Title: SWIV anyone?
Post by: Kinoko on Thu 27/07/2006 01:21:46
Hope I'm not breaking the rules with this one, but I was wondering if anyone could help me find a download of a game called SWIV. Not SWIV 3D or Super SWIV, but good old Amiga-version original SWIV. Was thinking about it yesterday but all I can find online are the remakes and whatnot.

EDIT: Well, *ahem* Since that question's been answered, let me expand the thread a bit. What's your favourite shooter? This is why SWIV was on my mind, was discussing shooter's a bit yesterday and SWIV sticks in my mind as being my personal favourite. Hard to remember why exactly, it was just plain fun. Simple but with enough to keep you interested all the way to the final boss.

I'd say my favourite shooters are the ones I played as a minnow...

Galaxian.
Scramble.
Spy Hunter.
Silkworm (the precurser to SWIV).

...but more for nostalgic reasons than anything else.

Gameplay wise? I'd say Cybernator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cybernator) on the SNES would be one of my favourites.

All the shooters that me and my brother made with the shoot 'em up construction kit on the C64.

I loved midnight resisitance.

As for today's shooters, metal slug series.

Moon Cresta (arcade) - ahh, memories of playing this at the swimming baths off the Albert Bridge Road.
Arcadia (Vic20) - the first game I bought - £5.95 on tape.
Zalaga (BBC) - great Galaga clone.
Xenon (Atari ST) - took me four years to finish, but I did it!
Bellum (PC) - not really a favourite, but I can't find it anywhere :(

I didn't finish it myself, but I sat and watched while friends of mine finished it several times (it only took about an hour), once without autofire! Impressive game...

I don't think I ever got past the middle of the 2nd level on Xenon 2, on the Atari ST.
Music was groovy, tho. ;D

The Bitmaps Brothers Atari ST stuff was good. Cadaver, Speedball 2, Xenon 2,etc, they all had that trademark "chrome" effect the Bitmaps did with their graphics.

Seems like such a long time ago now...

Yeah, in retrospect, totally japanese, but back when I was 9 in the arcades, extremely endearing.
