If other people want to participate, send in a PM with what you'd like to do and what you can do.
We need a drummer. He/she must have an acoustic set and must be capable to record them. Ability should be somewhere in the "beginner-moderate" region. For details, contact one of the band members or post here.

Haha, nice idea, Dan. If my recording situation wasn't crap, I'd like to drum, but instead, I might could help with mixing. I have Apple Logic and moderate skills with using it, but I'm sure there's people with Pro Tools who are infinitely more talented than I.
Playing live shows will present quite a challenge :P

Not necessarily. I've heard this crazy rumor that apparently AGSers can connect to an AGS game via the intertubes. All you guys need are some sprites and and an audio feed.
Ooh! You can be the warm up act before the AGS awards! (Or you can play at the after party!)
I can play bass to some extent, so count me in if you don't get offers from anybody... you know... actually good.
I tried to do this on a forum I used to frequent about three years ago, but the people there all signed up under the impression that I wasn't being serious, so I ended up doing everything myself. :-\
Do you have Skype, Ultra Magnus? :)

No worries, I've added you to the first post, welcome to the band! :)
After we've assembled everyone, we'll see all the schedules and maybe we'll set our first band meeting. It'll take a few days I expect, so you'll have time to set up a mic.

You have plenty of time to get a track laid down and shipped (or "dropped" as you crazy kids are saying these days) to Dualnames in time for him to bundle it with the game.
I demand a warm up act! (Or an after party!)
Lastly, I have it on good authority than Ben304 can play the drums. := And I consider it my civic duty as an AGSer to volunteer other people whenever I can.

Well, that was easy. 8)
It's almost eerie how people think alike, I was wandering around with exactly the same idea :D
Although I would have gone for the 'house band' idea in it that the band could record game music for fellow AGSers. Well and ofcourse have fun! :D
Anyway, I play keys to some extent if you need them :)
I can take the drum spot, i play a Roland electric kit so recording isn't much of a problem. How serious are we talking? I already have two band practices a week plus uni and my filmmaking, but it would be fun to lay down drum tracks over guitar recordings if there's a click track involved.

Awesome! Pretty serious... We're not going to make money or anything, it's just something that we love doing and we want to do it. It's all about having fun and laying down some cool tunes. It's not about m4d sk1llz or how complex the songs are - it's just about playing some music. Having said that, things WILL get done, and we'll probably have a myspace, a last.fm and such, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
If both of you have Skype and are sure you're up to it, then please reply here again, just to be sure, and you'll be in the band.
After that, only vocals will be needed, and after that, it'll be time to set the first band meeting! :D

A sample would be most appreciated. It's not that we don't trust you, but having a sample allows us to know what type of voice you have, what music we can play etc.
PS: Damon is also awesome!
If you need harsher vocals or an extra electric guitar drop me a line. I also have quite decent recording equipment present and some experience with mixing stuff, but that probably isn't much help at this point :P
Damn you, Shiver!

I've been wanting to set up something like this for months, but have been waiting until I have better internet, and maybe a keyboard.

You seem to have a pretty powerful voice. And you're also the first singer to post a sample. Therefore, you're in. We'll keep DeadSuperhero in mind, so maybe we'll collaborate with two singers, or maybe you could actually have duets. The point is that you're in, Noa, welcome to the band!
We probably won't play the kind of rock you played on the recording... Or we will, who knows! Tieing in with what Duals said, we're not sure about anything really, so it's definetly worth trying out having a few songs with female vocals. Music is like that - trial and who knows? :D
Thanks guys :)

I can make it any time after 3 6 until about midnight.
And I'm English.
@Noa: That's a really nice voice you have there. Strong, but gentle. "I'm the Man" also reminded me of early Lacuna Coil, not so much in style, but in your voices and the way they play off each other. It's a good thing. :)
I don't work on Fridays so techically I'm available from the morning.
This Friday I'll be available from 1:00 PM GMT till midnight.
Thanks Ultra Magnus :)
I've never heard of Lacuna Coil but I'll look them up.

I'd supply vocals (lead and/or backup,) but my recording situation isn't exactly good. I only have a few cheap mics with crappy quality.

I was thinking along the lines of "This is My Dream" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFbdXE-O-tk) off of their debut EP.
I'm not too familiar with anything they've done since their first album (except for that one track that was in Guitar Hero), so while some of their more recent stuff might still sound like that, don't blame me if it doesn't. :)

Well, we won't really have rehearsals as a group due to lag and other issues. As a group, we'll have band meetings in which we write songs, discuss the band name and other such stuff.
I'll start a poll and if we get enough votes for yes, then of course you (and others) can join in and listen :) (just listen, unfortunately - it's going to be hard enough having 6-7 people talking := ) - BAND MATES CAN VOTE HERE: http://host1.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=43828 (http://host1.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=43828)
ATTENTION BAND:We've already got one person who cannot make it this Friday: what should we do? Should we cancel or meet anyways? What if we have 2 people who can't come? Please throw in your opinion(s)!
Like I just got done writing to Dan, hold the meeting whether I'm there or not. It is now looking more likely that I will be there since the in-laws are NOT coming (they were supposed to be here tomorrow around noon until Sunday).
Ok, I am available at:
- 15:00-16:00
- 19:00-3:00 (but not continuously obviously ;))
I can make it.
see you all tonight :)
I have to admit I was excited to have it at 10am and now a little bummed that it is now 3pm. In a whole though, it is better for everyone else... especially Ultra Magnus, heh. I think the time for him was 3AM ;)
Hopefully I can be there. Wife's gonna be home at that time. I can see it not working out very well - she'll want to play WiiFit, Sam (my daughter) will want to watch a movie and Amy (a.k.a. "Dennis the Dogs") will be constantly "tap dancing" all over the laminate floor because she's excited for Kristen to be home... gah.... all this being in the same room as the computer... maybe I can get her to bring Sam and Amy downstairs.

Nope, it's electric, Snake.
So what's up for tomorrow?
I've practiced the first solo again and again to the best of my abilities (which isn't much to shake a stick at), broken my high-E string, changed my strings, my fingertips are sore and I've got a blister started on my middle finger.
What is required for tomorrow besides having practiced your part and having extremely sore fingies?
Good question!
???
I've listened to the song and read the lyrics.
the verses are a bit low for me.
This can be solved by:
-Singing first thing in the morning (when I record it).
-Singing it an Octave above.
other than that I have no problem with the song. how about the rest of you guys?
@snake - lay off your middle finger for a while :)
No one but Noa and I have posted ???
Dan, have you tried out Voice Chatter yet? I'm looking at the site right now and I'm a little confused as to how it works. It seems it is a bit like IRC in a way? Has anyone else tried it?
So before I download and set it up, I think one of us have to set up a server or some shit... sorry, I know nothing about this stuff.
Also, What time is it for me again, 12pm?
Quote@snake - lay off your middle finger for a while :)
hahaha, easier said than done ;D
Yes, there is a problem with the voice chatting program. We shall discuss it more on Skype, but in written chat form and decide what to do about it.
See you in a few hours (I have a Uni presentation to do).
Also, Snake - it should be around 14:00 (2 PM).
Yes it needs a server, but luckily I have one. You you please meet me on IRC?
So... where am I supposed to be right now?
Basically I finished recording my parts but cause of some technical Cubase problems (I have no VSTS!!) I'm quite sure I'm not in sync with the rhythm of the song. can any of you check that? maybe I'll have time tomorrow to record it again.
The low voice is horrible but I think it sounds kinda ok with the high voice in the verse. anyway I'm uploading the tracks now . hopefully it'll finish by the morning.
I tried adding Dual's and Dan's waves to my project and it sounds kinda cool most of the time :)
Dan , I think you should have your different guitar effects on seperate channels so it'll be easier to handle them in the mixing process.
Dual , maybe you should cut some of the begining of your wave (the bit just before you start playing) to fit with the playback.
unfortunately I can't hear wyz's cos I have no VSTS at the moment :'( but the midi looks quite impressive 8)

Lol well it's ok, there will be a real audio track soon enough. I've got everything recorded on my electric piano; I only need to tape it. I'm particularly happy with the organ track, the strings are a bit off. I'm going to clean the piano track (it's not in the backing) a bit before I'll tape it. It will be the most important part, the strings and organ tracks will only be needed partly or put into the background.
Well speak you all tomorrow I guess :)
Hey, Noa.
Yeah, I haven't fixed that, but I will, I just let it for the man that will blend this all together I guess? I can honestly say, that I made two awesome recordings, one take on the song, and then when the outro comes, my mom just came into the room and yelled. Not at me, but I just told her that she can come when I'm playing. :/
That explains the 3 attempts. I'm not overly happy with my sound.
Dan - First, we're on the same timing. So that's something. Also, I know it's first attempt and stuff. But your sound volume hits quite high levels. Also I can't say I'm a fun of the non-distorted main chords. The main problem is the high levels. When you reach quite a level of volume, you lose quality,so instead of distortion, I get noise. It'd be quite easier to explain if I knew the words in English. You know how much I respect you. I know you can get a better sound than this. That's all.
Noa, if we're talking sync, I'm checking that, you seem to be okay. At least the three of us (Dan, Me, Noa) seem to be in sync. I'm doing some conversions, cause audacity sucks, so I don't know if Wyz's in sync or not. I'm also on the process of downloading your backup vocals.
EDIT: Actually we are in sync :P
When do I get to see(hear) some of teh stuf?

I'll repost it here as well, so maybe everyone can see:
* Everybody needs to think of THE SECOND song... I've been lucky enough and my bandmates have been so cool as to select my proposition as the first song, so everyone else needs to propose ONE song per person. We'll then vote on the one we like the best, and that'll be our second cover. Everyone should send me their propositions (either posting here or PM or IRC or whatever) along with a Youtube link and I'll post them here so that everyone else can have a listen until the meet.
I stand by my suggestion from our first meeting : Space oddity by David bowie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssnxo4lNp8w&feature=rec-LGOUT-real_rn-1r-7-HM
I think it has parts for everyone (correct me if I'm wrong) and I think it's something everyone should put into consideration when choosing a song.
there are 2 guitar solos, strings(ish) , acoustic guitar , bass , drums , clapping and weird background noises - there's something for everyone :P I can fake a british accent ;)
I really like the backing voices on 'For here Am I sitting in a tin can...'
ok I'll shut up now
Added to the list on the first post, Noa. :)
Also, the Helloween cover is very nice as well (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mynby0TLbRI). It's really surprising how well they stuck to the original seeing as how they're a power/heavy metal band.
Space Oddity would be pretty cool. If I may make a suggestion, though, why not try recording Get Back by The Beatles?
If we're going for Beatles songs, I'd love Hey Jude. Now, I'm also in favor of Space Oddity. :D
wow , that Helloween cover is pretty accurate! I've never heard of them but it does sound confusing if you say they are actually a metal band , Dan :) great job they did there!

No sorry, no Beatles for me. That's totally not my cup of tea. :P
Well since we all will probably vote for the songs we already suggested at first meeting, why not do all of them? Well or like we did last time, all of them if all of us can play it?
I think I can play Space oddity. Btw if we are going to do it next, let's experiment, this song has great potential for weird stuff :D.
Btw, I know Helloween, they make this really narrative, epic music. Never heard this cover actually but damn it's good. :D
I also like the synths in it.

It is a reference to the movie "Waynes World" when Haggis said, "Stairway denied!" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RD1KqbDdmuE)
Here are my picks for the next song that I think we may be able to do something with:Life By The Drop - by Stevie Ray Vaughan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7ZPMScX9-k)
Angel From Montgomery - by Susan Tedeschi (originally by John Prine and later by Bonnie Raitt) (http://www.freewebs.com/spentertainment/MISC/Angel%20From%20Montgomery%20-%20Susan%20Tedeschi.mp3)
I'm sorry, but you have to download the song (I recorded it off Rapsody). The only one I can find on YouTube is a live version by her... and you've GOT to hear the studio version first (I love this song).
Copy the link and paste it into the address bar to download...
Ride On - by AC/DC (you didn't think I would leave them out, did you?) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsDpwb3ILxM)
Reach for the Sky - by Firehouse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3TDfXt0DrI)
And if we ever decide to do an instrumental, I suggest:
Mr. Scary - by Dokken (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bSP8c3Apz4)
or... (OF COUSE!)
THE ADVENTURES OF WILLY BEAMISH THEME SONG!!1! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A_0l4Pmdqk&playnext=1&list=PL5E54A426194C5595)
You have to admit that this song kicks fucking ass.
I hope that is enough suggestions.
Maybe one day we can try making our own song?
Exsqueeze me? Baking powder? Did you just imply that I haven't seen Wayne's World?
Shyea right, and monkeys might fly out of my butt.
In other news, I'm officially announcing my suggestion for our next cover: Baba O'Riley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKUBTX9kKEo).
Based on the fact that everybody seems to like it. And nobody seems to like Cream. :(
Also, we'd very much like a drummer, please.
You'll have to obtain it illegally (or legally :D) but EZDrummer (http://www.toontrack.com/ezdrummer.asp) works like magic!
And Magnus your cover is awesome so far!!

It's just that Baba oriley is more up-beat , just like you suggested in your PM , and it seems pretty challenging , in a good way that can produce interesting things from us.. or not.. :)
I think we should also try to write something soon, maybe after a few more covers, just to see where it throws us :D
I wouldn't mind doing Cream. But it looks like we'll end up doing The Who... :P Not that I hate the song or anything, just not a fan of them.

THANK YOU! A friend of mine turned me on to her quite a few years back. She's got a great voice. I can certainly hear you doing this song.
I can't remember who it was on IRC last night, Yarcanox maybe... but thought it was a country song. It's got a small "aroma" of country only because of the strings and slide, but other than that, it's more blues.
I figured we could do something nice with this song. If not this time, then maybe another time.

;D np
the thing is that this song and the others that you mentioned (which are really cool btw 8)) don't have enough parts for all of us. they are mostly guitar based.
ofcourse we can change the arrangement and make it richer but that means we'll have to approach it differently.

I believe that was me :P.
Angel from Montgomery is a very cool song. And I think Noa's voice could make it sound great. It's even got enough parts for everybody, if one of the guitars takes the violin part.
Like Wyz said a while ago, seeing as we're having everyone pick a cover, I reckon we should do them all. And if somebody's choice is too tough, let them choose another. Even if everyone is eager to start an original composition, I'd like to come back and do the rest of the covers later on.

I can't speak for you, because I don't know your range yet, but it's pretty easy for the guitars and piano. It's basically just three chords for the most part. And I'm sure you can knock it out of the park. :)
And I'm glad people don't dislike Cream. I may just change my mind again...

I think you should try:

This is pretty sweet.
And is that a Steam message sound at the end os Space oddity? ;D
Sounding good guys (and lady).
Some thoughts:
The singing is nice but I wish it was a little less passive at times. Thats not really a criticism of the vocalist but rather that you may have chosen the wrong songs to covers. For instance, Comfortably Numb really requires a very strong voice in the chorus and Noa's voice doesn't seem to fit that well. Noa's voice would work excellent in a folk or acoustic rock setting. Even psychedelia would work. (See Espers, Beth Orton, Bat For Lashes, Gregory and the Hawk)
The mixing is generally well done, especially the lead guitars which are always cutting and clear without being harsh. My only criticism is that the vocals sometimes get lost. Maybe patching the vox into a sidechain of a global compressor would help.
The only other thing I noticed is that the timing is a little off. It seems to mainly be the acoustic guitar but the drums might be contributing too.
Well done though guys! I'm impressed you pulled it off.
I'm not a fan of Pixel Floyd, so I can't say much about that cover, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Space Oddity one.
I'm wondering though, you're looking for a drummer but there's drums in these? Programmed?
Calin mentioned timing issues - they're not big, but they're a little off from time to time.
BUT. As your first two songs, and given that it's an internet project, I have to say this is really rather good :D
Keep goin'!
Thanks for your comments and critiques, guys :D
After all the time spent on them, which included the goofing off, swearing and clusterfucks, it feels great to have these two songs finally out there!
\\--EDIT--//
Yes, the drums are programmed by Dan for the time being.
\\--EDIT2--//
Also, Dan, Facebook doesn't let me listen to them all the way through. They both stopped at a minute and 40 something.
Could just be my computer?
And on Reverbnation, in the "Basic Information" box, Dualnames is cut off like a bastard child ;)
Pretty good covers, especially Space Oddity. Can't wait to hear your original compositions!
Thanks, we're working on that ;D
Snake - Both the MySpace and ReverbNation profiles set up on Facebook play perfectly on my PC, so I don't know what the problem is for you. Maybe it won't work if you're not logged in with Facebook? I dunno, the Internet is still a strange beast for me that acts randomly because it can, so I have no solution for you at this time about that :( . But since nobody else has complained about it, I guess it's fine. Besides, you don't need Facebook to listen to the whole songs ;D
About the ReverbNation profile, it's been fixed. And speaking of RN, apparently, we've risen to the 106,477th position in the global Rock charts! (that's a +48,047 increase 8) ). Yeah, I know nobody cares, but baby steps and small victories, people! :D
Regarding what people have said, thank your very much for your input! However, I must disagree with Calin, but my view might be a bit eschewed due to my being part of the band, but I feel that I must say that we do not perceive Noa's voice as you've described it to be. Quite the contrary, I believe I speak for everyone in the band when I say that we're having a great time collaborating with her and we feel that her voice is quite powerful and a perfect fit for our songs (covers or otherwise). Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. :)
Cheers!
Regarding noa, I must say I can't believe she's part of this, that's how big my respect for her as a person and an artist is.
I'm no expert but these songs sound really professional! A job well done guys and girls! I do agree the vocals could do with a bit more spice at times. But I for sure can't sing so I'm still very impressed.
Great covers, kudos Pixel Hunters!!
I am now officially your fan!
I hope that will help you reach the 30,000s in reverbnation, it might help if some more people become fans though (hint hint) ;)
Thanks, Buckethead, Arj0n, and Tzach!
A very special thank you to Tzach without whom we wouldn't have met Noa! :D Be sure to like us on Facebook as well! ;D
About our first original song, I'll say this (in order to generate some hype): it is, basically, a combination of all our musical tastes into a pretty epic track! It definitely represents us!
By the way, will we be releasing on vinyl?
I seriously cant wait until I can afford a keyboard.
This stuff really does sound great.
I never said that Noa's voice was *bad* nor did I say that she shouldnt be in the band.

Calin, I think you may have misunderstood Dan. Unless I missed it while going back through the posts, nobody has accused you of saying her voice was bad or she shouldn't be in the band... as far as I can tell, you
didn't... so I don't understand why you would say that.
I understood Dan's reply to your comment as only defending his opinion of her voice with the songs we chose. He thinks they were perfectly fine for her voice and you think they don't work well for her type of voice. I found nothing wrong with your opinion. Nobody was upset with you. Hopefully Dan can back me up on this.
I'm sorry for being long winded, Calin (as I always am), but I just took your post as being offended by something that I didn't see happen. If I am misinterpreting the entire thing, please tell me :)

What's not to love about 8-tracks? No fast forwarding. No rewinding. No sir, you'll listen to whatever song is ready to play and you'll just have to wait until your favorite song comes around again. 8-tracks taught us the value of perseverance.
