Ok everyone i just found out on spacequest.net that there is someone that is remaking Space Quest 3?

Here is the link http://forum.spacequest.net/viewtopic.php?f=6=1833

The screenshots look great.

Two [useless] facts about me:

1) Space Quest III is my all-time favorite adventure game (just above Loom and Full Throttle).
2) I am not opposed to fan remakes.

Having said that ... I don't think this looks all that promising.  It looks essentially the same (to me) as the original.  He mentions some plot-extensions, new characters, etc but still it looks like it's just a high res of the same screens.  To me, if you're going to do a re-make, go all out (as was done with the King's Quest remakes).

Granted, I'll still play it if/when it is released :)

If you ask me, and I have experience...this is going to be ridiculously difficult task.  He points out that all that is done, is the writing portion?  I had finished all the writing for that PQ2 remake within a week....because, most of it was already done for me?  And I had a lot of extra scenes written to boot.

I don't think the images look very good at all.  The poll that is listed at the top, indicates that so far, out of a whopping 3 people, 3 people prefer a VGA style to Super SCI.  Whatever SuperSCI is? And I must say I prefer a VGA style, too.  The junk in the scenes appears to be flat to my eye, and takes me completely out of the scene where other objects have been drawn with some sort of care.   I will say that the scenes read, which is nice in an adventure game.  I actually believe the artist probably achieved this simply by grabbing the existing colors and reusing them throughout.

The only reason to do a remake is to improve upon it, but this does not seem to be an improvement thus far.  I highly doubt one person can pull off a remake of this size and make it interesting.  But, good luck, says I.

Urgh. No. I rarely criticse artwork because I just do whatever I do in MSPaint (badly) but... if you're going to do a remake you need to be damned good. Suffice it to say.. this is NOT damned good. It's pretty much just a hi-resolution version of the existing screens, but we have a lot more colours since those days so it looks flat. I have to say I prefer the original EGA.

Not to say this is just plain bad. An ORIGINAL game looking like this I'd have no qualms with. But AGDI have raised the bar the hell up when it comes to VGA remakes - we know they can make something as beautiful as SQ4.

Fair play to this guy, though - he's talking about extra content and though, like Darth, I think SQ3 is an absolute masterpiece and one of the best adventure games (if not games full stop) to ever be made it would be interesting to see a great story built upon. It's a game from a different era, after all - it'd be cool to have more characters to talk with in Monolith Burger, some more things to discover in Pestulon, etc.

While the kid in me agrees with this, I think that often times fans want to add content to their supposed remakes without reason to do so.  It's cool on some level, but I think unless it advances the plot or adds something significant to the story as a whole, then it's just self-indulgence.

I should point out that this is part of the reason I scrapped my PQ2 remake.  The extra scenes I had spent lots of time thinking about and drawing and doing animations for, in the end didn't actually push the story further.  It really just wasted your time as a player.

... just my opinion though....

Why nor re-remake the remake of SQ1? I don't understand out of sequence remakes.

SQ3 is my favorite game of the series, too. It's strange though, because it's really the one with the least coherent plot. The major plot doesn't even reveal itself until the Monolith Burger, which is generally when the game is halfway over already. (Not necessarily, but I always go to Phleebut first, since it comes up first). Even when the plot is revealed, ultimately, it's kind of lame. The first two seem much more epic, as does four and five. Six was a different type of game altogether.

Objectively, SQ4 should be my favorite. It's got the most intriguing plot. It was the first one I played by myself (I used to watch as my dad played the previous games). But three is simply fun.

It looks to me like he scaled up and painted over the originals and then very hastily shaded them, the result being some colored in line art without any real personality.  I may have disliked most Sierra games intensely, but they certainly put a lot of effort into the background art for their later games.

The posted bgs look so sterile, but then I have no intention of playing it, anyway!

Hmmm, the graphics style is not my favorite. It's just scaled-up and fill-in. Needs more shades.

eh, I don't really like the graphics. I mean the restriction to color when we're talking about low-res is okay, but turning the same image to high-res, and not increasing the number of colors, even for nostalgia sake, puts me off. I'd like to see a character sprite though first, before actually making my mind up.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

I actually think it's very interesting graphically. the low color resolution and high pixels resolution give it a vectorial drawing look, very futuristic. I've always been a fan of Another World ;-)
the only thing I don't like is the use of Paint's awful spray tool...
