From John Romero to David Henry, tell us all about your favourite ASSHOLES from the gaming industry!
John Romero is a John Romero.
David Henry is a moron that was on the Crimson Skies team, that may or may not be an actual moron, but comes across as being an extreme moron. Man, what a moron.
Mike Nelson of Lucasarts :P
I suspect Romero isn't as much of an idiot as he is taken for. Basing his entire reputation on Daikatana is like how Hollywood bases Terry Gilliam's reputation on The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Plus, Romero is friends with Schafer, so that must count for something.
As far as my own contribution goess, I guess I'd nominate Neil Young from EA. I hear really conflicting opinions about this guy. Some industry people think he's great and some think he sucks, but anyone who makes a statement like (and this is paraphrasing) "We haven't yet had a computer game that makes you cry, but we should reach that point in the next five years)" clearly needs to play some games outside of what his own company publishes. EA obviously doesn't publish very emotionally weighty material, but Young seems to be completely blind to gaming history.
And how could we forget good old Randy Breen of LucasArts? What a fucker.
Rusalka Clarke of Parasite Games is a pretty big moron IMO.. Wasting all of her gaming resources on writing crazy posts.

Hooray for diplomacy!!! \o/
Derek Smart - he makes the Battlecruiser games (one of the worst sims ever made, and that's coming a fan of simulations) and posts on it's forums almost everyday.
I don't think anyone who is famous enough for us to know their name can be classified as a "moron".
Stuck up, or arrogant, maybe. But not morons.

That's a statement that would be pretty hard to solidly defend, I'd think...
Ok - a bit to the side (because they're not strictly a games company) but Steve Balmer of Microsoft is the biggest arsehole ever. And to prove it, here's Steve himself (http://users.pandora.be/bonte/forumafbeeldingen/dancemonkeyboy.mpg).
Also: Name the most stuck up or arrogant members of the gaming industry!

Okay - I get what you mean. I didn't clarify my statement. I meant that everyone who's been mentioned so far has created a kick-ass game (obviously there are those who disagree, but if the game truly sucked, it wouldn't be popular), so they aren't morons. They're just unwise, maybe ignorant. But certainly not retarded or idiots.

Remind me, what did this psycho do?
This one guy from Dima Software.. I can't remember his name, but all I know that Dima seems to be falling in his hands, what will come of it?
You're so full of anger, Yufster....
Heck, I don't even know anybody from the gaming industry

Derek Smart hasn't made a kick-ass game, therefore he is indeed a moron. Just because a game is popular it doesn't mean it's kick-ass.
Yes. Like DOA for instance. That game was bullshit.
I liked Crimson Skies, but I don't have clue of who was on the team (never read credits)...
QuoteTHIS IS THE ENDDDD OF THE GAME, *gasp* AND THIS IS THE BEGINNINGGGGG, AND *grunt*WHAT'S IN THE MIDDLEEEE, IS EVEN BETTERRR!!!!*flkflk*
I must appologize for such a short reply, but:
?
I think every statement is one that would be hard to defend, remo...
The question should be who comes off as a moron since we have no idea what these people are like beyond games they've made/stupid shows on discovery channel/forum posts
and TheDude, how is your opinion any better/more valid than the thousands of people who enjoy Derek Smarts games?

So, just to make sure we're entirely clear about this, I'll simplify your argument into an easily understandable syllogistic form:
Major premise: Derek Smart makes games
Minor premise: You don't like those games
Conclusion: Derek Smart is a moron
...
Whu?
Quoteand TheDude, how is your opinion any better/more valid than the thousands of people who enjoy Derek Smarts games?
I didn't say it was. And yes, it is just my opinion. His games aren't given less than mediocre review scores for no reason.

"I meant that everyone who's been mentioned so far has created a kick-ass game so they aren't morons."
According to this logic, yes!
Ahem... I think it is VERY obvious who the BIGGEST moron of the gaming idustry is... Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Ian Livingston. Or whoever that guy was that said adventure games are stupid and a waste of time.
I think he was like, president of Edios. I don't quite know if the first name is correct, but I know his last name is Livingston.
But... but...
Fighting Fantasy books rule!
*cries*
Also, Dude; having made a great game is one of many things that could invalidate someone's status as a moron - another such acheivement is that of receiving a doctorate, which (I believe) is something Derek Smart has done.
What about Tim Schafer?
He had a publishing contract with M$, and he blew it!
Or Benoit Sokal?
He had a great franchise going, and pissed it up the wall!
Not that I've actually played Syberia II, or particularly liked the first one... Hmm...
Quote"I meant that everyone who's been mentioned so far has created a kick-ass game so they aren't morons."

No [my opinion]. You're trying do find a difference between popular and kick-ass. A game isn't popular if people don't like it (I personally hate his games, but popular opinion would suggest larger society thinks differently). A game that people like, could, under normal circumstances, be called kick-ass (NOT meaning that it is the best game ever made in all time). So he HAS made a good game, and most definitely cannot fit under this definition:
moron: A stupid person; a dolt. [dictionary.com]
or this:
moron: A city of eastern Argentina, an industrial suburb of Buenos Aires. Population: 641,541.

There are people who enjoy Derek Smart's games?????
As for the whole "moron" issue, I think we're being a little too pedantic about the exact definition.
I think the whole point of this thread was just to show people who have made big blunders in the gaming industry.
I'm pretty sure this thread wasn't intended to say such-and-such game maker has a an actual mental deficiency.
Though, if anyone's read some of Derek Smart's comments, you wouldn't be mistaken for thinking he does have a mental deficiency.

Oh shaddup. You know what you are? Your a city of eastern Argentina, an industrial suburb of Buenos Aires! Yeah! Take that! Oh, you just got burned! :P
QuoteOh shaddup. You know what you are? Your a city of eastern Argentina, an industrial suburb of Buenos Aires! Yeah! Take that! Oh, you just got burned!
Yeah, you burned me. My fragile ego often suffers from comments by people with shitty grammar on an adventure game forum.
/me breaks down and cries.
The biggest moron is undoubtably Warren Spector. I shall elaborate on this later.
You shouldn't, for fear of talking absolute shite.

Just thought I'd share that..
And I still stick with my original answer.. Rusalka Clarke is the biggest gaming moron..

That guy decreased the worth of a Yale diploma eight-fold. Little known fact: George W. Bush was a male cheerleader.

Biggest morons of the gaming industry? The creators of Pac-man. Seriously, what the hell were they thinking. That game blows. Mediocre (at best) graphics and piss-poor interface.
How could the creators of Pac-Man be morons? They created a highly-addictive and high replay value game. They made a ton of money, and if you think its just that people bought the game at first, but then got bored.... then why did the subsequent sequels and remakes still make money. I'm just trying to understand why you would think they are morons?
