Unsolicited email is now ILLEGAL in the UK.

It's not going to help much since most of the spam we get is from outside the UK, but at least they're doing SOMETHING.

since when has making something illegal stopped people from doing it anyway?
and that's spam from companies (the actual legitimate stuff) they're on about, not stupid individuals trying to spead viruses and rip off your credit card details.
as long as there is email there will be spam, it needs to be made illegal worldwide.

Boyd is right.

I'm sick of spam.  For every 1 e-mail that I get from a friend or someone I actually WANT to talk to, I get about 300-400 peices of junk mail.  It's frustrating, and spam filters really don't help very much.

Here in the U.S., they just started that "No Call List" for telemarketers.  If your name is on the no call list, then people trying to sell you stuff over the phone can't call and bother you.  If they do, they have to pay a fine of a couple thousand dollars for every phone number.  As much as I was against that (I used to be a telemarketer and I know how hard of a job it really can be at times), I don't see any reason why spam should be any different.

Spam is illeagal already, foo. It was for a long time.

90% of all spam is owned by less than 100 people and they are very rich, so they ar immune to law.

That's news to me, when did that happen?  They must have done that on one of those days that I was too drunk to remember. ;)

i'm so pleased about that, no more junk mails on viagra and penis enlargements! :o (not that i need either)

Why can't chain letters be illegal also? oh.

How do you think they are going to enforce this law? Anyway is it illegal to  send from the UK or to the UK? big difference there cos a company could just send an email to america then the ameriacns can spread it around!

it's illegal to send it from the UK, but nearly all spam mail comes from america anyway, so it's pretty pointless

I was pretty sure that most Spam came from Asia countries, or at least routed through them.

Yup it does. It does not originate from America. The things being advertised may be american, but the emails are sent out from the far east somewhere, also russian areas.

Amusing and yet . . . frighteningly life-like.  Sort of like BOYD.
