Title: The bi-tri-semi-annual-and-a-half tunes post.
Post by: Flippy_D on Tue 25/05/2004 23:01:05
What's your playlist, bub? Or song of the moment?

How about telling us a new discovery you've made? Found a kickarse new artist lately? Revived a golden oldie?

What about your musical taste, has that shifted, or stayed the same? Found something that you would have happily betted money on hating slapping you pleasantly in the face?

In short, do tell...

Looking at the songs, I'd like to talk about a few of them.

Babylon Zoo: Spaceman.
Never really remembered much about this except the signature starting line. Never knew it was number one for aeons, so I was surprised at how well it had stood the test of time. Quite fun to listen to.

Hot hot heat: Get in or get out.
So... my cousin comes down and recommends this to me. On hearing the opening bar or two it sounds less than impressive, but it's a real grower. Worth it.

Lovin' Spoonful: Summer in the City.
Always meant to get this. Finally, when I did, I wasn't disappointed. Bloody good song.

Scissor Sisters: Laura.
Funkadelic.

Franz Ferdinand: Matineé.
Good band, actually. A pleasant change to the generic R+B flooding the market at the moment. If you haven't heard it, try to.

Reactor: Feeling the Love.
The music from the Lynx Touch advert, and pretty catchy. Good song.

The Eagles: Hotel California.
Found a brilliant, brilliant live version of it, absolutely superb. Listened to it relentlessly.

PPK: Resurrection.
Damn near forgotten this, too. Recent-ish, very popular tune, but faded away somewhat. I located a shortened version and am enjoying it immensely.

The Thrills: Big Sur.
Best album of last year for me. Stunning, stunning sound.

So, those are what I've found/rediscovered/enjoyed. How about you?

I actually saw this musical, Avenue Q, on Broadway and most of those songs are hilarious, and really well written.

Another good song is "The Piano is Like a Woman" by the Black Liars. It's hard to find, but it's genius.

So, in summary, I basically listen to progressive metal/rock, old nu-metal or video game music.

Albums list:

(won't use image tags, because I doubt anyone wants to see two 1280x1024 images in the thread :P)

Oh yeah, and LGM - "This is my entire music collection.. Some of the folders contain 50+ random songs that fit into the category it's under.. I have to say, it's probably one of the most organized music collections I've seen.. Thank God for MediaMonkey". Not to brag or anything, but:

Every artist has their own folder, under which each album has its own folder. If I have more than one song by an artist, they have their own 'assorted' folder. If I have only one song by an artist, it goes in the 'Assorted' folder...

Here is the start of my current playlist:

I know it's soft [wussy] music (for the most part) but it helps me relax while I'm working.Ã,  Plus it's good music and not the crap that passes for music these days.

This is all of my music I have atm. I listen to alot of Jeff Buckley, Dream Theater, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coldplay, as you can probably see. I usually just listen to all my music on random, but now I'm thinking of making playlists for what mood I'm in.

I tend to not have a lot of music stored on my PC - if I like the band, then I have their CD anyway, & therefore do not need their stuff on my PC.

You just had to ask, didn't you?
Well, this is my entire music collection http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/music_collection.jpg

There's quite a bit I don't listen to much though, at the moment it's mainly momus, cake, chicks on speed, Bjork (though I always listen to her stuff, it calms me down when i'm stressed), and jonothan richmond. About the only thing they have in common is they're all pretty obscure... My faivorite kind of music is electronic though, The Human leauge rock! *starts dancing*

*edit* my computer shrinks that pic downso that it fits on the screen, which renders it illegible. if this happens, hover the mouse over it and there should be an icon that appears in the bottom right corner. Click on it.

Heh well I only just got some Nirvana stuff. I've been meaning to for ages, since Nevermind has been like the top album of so many top 100 albumn thingys I've seen. Oh and its pretty cool too.

I'm dissapointed by the lack of Jeff Buckley stuff people have. He was only one of the best artists of the 90's.

Pizzicatto Five
Cinematic Orchestra
Cody Chesnutt
Marwin Gaye
Sly and the family stone
Chet Baker

and finally a single song: Temporary secretary - Paul McCartney (This one is truly special, nothing like anything you've ever heard of McCartney before... And still its from the 80ies...)

Anyone share my musical taste?

Don't you think it's really hypocritical for you to get all up in arms about people downloading programs and then steal all those songs?

And by "Don't you think it's really" of course I mean "It's incredibly frickin'"

so maybe you should stop telling people to not pirate or delete those mp3s.

I kinda like nine inch nails... but not really anymore, my tastes have evolved.

I used to listen to them during high school along with KMFDM and Atari Teenage Riot. I still listen to a few KMFDM songs [I love DIY and Juke Joint Jezebel] and I could probably still listen to Atari Teenage Riot but there are too many silly 80's songs of NIN for me to seriously rock out.

as for what I'm listening to now...

Recently got back into Pain which is an awesome band...

Tom Waits and Nick Cave are still on my top 3 constantly being listened to CDs... I don't know what the 3rd is. Maybe my sad robots mix CD.

Múm and Skeleton Killers and Modest Mouse and Ugly Casanova and Grandaddy and Flaming Lips and My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult [mmmm My Life...]

just too many good bands to list.

I used to be kind of a fan, back in the "Closer" days.Ã,  But I've also moved on to other pastures.Ã,  Trent Reznor just doesn't cut it for me anymore.Ã,  However, I still listen to some Manson once in a great while.

Nowadays, I listen to a lot of Mushroomhead, Cold, Systematic, Spineshank, and (as always) Pantera.Ã,  Mostly synth metal, or heavy metal.

I don't have any music on my computer (as I never got into the MP3 ripping/downloading and CD burning revolution), but I should just post a list of all of the cds I have. :P

The only thing I dislike about Nin, as well any artist that has some kind of alternate way of looking at things, is most the fans are black haired pale skinned little Trent Reznors..

If they don't "do it for you" then, oh well. The Fragile is an amazing album on any level not just 'I am dark and hate my parents' level. At least in my opinion. Good song writing is good song writing..

However, as a chance to share a fun little Nin story..

How Sylpher Got His First NIN CD.

Well, one warm summer day.. I don't know when.. like 8 years ago. My friend and I were browsing the CD racks at the ever happening 'Wal-Mart'. The only place to shop for cd's within 50 miles at my hometown. Anyways, fliping through he came across 'Nine Inch Nails: Further Down The Spiral'. "Hey, Isn't Nine inch Nails cool?" He asked me. "Yeah! They have a cool song about pigs" I replied.. so he took it to the counter, purchased it and everything was daisies and kittens!

Well.. About a week later I spent the night at the friends house and.. long story short. His mom made him give me the CD saying it was evil and she didn't want him to listen to it.

See.. was fun wasn't it?
