Steve Irwin is no more

From my point of view ... the lable of "hero" is a matter of perspective.

I mean ... to the animal/wildlife conservationists of the world, maybe Steve Irwin was a hero to them?

I don't know.

I think a firefighter who runs into a burning building is doing something heroic ... but does that automatically make him a hero? I mean ... isn't that what firefighters are supposed to do?  Now John Q Public who is a tax accountant walking down the street and sees a burning building and runs in and saves somebody's life ... now (to me) THAT is a hero.

Perhaps this is just my opinion.

we shouldn't lable everyone who diesÃ,  and is famous, a hero.

we aren't, his daughter did.

also:

"Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin was remembered Wednesday by his eight-year-old daughter Bindi as "my hero" and a man working to change the world and help save endangered wildlife.

and you can watch the 18 second clip here. Unless you ment someone else.

Does the fact that it's a job make them any less heroes?  I mean, they still make the conscious choice to work a job they know could end in their death at any time in order to fight fires and save lives.  If anything, that makes them even more worthy of being called heroes, just like the men and women who died at the WTC trying to get people out.

His kid said that she thought her dad was her hero.  Obviously you dislike Steve Irwin, fair enough, whatever, but let his own daughter say how she feels about her late father.

I'm glad he's dead. Steve has harmed more animals than I can count. Also, his brother insulted my friend.  >:(

Sam.

So he deserves to DIE?

Insensitive and ignorant.
Bye bye thankyou I love you.

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

I'm curious - how did his BROTHER insult your friend bad enough for you to think HE deserved to die?

Better make sure you behave, skyfire, insulting the wrong person here can make the whole forum wish for you to die.

Ridiculous. I haven't followed much of this thread, and I didn't really know Steve Irwin apart from a single Jay Leno show, but no one deserves to die. No, not even people like Hitler. People like THAT deserve to be punished severely, in some cases to make them WISH they're dead. No one deserves to die.

Steve Irwin was a human being. As we've seen from this very thread, some people liked him, others less so. Some have expressed heartfelt condolences, and some have contested those condolences. Some have been slightly insulting, at times. But at no time in this thread had I read that anyone was GLAD that this man was dead. And it's my turn to be offended.

But then, I suppose you have the right to decide who should live and who should die, from the awsomeness of your fifteen years of living in this earth. Or at least to actively support someone's death. Really, once you start being GLAD that people die, what's to stop you from supporting it somehow?

Come back to the discussion after you've learned more about life, and the tragedy of its loss... and when you're ready to apply that to everyone else.

Also, if you are GLAD someone died because his BROTHER insulted your FRIEND, and because you felt he's harmed animals (something you have a right to express, allright, but in a funeral thread?! Would you show up at the guy's funeral and say these things? Sadly, I think you might), in total disregard of the fact that a human life, one that had touched and inspired many other lives, has been lost... you need help.

To end this rant - I might have exagerated some points, I guess, but I don't care. I have zero respect, zero sympathy, and zero tact for people who say these idiocies about the recent dead.

How could you say that? You deserve to die for that remark.

Sam.

What? It's not like my brother insulted you.

...I love the way Pumaman can come in with his one-liners, two-liners at most, and say exactly the right thing in just exactly the right way. :)

???. I really wish there was a way to show people on the net that you're being sarcastic without saying so. Anyone who saw Steve on Discovery will know that he treated his animals better than most people. I loved watching him when I was little. I guess I'lll use sarcasm tags from now on.

[sarcasm] I hope you die, Skyfire1. [/Sarcasm]

Oh ha ha that's put what I just said in a TOTALLY different light!  :P

Also, how is saying you're glad someone is dead a sarcastic thing, ever?

Now you're being sarcastic about being sarcastic.

deadsuperhero

It's almost like you think you're funny, skyfire.
All insults aside, I always liked Steve Irwin. Yes, it's a bummer, but he's probably up in heaven right now wrestling crocodiles (if you believe in an afterlife)
Steve was a cool guy, and it's a bummer that he had to go. Point is, everybody dies. The tragedy though, is that it hurts those who are left behind (i.e. his family)
I can only imagine what his family's going through right now.

It was really sad to see his daughter giving a speech about her daddy. I'm 33 years old and would cry rivers if my dad were to pass away.

skyfire, how would you feel if it were your dad who died this way. Would you be glad then?  I cannot understand how you could feel that glad that he died. Even if you meant to be sarcastic, it wasn't funny. Respect for you has gone down a little.

deadsuperhero

I think his daughter was very strong to be able to talk about her father so soon afer the incident.

If my dad were to die, I'd cry and lock myself in a small room. Seriously.  I don't know what I'd do without my dad.
And I'm o moderator, but can we tone down the insults at each other just a tad? This is about Steve Irwin, not what's funny and what's not.

Come on.

Obviously his daughter didn't write that speech. It's sad that she's lost her dad, without a doubt, but her speech was so obviously prepared as part of the whole big machine of commercialism.

MrColossal

Cite your source please. How is this obvious? Do you know the family? Do you know the girl is not capable of writing a tribute to her father, probably with mother's help?
