Some game download links not working

First of all, I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this kind of question but, since it's not related to the AGS program itself, I thought that the Technical forum was not suitable and I can't find any other that fits the description.

Anyway, I was trying to download the game "6 Day Assassin (by Mr Colossal)" in the Short Games section and both links are dead. What I'm wondering is, is there a way to get those games, or are they gone for good?

Thanks in advance.

For either info and downloads, just contact the authors of the games! They're AGSers, after all...

Want 6-day-assassin? Simply PM to MrColossal and ask where and how could you play the game.

Aside from that, I actually have sometimes urge to make similar threads aswell...
Some (many) authors of "deadlinked" games are still very active at the forums. Why don't you care about your creations enough to keep at least links alive?

where are you trying to download them from? is it from the ags games page? could you paste the links that don't work? to see if they work for me :P

[edit]

you're right, nothing works for 6 days assasin. download, download mirror 1, or visit website.  that might be because mr collosal's website is down or has exceeded his bandwith, or just the site is not there anymore. try to message him and ask him about it.

the same with other links that don't work. the games are not kept on adventuregamestudio.co.uk you see. because of some reason :P

you might find some of them on http://www.the-underdogs.org/  (6 days assasin is not on underdogs)

Even more important is...

Well, imagine yourself an upstart game maker. You hear good words about AGS, and come to page to check out what's going on.

Instead of the magnificent AGS classics, which did lead most of us to AGS and gave imagination lots of new depths, the NewBie/potential-new-superproductive-AGSer just sees a page with missing screenshots and dead links...  :-[

Mentioned "6 Day Assassin" was(and IS) one of these superb examples. In this case, it shows clearly how much atmosphere and excitment can be packed into a game with only 2 rooms and 1.5  ;) characters...

What a loss.
Also, many games are very outdated since AGS has updated all the time. Problem is especially big with very old games, compiled for DOS and so on.  This gives me an idea... a "cleaning day" of some sort. Like declaring a month for it and calling all AGS Veterans to overlook their previous hits, updating/recompiling and correcting links, if needed. This way we could get many old pearls back.

Thats what THIS THREAD is for!

and yes the http://www.sylpher.com/kafka/images/games/6DAwin.zip URL is broken for me too, in fact the whole of the kafka directory seems to be deleted... !

Thank you for all the replies. However, I have a feeling I won't get lucky with this one. I used the Search function on the boards and Mr Colossal, apparently, never posted... so, I'm 99% sure he won't even be here to see any private messages :(

Regarding that last link on Adventure Chat, I'm sorry, but since this seemed more of a site-related issue (broken links) it didn't look suitable to bring it to Adventure Chat.

Try here: http://kafkaskoffee.com/images/games/6DAwin.zip

Derived from some URL guessing and help from dasjoe...

Very unhelpfully, that site's html itself points to the AGS downlaod which point to the old website. Maybe Eric or a moderator can update the games page link...

Ignore my last post. MrColossal (not Mr Colossal) does indeed post in this forum, but the search engine in this forum is... well... nevermind.

However, in the meanwhile, I did a search and found a working link for the game. Here you go:

http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f856.html

Should I post this in the GameSeek thread too? It's not like I'm looking for it anymore and that thread apparently gets pruned every now and then.

Ubel

If you are not looking for the game anymore then I see no reason why you should post in the GameSeek thread.

Also if you want to search for members, you don't use the search function in the top of the page. Then you use the search for users -function in the Members list.

SSH

Ummm... the link you posted points to exactly the same place as the download page one, Redmax, and doesn't work. Try the one in my previous post!

Link's now updated in the games page.

Sylpher

Sylpher.com went through a server switch and as a result some of the people hosted got their own hosting. Some of the loose files that you don't think about get lost in the mix. Any future files missing as a result please PM either myself or the person hosted so we can take care of it.

Well, whenever I find a game that is dead, I do my best to contact the author. Unfortunately, some of them are really hard to find.

I just posted a list of games that are dead in the GameSeek thread (as someone here suggested) yesterday, and updated it today, but so far things are not looking too good.

Oh, well...  :-\

I keep meaning to add a contact e-mail thingy to the games page, so that game authors can leave an e-mail address for people to get in contact with them via. However, a lot of the authors of older games have disappeared and even their last known e-mail address won't work.

I'd like to host all the games on the AGS website to stop dead links, but sadly there's just not enough bandwidth to do so.

I don't know about old games, but somebody could keep a copy from now on and upload upon demand?

I first thought of aÃ,  cd collection or something, but AGS users are not based in one region...

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

Well, I have almost all of the AGS games in my private collection. Only the really really old (like Lassie Quest) I don't have. I just don't really check the gameseek thread much.

Guess I might as well say it here - anyone interested in a game with a broken download link, PM me. I probably have it, and if you don't I might not take notice.

On a side note, I also have most of the resources, but those are in my site, nothing new there.
