didnt have a math teacher for a year.

Got an A with like, 2 months of teaching.

Just study by yourself basicly

Darth Mandarb

I say just drop out of school.

It's pointless anyway.

I stopped going after 8th grade ... didn't see the point.

And look at me now!!!

Ozwalled

Yeah, if you're worried and you have all of this spare time, start doing work on your own. You probably have the textbooks, so use 'em as well as you can.

That aside, if there's a university nearby, stop by and sit in on some classes (first year ones, especially). A lot of them can be jam-packed with students, so no one's real likely to recognize that you don't belong there provided that you just sit quietly and take notes.

Vel

As everybody else said, I say study on your own - I myself find this a lot more effective a method than staying in classes while everybody else is talking.

Neutron

I'm not suggesting anyone drop out of school, but I will say this,....school was a hell of boredom for me, including college.  When i dropped out of college and began studying on my own time, at my own pace,....I have learned SO much more than I would have in a like time period at an educational facility.  It doesn't even compare.  Some people were not meant to be 'put through the paces'.

Ghormak

I for one learn much more effectively if there's a wise old man telling me about the stuff than if I read it in a book.

My first twelve years in school, I didn't do any homework and barely studied for the tests. And I did just fine, because I learned by listening.

Am I the only one?

Pumaman

Yeah, I'm with Ghormak. I find it incredibly difficult to learn by just reading books because my mind is always wandering off elsewhere, and I just can't concentrate.

Of course, the same applies to bad teachers, but if you get a good teacher I find it much easier to learn than from a book.

Mr Flibble

Yeah, a bad teacher is completely ruining any chance I had at passing Biology this year.
"This is a hooman female. They make eggs in der ovaries but you don't need to know that this year."

I agree with Ghormak as well, I just don't have the concentration to sit and learn it by myself.

Don't they have subsitute teachers? Or are they on strike too?
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Ozwalled

Though I still reccomend doing some studying on your own and possibly sneaking in on some university classes, you may want to consider asking your parents to hire a tutor.

That last post madm me think, though -- Since it's not likely that substitue teachers are on strike too, they'll probably be desperate for money, so if you can get ahold of a good one, they might just take you on as a student.

Worth considering.

Moox

Hey Flibble, im in a bio class with a bad teacher now aswell, we just went over the chapter on miosis, worst week of my life

earlwood

Don't they have Scabs to replace striking teachers? And wouldn't they postpone the test, if every teacher in the COUNTRY went on strike?

Phemar

Well all our teachers here are on strike as well.

I looked at our supposed curriculim on the 'net, got a few textbooks and studied a bit.

It's quite easy actually.

Rui 'Trovatore' Pires

There's an iron-clad rule here - if it's fun, you get to learn. If it's not, soon forgot. (Nifty rhyme!) You wouldn't believe what I retained about Voodoo, werewolf lore and the history of Rennes-le-Chateau from playing Gabe Knight. Or the things that stuck after I read a book or see a film.

Study for yourself, by all means, but to find the fun in it. Working at your one pace, set yourself goals and challenges. Like an adventure game. But this time, no walkthroughs!

For something to be FUN is basically depending on you. I find Physics and math to be intensely interesting due to the logic in all of it, and how it all works, but then I find Accounting and Business incredibly boring. My business and Accounting friends feel exactly the opposite.
I can understand how you feel blackman, as I missed almost a month of Physics and had to make up on my own, as my Physics teacher is utter crap. He starts spouting punjabi poetry in class and asks you about yesterdays soap operas instead of teaching. He has almost got me to hate physics. I had to go through 3 chapters on my own, and I understood how boring it can get. I have no self-control, so I get bored and distracted very easily.
EDIT: Completely off topic, but the thread title reminded me of on of docs in one of the word processors in my old school lab. All that was in it was "DEAD MEAT ARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!". I believe it is still there....ahhhh...memories...

well i must say, all of my teachers suck, really, they are so nice on the children
Math, the teacher says, do 3 pages for homework, then if they don't do it, he shorten it by half, and if they don't do it, he still shortens it by half and so on.
Language, i don't know how that was, because i normally slept in class ::)
well everything sucked and all of my class is spoiled, there are 6 boys and 6 girls, the boys are(warning, may contain some insult):

i spent 1 and half year in brazil and there the teachers were strong and i mean STRONG, they were always jumping from one to another, and it was really hard but fun to be in it
now about math, i generally rules in math, i knew things that i was suposed to learn in 3 grade in highscool and all of my class is making fun of me because of it, but thats because they SUCK in class.
the teachers are always teaching something we learned 3 - 4 years ago
and my class has to use calculator to find the answer to this:
11*11, they use calculator for EVERYTHING
i could go on and about it, also the test are SO easy that(i studied nothing befor the test but still, got an A)
if i am suposed to get to highscool, i need to take that test, else i will have to go to another kind of school

PS, it doesn't matter what you get from a test, B C or even F, you always go to the next grade

Oh it gets worse my friend. He's a bit of a peadophile, he sits and watches the girls whilst stroking himself. We've reported him many times, but I go to a Catholic School (not that I'm a Catholic), so they aren't exactly against  that sort of thing. No insult intended to Catholics, but you know what I mean.

One time he undid his top button and I was actually physically sick. (Although I caught it in my mouth) AND he has a habit of leeannning across people's desks (especially girls) for no apparent reason.

Last year anyone else from Northern Ireland (maybe all of the UK, Idon't know) will remember a substitute teacher strike. This is the BEST thing that can happen to you. We got to sit in the hall most of the day. And the tables and chairs in the hall meant we didn't have to do gymnastics in PE.

Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

Well, it looks like I am looking at things from completely different perspective, since I am a teacher. And there are few things that I'd like to point: No one can rate you knowledge if he (or she) didn't each you anything. Your gonverment will surely find the best sollution of this problem. Another thing: all the things you said about teachers I could tell about my students. There is good and bad in everything. (As Loenard Cohen once said: "There is crack in everything, that's how the light gets in").
Everything will be OK!

Albert Cuandero

Blackman stay cool on that one. I finished school fine and went to uni without showing up there most of the time for last three years of it. [dream] except in Geography - the teacher was such a babe, and she was always wearing semi-transparent shirts and minis [/dream] um, yeah.

Just don't put yourself down, but try and find a way to keep up with the learning!

An old jewish saying goes: "God would not give you the need to learn something, without sending you a teacher"

Besides in twenty years, when you are a kick-ass game designer. you can say in an interview: "I only started making games back in 2004, because I spent all my days in the AGS Forum, because of a teacher strike..." ;D

I've never really trusted teachers, and I don't think they trust me.
In my English Literature class, we are reading "To Kill A Mockingbird"  She makes us take notes on each chapter.  Since I have bad handwriting, I type everything out.  So, naturally, I type out the notes.
So I come to school today, and the following ensues:

Mild-mannered RTF: Here are my notes!  I typed them out for spupendous-o-matuc readibility!

Somewhat Evil Teacher: I'm sorry, but you may not type out your notes

Mild-mannered RTF: Why ever not?

Somewhat Evil Teacher: Because you might have gone on the internet to find a summary of the chapters and then cpoied and pasted on the computer.

(later)

Somewhat Evil Techer: Well, class, very good notes in general today!

Mild-mannered RTF: YeahyouknowwhybecasueIgotmineofftheinternet
