What do you think is the best part of making an adventure game?

For myself, I think the best part is when you have written a good story and drawn some backgrounds and finally get to the programming part. Thats what I like. Programming.Ã,  :=

You are a sick, sick man.

Heh, don't worry, I love the programming part myself as well. Although I haven't worked on a sngle game since I temporarily abandoned my old one (By the Sword).

Best bit I find is making up the characters, and setting

In my opinion, the best part in the creation of a game, it's the time that you finally end it!

You I make a walk cycle that looks really good I usually spend a few minutes just walking around a background, looking at it.

And then when I make an animation that involves lots of scripted timing and it all comes together, I watch that for even longer, over and over again...

So I suppose it isn't feedback or the knowledge that someone will play my game, it's the thrill of seeing something I've made come to life

The worst part is when you finish the game, upload it, add a link to the completed games section and then sit there refreshing agsforums until someone responds...

Hey, you don't have to upload it (by the way, is there any free site, where is available the uploading of file under 8MB size?).

Anyway, i insist, the best part is the moment you finally end it, and then you play it, congratulating yourself for the work that you have done!

The best part of making an adventure game is when I finally get it finished ;)
You got it!

Sam.

Bye bye thankyou I love you.

I agree with Colossal. I love to see my own animations in action. Ã, ;D

What I really hate, is adding descriptions to every single object in the game(look at, pick up, interact, talk to etc). I know there's probably a global code to set some descriptions at default, but I just haven't figured it out yet. Besides that, I dislike programming in general. Ã, :P

The best part is the programming. Debugging can be irritating, but most rewarding when you finally find the mistake.

Haddas

Finishing it. As of TODAY I now have 2 finished AGS games, both hour games :/

I hate myself for sucking at scripting and patience...

SSH

working out a convoluted way to do something in AGS scripting because cj hasnt got round to suppporting it yet... ;)

Probobly when I make something that works or looks good. Especially if I've been trying ages to make the damn thing work it's such a feeling of joy and relief. I also do the same thing as MrColossal when I make a good looking walk cycle or animation, hehe  :=

The best part about making a game is when all the single parts you've worked so hard on ( like the visuals, the code, the atmosphere ) start to add up to something more than just the sum of all those single factors...

DragonRose

The best part is far and away writing the story and figuring out how the game would work. All the planning stages- I love doing that.

The worst is actually creating the game.  It's like Albert Hitchcock said, if you've done all your planning really well, the most boring part of creating something is actually creating it. You've already done everything in your head. It's finished. Now you have to do it again.

i have found that coming up with a game idea is the best part, it's all down hill from there because you actually have to do some work...

The part I HATE is making walkcycles for characters. It's so damn boring...

I'm with MrColossal, the best part is seeing the animation and all your ideas coming to life.

Finishing the game is also a great feeling.  Only problem is, I'm usually sick of it by then! And then I don't really feel like playing it since I know what happens.  All that work just to upload and be rid of it.

But at least other people get something to play...

I'm happy I'm not the only one saying programming. Programming, by far, is my favourite part of making the game and it doesn;t make much sense considering that I was never a mathematical person, and I'd consider myself an artist above all. I think my relationship with art was always a rocky one because my personality if definitely more suited to the logical, mathematical side of things. Programming gives me a chance to get that out. There's nothing I love more than problem solving (I'm the least fun at D&D because I desperately want to solve the riddles and puzzles, not just "role play").

Although it's frustrating when a scripting error occurs, I almost get a little happy because I love finding the error and fixing it, testing the game and having it miraculously work like a charm.

The worst for me is animating characters... just... so... much... work. Walk cycles, argh!

Bad Voo-doo man

Best: The programming
Worst: Drawing Characters  ;)
