Hi, it's me again. I need some help in finding a place where to put stan's coffin shop.
There is option A:
Option B:
OR
Post your own suggestions.(Like for example the forest).
Thanks.
a) Why is it being moved? ¬¬
b) The woodshop was one of the best locations on scabb island, don't dare change it :P /me listens to music
What I really think is that you need to stop making new posts everytime you have a question. If you truly desire this much feedback, use #ags
Seems to me that the most logical place for Stan to have a shop would be right where he was on Booty Island. The demographic for a coffin shop: Older pirates who are less likely to end up just floating face up in the middle of the ocean are most likely to be there. Plus he already likely owns the lease to that position. Woodtick doesn't really seem the best place to open a business that doesn't involve ships. If Stan were reopening his shipyard, I could see a use for it on Scabb, but as is there just doesn't seem to be enough population on Scabb for a lucrative coffin business, so... Yeah.
With the exception of his crypt on Blood Island in CMI (Which he converted simply because it was convenient), he's always seemed to be located somewhere where there are people to buy his products. He's a businessman, y'know? Even Blood island was considered a hot business location, looking to have business pick up in the event that the Volcano started flowing again.
Remember - With business, it's location, location, location. Wally and the carpenter had business because they catered to the locale. Hell, even the bartender wasn't seeing much business (Though largely due to Largo LeGrande). And the Voodoo lady? Well, it's more aesthetics in her case.
So if you're intending to shuffle around business locale, you'll need to justify it, and I second Puddin's opinion in that the carpenter's shop should stay as-is.
I am not going to change the location only, but also the items he sells. I will try to edit the background too, and the reason i am changing the location is simply because he is needed in part of the story and you will only stay on the first island of the game. So, where should i put it?

You need to learn to read non-selectively.
Putting Stan where he is will be thoroughly inappropriate, and in all likelyhood your edit will look out of place. And if he's selling different items, as he does indeed in each game, why does he still have a coffin shop?
I said Coffin Shop to tell people which one it is. It won`t be a coffin shop (althou you CAN actually buy a coffin), it will be a shop sellin all pirate hats, fake parrots, even ayepatches! The coffin will be part of the storyline and is needed to pass the game. You huys still didn`t tell me where to put it.
Oh and what does non-selectively mean, sorry i am not english.
Well, here's a terribly messy edit
(http://www.btinternet.com/~ctswin/monkeystan.png)
used a melee island background, because there is no general path background on scabb
a real one would need to be, MUCH higher quality, probably a hand drawn original background, but you're not up to that, from what i've seen in the crits lounge.
there is already a store in the MI-universe that sells all that stuff. On Booty Island. The store to the left of where you park dock your ship.
ah, scummbuddy, thatd mean tanker would have to play the games, and we know he doesn't have time for that :P (or probably care ¬¬)
What confuses me is why the bridge in option B gets bigger as it gets closer to the island. And that's a pretty big shop compared to the ship.
Why does it even have to be Stan? I get the feeling that you wanted to put a shop in, and decided to make it Stan's for the sake of it.
Or perhaps wanted to include Stan, and decided to make him have a shop there for the heck of it.
At any rate, might I suggest Stan's Coffee Shop?
I'm guessing it's because the inside Stan's coffin shop is already a pre-made background from Monkey Island 2. It means he can put it into the game with very little work.
Man you guys aren't helping at all. If I tell you why it will be there it will spoil the story! This really isn't going well.... (and considering I am working very hard on the game, this is disappointing).
Tanker, what do you want? Put it anywhere YOU want since it's YOUR game. I'm sorry but just place it somewhere and move on. We, the player, will accept it and play the game.
Good luck,
Eric
Hey guys i know this has nothing to do with the topic but i seem to need another scumm ripper. You see the ones i have (scumm revisited and costume viewer) dont seem to be able to read all the stuff from the game. An example of this is the coffin you find floating in the swamp. I was wondering if there is any other good ripper that will allow me to rip these sorts of images. Thanks.

be careful... you are toying with the very essence and universe of why I love adventure games.
Could you be more specific on which one to download?
Oh and dont worry, i wont let you down.
costume ripper under utilities.
and I'm sorry to say, but you are already letting me down, by not knowing the MI 1 and 2 storyline front and back. (meaning knowing every aspect of the game). I'm sorry, but its true.) It's the same reason why MI3, and especailly 4 was not held in the same regaurd. MI3 has established itself as a GREAT game by itself, and mostly within the continuity, but falls apart about there.
Nope, still no luck.
Tanker, lad, take a look at yourself.
You can't do your own game, so you steal from monkey island. But you can't decide on what to steal, so you keep pestering us about it. And then you can't figure out how to steal it, so you keep pestering us about that too.
We're all so proud of what you make with AGS!
Man, stfu! Just because i am having problem with a damn sprite it doesnt mean i cant do a game. If you are so smart, why dont you tell me how to rip it?
Screenshots are the only way, if scumm revisited and cosripper won't do it.
Well i dont doubt in any bodys ability to do sumthing in ags its very user friendly and i am all for fan games but its gota be contending and uplifting to the real thing so get to know who and what your messing with and study the laws of atraction that made the game great and build on that. If you cant then stop what your doing and build a Ã, brand new adventure your own and bring to live a legendary new hero in the realm of ags.
Rethink the whole thing in my opinion and we do appreciate the hard work you putting in ok.
I did think about it, and im pretty sure i want to do it as i love monkey island very much. Ripping with screenshots is going to be very hard scince i want to rip an animation, but thats ok, im up for the challenge.
I love Monkey Island very much. That is why I want to rip it apart to make my own game ;)
Hey Tanker...the progs name is SCUMM Costume Ripper. But you don't really need to have super graphics to make a good game. Use stickmen if you find it difficult to make sprites.
really - why do you want to rip at all?
haven't you just cancelled that warcraft game because of this?
I think it's a shame that you do this, because you already showed us that you CAN draw backgrounds.
A little offtopic: I really don't need another monkey island fan game. None of these games I played were fun in any way. People always seem to think they can copy the mood and the great humour of this game, but they always fail. All you ever get is lame jokes or (and this isn't better) all of the old jokes. All we see is ripped, badly edited backgrounds and sprites. Often the backgrounds don't make sense at all, because they don't work with the new plot.
Tanker, you really should try something smaller. You could do a nice little game, that we all would like to play. Instead you are trying something that will take at least one or two years of work. And even that might not be enough to make a good monkey island game. Of course it isn't fair, but your work would always be compared to the original games.
Personally, I think anyone who can't type out "shut the fuck up" shouldn't be allowed to make a game.
Consider this:
GUYBRUSH:LeChuck! I'm going to churn your putrid bowels like a Pauly Shore movie!
LECHUCK:Hey man, stfu.
Bt
Yes in think you guys are right, i will make a short nice game. But i am not scrapping this project, i will continue it later when i am more experienced.
Tanker, just do what you want, people will play the game and lots of people will like it. Enjoy your time making a game and it will show in the final product.
Isn't that what it's all about people? Can we be supportive for maybe one day? That's all I'm asking, just one day get off his case... You don't like the idea that he's making a Monkey Island fan game? So what, don't play it, every body wins. It's not like a fan game will ruin your playing experience from 10 years ago.
In a few ways Tanker, don't listen to people here, take their criticsm in but don't run your life by it. Some people will join any thread you start specifically just to make fun of you because some people are real jerks. So work on something for a while and then when you're REALLY stuck, come here and ask. But again, just have fun.
I'm also really surprised at your posting andail, he has 2 threads that he stays in and posts in, that's hardly pestering.
Eric
I wasn't making fun of him at all, I was just giving my opinion on fan games.
I think you didn't get what I wanted to say (might be my english ::))
I said that it would be better for him to make some small game first to improve his skills, seeing that he already cancelled many of his projects. And of course, you don't improve your skills by ripping backgrounds ;)
That is all. That monkey island thing was just my off topic opinion. I'd even play that monkey island fan game. In this case I'd really like to be proven wrong and play some really good fandmade MI-game ;D
I have to second Eric on this one. I can't seem to understand why everyone gets so engaged in it. Let Tanker do what he pleases, if you dislike it just don't reply to the post. I think that posting in a thread gives it more attention and thus encourages to keep it going...
... now why did I post again?
BTW, Tanker I think you're handling all this critizism great by not letting it upset you. The "stfu" might have been going over the top, there is rarely any need for harsh language I believe, but I can understand you aswell 'cause for some reason you seem to get peoples shit in every topic you post. Maybe life will be easier if you just make the game, and post about it when you release it?
Actually, I'm not telling Tanker to NOT to make a Monkey Island fan game.
Rather I'm implying that he take care, caution, time and effort on it. Don't make it a slapdash effort because you think Monkey Island is cool. Work on it - a lot. Write out a script, scenarios - test out jokes on friends and such. Post some story ideas. Treat the material with the respect it deserves. But by all means, make a game! God, that's what we're all here for, isn't it?
Bt
I never said you guys didnt want me to make a game, you just make it very hard for me to actually making it. As i said before, im putting the project on hold to get more experience, then maybe i can do some custom bg or something. I already finished about half of the game, but i think a fan game withut custon bg would suck.
Ok, to clarify.
I didn't tell anybody not to do anything, I was implying that somebody needs to be more self-dependant.
Eric, we're practically all here supportive, 95% of our time, and if we knew Tanker had some nice serious project going on, with nice serious questions/requests for us, I'm pretty sure people would help out to a greater extent.
I was bitching about, sure, but maybe it'll give him some motivation to really come up with something serious.
Furthermore, using the gen-gen to ask (with the help of vague sketches) where in a ripped background he should put something else - which is ripped - is bound to generate a certain amount of ridicule.
If he was serious, he should have at least finished the alternative backgrounds, shown them in the critics lounge and taken part in a creative process.
One thing I would recommend everybody in Tanker's situation is to create something original and sincere before going plagiarising this and that. If he wants to learn how to draw nifty backgrounds, then I'm his elfboy. If he wants to ask quasi- serious questions about how to mix elements in various stolen backgrounds, then I'm gonna try to make him change his mind.
I like to think I'm actually doing him a favour, building some character!
To summarise:
I would love to see him make his own game, as long as he comes up with relevant questions, and posts them in the right forum.

No, no one has made it difficult for you to make it.
Is there a reason for posting 2 periods?
".." means Iqu is questioning Tanker's integrity.
I think Tanker started this topic to anounce he's making a MI game. And now he's disapointed that he didn't get the positive reaction he was expecting.
But then again, I also think global warming is a ballony sandwitch served by hippy anarcists. What do I know?
I'll leave that up to you.
Yep thats true. Elfboy check this out if you want to see me make a game (that is actualy made by me):
