Title: Suitable 3D engine?
Post by: Sola on Tue 02/05/2006 06:48:35
Hi everyone, do any of you know of a good but free 3d game engine anywhere?
I'd really appreciate this.
Thanx.

People are so lazy these days, they get other people to do their Google searches for them.

Well Geoffkhan, just for the record...I had searched google like 7,000 times and still haven't found anything suitable.
Thanx none the less.

Maybe next time you'll take the time to inform us of what it is exactly that you are looking for. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of 3d engines out there. And the only qualifications you gave us were "free" and "good".

What'd you expect?

Here's some random sites that might help you:

http://www.ambrosine.com/resource.html
http://cg.cs.tu-berlin.de/~ki/engines.html
http://www.devmaster.net/engines/
http://www.cyberloonies.com/game-engines.html
http://fraktali.849pm.com/graphengines.html
http://thegamecreators.com/

Some of these cost money, but I doubt you'll find anything good for free anyway.

If you don't know how to program and produce 3d art then there are no good paid 3d engines, and there are no good free 3d engines. Please don't make thread titles in caps by the way.

And whatever you do, DON'T get that "3D game maker" program. Even if you see it real cheap on the shelf somewhere. RESIST. It is a big pile of crap. *shudder*

Some people still don't even know what google is. I shed a tear for them.

Maybe (s)he wanted the opinion of a person and not some cold, mechanic search engine.

3D is for the weak.

(Or for those who really can code it all themselves.)

I'm using Dark Basic Pro for a university project right now and I think it's a really great tool if you take a little time to learn it. I don't have any coding experience except for AGS and in about a month or so I have managed to make my own 3.-person shooter thing (GTA style).
Plus there's a great forum with lots of code snippets you can steal...
