilliam aka BigMac the creator of the lassie engine  has offer tee-shirts or something as prizes for the lucky winners and we are coming up with a few other options
