Hi guys and girls!
Why doesn't anyone comes around releasing harsh, polemic thoughts on the Vatican, the Hammas or B. Obama?
Is it because it's a beautiful day outside and we just don't care?
Have the polemic issues ended and we didn't even see it?
Was it the sun eclipse?
Are we more prone to think about it and care when the temperature is lower?
Do we only think about sex when it's hot?

Well, tell me what you think!

I think you should enjoy your summer buddy!  ;) Be happy with the peace you are getting now.  :)

About the Vatican: I'm really looking forward to the Penn&Teller: Bullshit episode about it that's gonna air in a few weeks.
My thoughts till then: it's the center of a greedy organization of emotionally abusive control freaks who relish in pursuing stone age myths which directly oppose common sense and scientific knowledge.
In case anyone missed it, the 7th season started at June 25th and has four episodes out already, and they were all great.

About B., I still think he's gonna make a real change, maybe not in the near east, but in his own country (Kenya. No, just kidding).

Buckethead: C'mon, you can do better than that!
KhrisMUC: That's more like it! Now you really pissed somebody we all know who he is!

I...

I think that some religions are sometimes a little bit silly about some of the things they do.

I also think that some politicians aren't very good and that other people would be better at running some countries.

...there, I said it.

I think the Hamas should relocate their operational area to tha Vatikan....  ;)

As for Obama, if he succeeds in giving every US citizen health care... then he already would have done more than I could've imagined..   ..and I would stop calling the United States a third world country, I promise..

Fuck you Christians for pretending to be loving and caring while being hypocrites, fuck you atheists for pretending to be intellectuals when all you are is a bunch of stupid super-monkeys, and fuck you everyone else because your religion sucks and you know it.

I hope I didn't leave anyone out.

Hello! If you want something serious to debate, have a series of moral dilemmas! I read them in The God Delusion a year or so back and am just paraphrasing them here. I was thinking about them today for some reason, and thought it'd be interesting to hear you peoples responses to them. Please answer each one before reading the next.

Situation 1. You are standing by the side of a railway line, and a train is hurtling along it. Ahead of the train on the track stand five people, too far away to hear you yell. You are, however, standing next to a level, and pulling that would send the train onto another track, saving the five bystanders! Sadly, on this other track is another guy, milling round, picking flowers, oblivious.  Would it be a morally right decision to pull the lever and condemn this man to death to save the other five?

Remember, type down your answer for that one before reading the next.

Situation 2. Same deal, a train is heading towards a party of five on a track. It's slowing down some, but is still going fast enough to definitely kill them. This time though, you're standing on a bridge, next to a guy admiring the view, thinking happy thoughts about the sunset. If you pushed this guy over the bridge into the path of the train, it would be slowed enough to bring it to a halt before it hit the other five. Same outcome, one life lost, five saved, because of an action you took. Would pushing the man be morally right or wrong? And why is it different from pulling the lever?

There’s a third stage to this, but I'll wait to see if anyone’s interested before posting.

Nope, no matter the weather, 24/7.  :)

Hi Nacho, I knew you would be interested in this ;),
anyway I wouldn't say boring but I think General Discussion this days means talking about gadgets, cpu's and the sort, it's not a bad thing, but I just miss the good old angry discussions about whatever is going on in the world.
Score:
Paper Carnival gave the most enthusiastic reply ever on this subjects! Imagine if this was a serious thread!
Akatosh brought some official FBI info into this, so anyone try to beat that!
Ryan, many believers, when their apologetic arsenal loses steam and they begin to sense the futility of arguing in defence of their commitment to the arbitrary, will often retort that the non-believer makes himself to be God. Got that? I didn't!
Creed Malay, you're being too serious about this and my answer is: there's always a consequence of one's actions and the only duty we are meant to accomplish is do the best we can.
Domino, cut down on that V, man!

Man you're boring

How about start a thread that you feel is worth while instead of complaining all the time?

Hello! If you want something serious to debate, have a series of moral dilemmas!

Well considering your lack of detail on the situations, here were my answers:

1: There's a greater chance the 5 people will notice the train long before the single man picking flowers does.  I would keep the train in the direction it's heading.  What if the 5 people knew the train was heading their direction and were planning on jumping out of the way soon?  What if the single man was deaf, or 'knew' the train wasn't heading on his track (unless of course I pulled the lever).

2: Murdering one defenseless person for 5 people who were stupid as it was to be standing on the tracks isn't my style.

Answer 2 obviously goes for both.  Since the man picking flowers may have actually known the train doesn't take his track, unless some fool thought he was saving the day by pulling the lever.

I'm bored to talk about boring topics yes, I totally agree with that. What difference does it make. Easen up all of you. It's summer. Summers is about girls and beaches, and wearing sunglasses, and making a game.. :D

Ryan - It's hypothetical, dear. But to clarify further - the five other guys are also all whimsically picking flowers, or daydreaming about a kitten standing on the head of a lamb. They are all oblivious to all danger.  THe question really is, is sacrifycing one life for five in the first situation any more acceptable than in the second, and if not, why?

It's not my place to decide who lives or dies.  I'd probably think about it for the rest of my life.  So, my answer would still be, no.  I wouldn't altar the events in anyway.  I would probably still try to wave my arms and shout out to the 5 guys in either scenario.

The people are blind and deaf. And you have no arms, and must either pull the lever with your teeth or headbutt the dude from the bridge.
