Hi, guys :)

First I hope that the thread is for this forum.  ;D
I've some thougths lately...For WW2, espionage, capture, torture, little bit of ol' nazis etc. Something like the cool Indy-FoA. A part of the gameplay will be on the board of a WW2-submarine. I've always liked the one in FoA, but I don't want to redraw the backgrounds. Want to add/remove some things. First here's a part of the submarine (no need for more - those of you, who have played the game, know what I'm talking about :)):

Does anyone by any chance know the name of the submarine (if it's real of course). I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it's damn hard for me to find some decent detailed plans and sections of such submarine. All that Google gives are some crappy nuclear-powered submarines and I don't want that. If anyone can help, I'll be most grateful (if it's a woman, I might give a kiss  :-*  ;D).

Something like that http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3757/cutbalao.jpg but of greater size and with legend telling a dummy like me which compartment is for what.  ::)

Thanks in advance!  :=

Looking at screenshots on the back of the gamebox, I think it could be a Type IID U-boat. It looks a lot like the external views of the submarine in the game.

I couldn't find any pictures of its inside, but there's a very detailed schematic of a similar but somewhat bigger type at this site: http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-570GeneralPlan.htm (click the images for hi-res, translated cross sections).

Edit: This page also has several WWII era U-boat schematics, just scroll down the page.

RB, it's a fictional sub... If you want blueprints of real subs, or even done graphics, I could give you mine...
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

Ah, thanks to both of you. ;D Nacho, yes, it'll be great to give me the blue prints. The graphics I want to do myself. :P

EDIT:  :D GarageGothic, the second link you gave me is awesome.  := But most of the details I can't see good. It's from the images, not from my eyes. ;)

You could also try visiting your local library, and remember to check the children's and young adults section. There's tons of well illustrated books for kids about all kinds of historical and popular scientific stuff (man, the books of my childhood taught me more about the insides of pyramids and how medieval castle's were built than anything I've read later). I'm sure you'd be able to find a clear and well explained cross section of a WWII U-boat in a book on submarines or just naval warfare in general.

It's far from home and I don't have the time right now. After 2 weeks - yes. Thanks for the idea.

Here's a link, it's not the exact type you are looking for but they have detailed blueprints and the are readable...

Here's another one.

:o Many many thanks. That's more than enough! :P Doesn't need to be exactly the same. Besides - I'm going to modify it. ;) Can't draw all these details and don't need to.

Thank you all for the help!

PS: Nacho, if you're offer about the blueprints is still valid, you can post a link here (or PM). Maybe yours are better adjusted to what I want to draw.

Looking in my old files! Save this post for me...

EDIT: Okay... Photobucket resized, ergo frackked the images.... But I wanted to send you was this:

I think my email is public... add me to msn or pm me and I will send you the images in actual size...

Basically: Think as an artist... Unless you want to do an extremelly realist subsim based on sailors clicking in the correct places of the submarine, think what of the complicate structure of a sub is necessary to show for your narrative purposes... Take a look that, for example, I changed the shape of the tower a bit... Maybe I felt into historically unaccuracy? Yes... Who cares? It's nicer.

Use as the base layer the exterior, then in a new, put the interior... They won't match, don' t worry, do the exterior first and adjust the inside.... If you pay attention you will see that in the external structure you can figure the rooms that are inside the preassure hull... if you do a good work matching both images together, you got it...

Also, I post my attempts of doing what I think you want to do now... Take a look and learn of my mistakes... :) I was happy with the style of the last tower, down left, in the second image...  :)

Oh, it looks awesome. Whish you luck (and patience) in finishing it. :P Thanks for the tips (I thought of the thing with 2 layers too ;) It'll be stupid not to make something like that since if you ruin part of the interior and you use only one layer, you'll ruin you exterior too).
Well, no, actually I'm not trying to make it THAT realistic. My father sent be some real general blueprints with measures and stuff. But it's too detailed. I think I'll stick to the simple one.
Here's a plan of U-Boat Type VIID (size: about 8.5MB; dimensions: 8657px X 3534px), if someone decides he wants realism (can give 2-3 like this but of other types). :=

The Gato SS-212 that [ Arj0n ] posted is very good. Your's too. But a little bit too small.

Thank you, guys!
I hope I won't need eternity to draw this. :D
