Title: The Avatar.
Post by: jetxl on Wed 24/03/2004 15:38:32
I've changed my custom made avatar. :'(
I must say that I didn't wanted to change my cute dancing maids, but it was 450kb. People complained (the ususal suspects) about the size. and they made a point I can't counter for a change.

Therefore: the last post with this avatar.

The gif was copie and resized by aboris. All the 144 frames. As a favour for me.
It was the end cedits screen from Hand maid Mai.  An ecchi parody on hand maid May (note the difrent name - Mai <> May)
It should be a 3 part OVA but the makers went bankrupt and only released the first one.

This gif:(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/zillaTV.gif)
is a hidden cockpit cam animation from the original Carmagaddon, that was not in the game but on the cd as a *.fli file.

I would like to thank Petteri for saying he liked my avatar.
And farl, you still suck.

Just remember that not every ags-er has broadband. Some of us rely on dial-up for our Internet, and large animated GIF's take a long time to load. The same goes for large signature images.

Basically the rules are: No banners over 600x50. The reason the height limit is 50 pixels is due to the fact that anything bigger is too distracting, and can often be longer than the actual post.

I'm not sure about the size limit of animated avatars, but if it weighs in at over 150kb, common sense should apply. It would take about 30 seconds to d/l a 150kb avatar for me. That is bandwidth that could be used elsewhere.

And I think the explicit images rules have been done to death, so I won't repeat it here.

Thank you.

I'd like to take this oppurtunity to ask: can you guys see my avatar?

It's just, I can't, but I'm pretty sure the url is right & everything. It's not even a red cross that shows up......just blankness.....

I'm using Geocites with Anonomiser (or whatever it's called), so that could be part of the problem, of couse.

Ah, that would be the problem then! Geocities won't let you use them for filespace, they want you to create a webpage so they can stick adverts on it and pay for the bandwidth. I tried them for my avatar - that's how I found it didn't work. Try Angelfire, they seem okay with it.  :)

Well, anonymizer is supposed to override those hotlinking restrictions, but it has its own problems (like its incredibly slow speed). I'd suggest just signing up on photobucket.com for any images you need to link to on the forum..

A 450 kb avatar is rather outrageously inconsiderate.

I can't see it.
Those who can probably have it in their cache.
Why don't you guys try deleting all cookies and see if you can still see it? (damn lack of knowledge for 'see' synonyms!) :-X

Since we're at it... can you see my avatar?
(The other I had was in a Brazillian server and many couldn't see it - this one is on freewebs, and I wonder if you can see it now?)

Actually, DG's avatar reminds me a lot to the typical angry pose of Captain Haddock.

Not the most alike I remember, but I am too lazy for googling...

Hey TK, I can't really remember that situation of Haddock's, but I guess he was "attacked" by that ship thingie in the bridge...

The Image I am looking for was just the next frame after a llama splits in his face.

This one?

He was trying to change the ship from reverse to forward, IIRC, but the handle came loose, and he tried to operate it with that scredriver, but it slipped and he hit his chin on that thing... then he kicked it, then really attaced it, and when Tintin heard the noise, he came to see, and found that Haddock had put it in a quite difrent shape...

I remember the llama thing too... it was just like Rich's avatar, but from the side... It wasn't that one, Jet.

Nope Jet... I remember that the Llama stuff happened in a Peruan town, not enough high to be dressed in that way. I think that's a "Tintin au Tibet" frame.

But it's close... working in a new avatar for DG!

The one I got now is fine.

That frame is from the Tibet book... the llama thing is from the Prisoners of the Sun, near to the beginning... "No, you shall not make the llama angry. If llama angry, it does that." or something :P

The frame Jet posted was from the part where the Yeti had drank Haddock's whisky, I think...

Well, at least, take a look to this Captain Haddock looking alike Mr. Nicholson!

I perfectly imagine him saying: "I am the king of the mother who fuc*ed the shore party!!!!1!!"
