I couldn't see any threads with a similar title, but I read this;

Exciting sequel that improves dramatically on the effects of the first, but also has an emotional depth that is surprising in a blockbuster this big.

And then wondered - it's a Marvel film, isn't it? So it's based on the Marvel Comic - though I haven't read it myself, don't comics usually focus on emotional depths?

I haven't seen the movie yet but I think I'll be impressed. I also think these kind of films, and Starship Troopers etc are a slightly different breed of genre. But I don't know what. "Comics" makes them sound too Laurel & Hardy.

Anyway yeah, seeing it tomorrow hopefully.

And d'you know why?

COS I, ROBOT ISN'T OUT YET.

:)

It has more emotional stuff than the first i guess.. i loved it btw :D

I, Robot is out in the US.  My bro saw it last night.  Haha!

As for Spider-Man 2, well, I was impressed alright.  Its been a week or two since I saw it, but I can't decide if its better than the first or not. Its different, in any case.   And not a drop more emotional than the original comics, I might add.

To say that comics usually do anything (save for tell stories with the aid of pictures), probably wouldn't be a good idea, especially these days, where there may just be a wider variety than ever out there.

I do agree with the reviewer from the first post, though: I daresay it's pretty rare that the bigtime blockbuster movies that are shoved down our throats have any sort of depth to them at all. Far too often they're all but popcorn fodder. But they kepp making in the multi-millions, so who can blame the big studios for further lining their pockets, I guess...  :-[

Anyway, I thought the movie was fantastic and liked it better than the first, which is saying an awful lot, since I though the first was pretty awsome in itself.

While not exactly faithful to the comics (its more akin to one of the cartoon shows that was being done in the '90s, I'd say), I dare say that it keeps the spirit of the original works, with Parker dealing with the everyday troubles and moral dilemmas of being a super hero ON TOP of being a real person. "With great power..." and all that jazz.

And save for the fact that I didn't like Doc Oc not wearing a shirt at some parts (I just didn't feel that it fit his character), I'm hard-pressed to find anything I didn't like about the movie.

Loved it.

LGM

I loved Spiderman 2 aswell.. It was a bit slow at points, and MJ and Peter's love relationship goes off and on way too much.

But.. I wanna know.. Is the landlord's daughter of any importance? Maybe she's the one Spiderman kill's accidentally  in the comics that'll happen in the 3rd movie? I dunno.. Just a thought.

Las Naranjas

The main song on the soundtrack is Dashboard. That's emotional depth...

i liked it!i won't say the ending to spoil it but i really liked it, it cleared up some things that were begining to annoy me

I just wanted to say..

I mean see it. Hell, even enjoy it! Just please don't look forward to it.. that just makes me hurt.

I really do not mean to pull this off topic but it seems like here is better then anywhere. I agree with most of what 'Bob' says as most of it is right on the money but just to add..

If the movie wasn't so wrapped around Asimov I wouldn't have such a big deal with it. I mean it would just be another summer sci-fi with ample computerness and action and little else. However, it is made out to be the godchild of Asimov and it just flat out isn't. That is my beef.. I walk away now.

Timosity

All I can say is the 1st Spiderman movie was very thin, what I mean, is that it was like there where 3 people in the movie with a few extras, and not much happened, a few effects that were way out of physical possibility in reality, it was like the laws of physics had changed. but hey it's a movie, and one that's just full of hype

stepping back from the hype it's all pretty sad that it made so much money, that we'll have to go through all the sequels.

I've seen shorts to the new one but I don't think I'll be rushing out to see it, maybe when it's on free to air tv, or happen to witness it on someones dvd, or I just happen to be in a silly mood.

but that's just my opinion, I don't mind action or comics coming to life, but I really think they put too much money into special effects and shitty actors, with an already famous character and expected that everyone would be fooled.

but I guess I can't really judge the 2nd one as I haven't seen it, but nothing is really drawing me to it.

sorry to crap on, I just fealt this movie needed some negative energy to even it out.

I enjoyed the second one immensely. I thought it'd be a typical summer popcorn fodder movie, but it turned out to be way more enjoyable. I usually shun the blown-out blockbusters, but I'd say this movie rises above the normal comicbook standard and becomes a real movie.

I'm not up for seeing I, Robot for I, Robot. I'm up for seeing it under the influence of something so that I see it 3D or something. :P

Spiderman II was good! None of it bothered me, it just kept going and going. Lots of jumps and funny moments too. Dr Oc didn't really do it for me though. Even though he is being "controlled" by the arms, I still prefer William Dafoe (who is evil! bar Speed II) than erm... Whoever he is.

LGM

Yes, I heart William Dafoe.. He is awesome in Boondock Saints. :) I'm glad you liked it.

Esseb

Dr. Oc was good. Too bad he only was evil in the movie for 5 minutes total or so.

It's been a cool movie, maybe the top of this new generation of ultra-extra-mega digital effects (SW I and II, Van Helsing, The extraordinary men league, The Hulk, Daredevil) movies.

Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

That's because of Sam Raimi, who got his start in moviemaking because he loved it, not because he wanted to make good movies. Just look at the first two Evil Dead movies. He made those look amazing with hardly any budget, but he's not tempted to skimp out on plot when he's given a budget (Ex: Army of Darkness).

I haven't watched Spiderman II yet, but over at elYsiun they say Blender was used in the pre-visualization and for modelling. Some guy from a contracted CG firm was posting in the Blender Gen forum about it. I think that makes this the first major film to use Blender for its CG effects. Probably not the first to use OS CG software, but the first to openly use Blender.

But hey, I'll bet none of you care about that, so I'll actually watch the movie and then post something next time.   :-X
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

Privateer Puddin'

I read that a few weeks ago on the gamedev forums, i was surprised you hadn't mentioned it already. :)

I thought Spidey 2 was much better than the first one. However, I have one message for Sam Raimi:

Spoiler

Please get the son to get a new green goblin mask made at the beginning of Spidey 3. The one if Spidey 1 and in Spidey 2 just looks SILLY. Not scary, not sinister, not anything except silly silly. That stupid mask spoiled the whole first movie for me.
