From my wife: Morrowind: The Elder Scrolls 3 (Finally, I own it!)
From my parents: A cookbook.
From my wife's parents: A $40 gift certificate for a really nice restaraunt here in town.
From my sister: A basket of home-made cookies, and a $50 dollar Wal-Mart gift card.

Morrowind.. now that is classic.

I got a gift certificate on a movie, some candy and a tie. I need ties, so that was nice. It was rather Christmassy though. Hard to have at a funeral, but what the hey! I also got alot of money. About a thousand SEK which is.. 100 euro? Something like that. The rest of the family got to the sale today, me myself stayed at home and kickstarted the ol' comp to buy dvds and a game. Blissfully, owning an "old" system means very cheap games now when everybody crave 360's and Wii's. I bought three animes and two games for about 50 euros total, packaging and delivery included.

I had a lovely xmas, I got:
From parents

Rellies: (they did Kris Kringle - like secret santa, pickin one name and givin gift to them and they don't know who its from, etc) I got a really nice bathroom bag (I think from one of my aunts), yep very pretty and plush, just what I wanted, now I can throw that horrible ugly old blue junk of a toilet bag that I have had for years, out!! Yay! And oh I got hand lotion and really nice smelling bath salts that my K.K. rellie put in with the toilet bag. Definitely what I have been wanting for ages.

Bro's gf's mother: A funny talking and moving Christmas turkey, not a "cooked" type of turkey, a live-lookin one of course with eyes and beak lol!! I LOVE it!! Just makes me larf so much and maybe I will take a photo of him and post here one day lol.

From my best friend:
Beautiful calendar that means a lot to me with something written by her in it that are real meaning words. Yup shes one of the rarest truest friends I could ever ask for and this calendar is my one and only fav one :).

Disco, it is indeed a British thing! So much so my friend apparently got 14 pairs of socks this year. OVERKILL!! LOL.

Anyway. Like the year I got Grim Fandango for the PC and it didn't f**king work, like the year I got a digital webcam and it didn't f**king work, yet again another computery related gift and it barely f**king works. Okay, it kinda works. But try storing a 1gb video file on it, and moreso try PLAYING a 1gb video file from it and it doesn't work. gash gash gash gash GASH. That's completely fucked my year ahead up.

If anyone knows of any methods or programs that will speed up data transfer onto a USB HD, please please please please please let me know.

Becky

M0ds, I am asuming you have USB 2.0 ports, right?  Is firewire an alternative?

I got a digital camera and some book tokens.  Camera has so far been used to take pictures of cats.  Cat pictures are cute.

Becky, yars - it's USB 2.0, 7200rpm and it says the data transfer is 480mbps. Took 16 minutes to transfer a 0.99gb file from my HD to "it", though :P I have firewire, I assume I'd need a different cable for that though. I'll look into it. Oh well, I can use it for back-ups for now at least.

I could be at my PC for quite a while! :o

You'll have to post your long overdue cat pic in the piccy thread at some point!

Becky

That is weeeeird.  I just tested on my computer and it takes 7 minutes to transfer 10GB from my USB HD to my internal one.  Are there perhaps some driver-related things that aren't behaving correctly?

Oh, and my stomach has also reminded me that I got lots of Jelly Belly for Christmas.  I should never eat all of it as breakfast again.

SSH

My computer has some USB 1.1 ports and some USB2.0. Make sure you're using the right one.

Thanks for enquiring. I've got a Dell Dimension 4500, I've got the Iomega HD plugged into the front USB port, which a website says;

QuoteThe front of the case features the familiar door that covers the USB ports, but these ports now support the faster USB 2.0 standard, which is integrated into the system's Intel 845E chip set. A headphone jack is also on the front of the system, and four more USB 2.0 ports are on the back. Dell also includes a 16X DVD-ROM drive and a 24X/10X/40X CD-RW drive.

So I guess the front ones are usb 2.0 too, though I wouldn't know how to double-check. Becky, I'm transferring from internal HD to portable HD, rather than the other way round. I'd imagine it would be quicker if I was doing it the other way.

Things aren't as bad as they were an hour ago, but I'm stilly annoyed the transfer rate is so slow.

Every year I try to give a crap about people's lists of presents that they got, and every year I fail. Maybe it's just me.

Evil

Yeah, I always try to read what people got, and like CJ, I'm never amused. But I still feel the need to write out what I got.

-New hooded sweatshirt
-Candy
-New Keyboard and mouse
-New cell phone to replace my broken one
-PeeWee's Playhouse DVD Box Sets
-The offical You Have Bad Taste In Music t-shirt

And, today I bought myself a new guitar amp. :D
