Title: The colour of your mind.
Post by: Haddas on Wed 11/08/2004 17:27:11
Hello. :)

I'm starting this topic out of pure interest. I was wondering what colour do you think of when you see the number 4. That is, I want you to think of a colour that fits number four. The interest started because Both I and my sister think of:

(don't read before you think of an appropriate colour)

Spoiler
yellow
[close]

Also, why do things like sound and numbers, or even words have different colours in your mind if you think about it?

And the reason is because to use red text in mIRC, it's number 4. And I thought of red even before I realized you wanted me to associate a colour with the number 4. So it's definite.

Interesting, I wonder if you're a uh... I forget the name for now, but it's a word that begins with 's' and means you see everything and associate numbers/letters/etc in your mind as colours, shapes and patterns. I've been told I am because I've always had very definite visual shapes and colours associated with numbers, letters, names, ... well, a lot of stuff. I don't know if that's not completely normal though (personally, I think everyone does this), but apparently it's a ... thing that exists. I wish I could remember the word.

As for what I think about the number 4...
Spoiler

Definitely pink.

Red for four. The reason is really funny. Because of using Qbasic for half my life, color 4 means red. However, for 7 I think green, and 3 is yellow, etc. I guess I just used red and blue alot. Blue is 1

Aushor. Yes, you're a frickin' weirdo and should be put in a mental institute... Well not really. Maybe nothing really special has happened to you that would have something to do with number four. to me, thinking of letters auto-assigns colours to them. If I think of a letter it first looks kinda like this text, but 0.2 seconds (The average "ping" of a human) the letters get coloured by something. I wonder WHY this assigning of colours occur? Does it serve a mental purpose of any kind?

Maybe, except there were different colours for each of the numbers, so that means that the number 4 could be red, yellow, blue or green. Thats an interesting idea tho. We used to play that game all the time.

I'd have to say Black.

Why? Because at night you can leap out of bushes and attack people!

You can also hide from the many fools that want you to do that thing known as work!

Furthermore, all my pens are black, so if I were to write the number 4, it would be black (I don't use pencils, they need sharpening too often).

4-red
5-blue
6-green
7-yellow
8-purple

I don't have any others, oddly enough.
Now, you may be wondering why I dug up this severly old thread. Well, I thought I had posted my impressions of the colors of numbers here earlier, but apparently I didn't. But that's not why I just posted...There is a recent news article that made me think of this thread.

My memory isn't there for school tests, but it is there for remembering the location of a thread over 1 year old.Ã,  ::)

Well, maybe this news article will make you rethink your posts. Maybe youre 1 out of 2000.... maybe not.

And don't be like me and drag up old topics.

I do the same for shapes. Sometimes if I see a square I will divide it into 3 pieces in my mind (one large and two small triangles) and assign it the number 3  :D.

I don't think of them as colours...only shapes. Colours depend on the context...When I'm reading about a number 4 on a door I think of silver, when it is a calendar entry, I think of black...
