The day after tomorrow... Clima discussion

I've seen the movie... Nice effects, I like when they're not too "noticeable". Some thins are exagerated, but, hey... It's a hollywood movie.

But I don't want to discuss about that... I wonder if such a climatic change could happen in such a short lapse of time.

The theory: Too many glacial ice is fused, too many sweet water in the sea, so the marine currents change bringing a new glacial era. My question...

a) Very likely to happen something simillar soon.
b) Very unlikely to happen something simillar soon.
c) It will surelly happen in the future.
d) It would never happen...

What do you think?

I never watched the movie and am not going to, and I don't care about what it's about.

But similar catastropic disaster happened 30+ years ago already, read Incredible Tide!

30 years ago a glacial age started? Wow... All came back to normal quickly...

I think it will come, if this world carries on for 100 years. I don't think This world is gonna last, in shape it is in, for the next hundred years, because of the rapture.

But if you do not believe in that, and it wouldn't excist, then yes, this world is going to be in a few hundred years ice age.

PS: I've seen the movie too, and it sucked! Just making a movie with some nice effects, doesn't make it a good movie! I think this movie will disappear real quickly.

The ice caps will probably melt within 300 years at the rate we're going, but the Ice Age would be a while after that, seeing as how we're in a state of global warming.
Once I killed a man. His name was Mario, I think. His brother Luigi was upset at first, but adamant to continue on the adventure that they started together.

Nacho

That's the paradox we see in the movie... Warming=Ice melting=The level of sweet water in the sea reaches a critical point=Change of the marine currents=Ice age.

But it's a movie, not a factual demonstration of what would happen.

I think there's probably alot of peturbed climate scientists around the world as a result of this film.

Sure they consider global warming a very real and credible possibility and threat, but they probably are concerned that the sensationally bad science of the film, in it's portrayal of a sudden, apocalyptic change, could play into the hands of those who deny global warming as a possibility.

And on that note, it's amusing to see that the film has Fox news reporters at every stage of the action, which has nothing to do with the ownership of the film's studio of course, and is at odds with the fact that the network's commentators will invariably poo poo global warming.

condratdiction there  ;D

I seriously doubt this would happen any time soon and in 100 years Im pretty sure we would have got it sorted (fingers crossed)

No, in 100 years it will be considerably worse, most probably.

bah... Ice ages have come and gone several times without the help of humans.
Actually some norwegian scientists have released a paper today where they claim that large amounts of greenhouse gasses are released from the ground every now and then, altering the climate.
And I don't believe humans can turn this planet into a lifeless ball in space. All we can hope to achieve is to make ourselves, and quite a few other species, extinct.  :P
Remember that the planet doesn't care that we are living on it's back. It will manage just fine without us. That is the main reason we should take care!

Or watch Future Boy Conan.

Seeing as global warming is a natural thing, and most of the "scientific data" is propagandanized, this probably won't happen in the next 100-300 years. And most definitely it wouldn't happen that fast.

There is already evidence of global warming all around us.Ã,  Off the top of my head:

1. the ice cap on Mount Kilimonjaro (is that spelt correctly?) is 75% melted.Ã,

2. The U.S. tornado outbreak in May 2003 was the largest one since 1992.Ã,  In '92 some 200 tornadoes hit the U.S.Ã,  Ã, In 2003 over 500 twisters were reported.Ã,  At one point they were having like 16 tornadoes a day.

3. A massive piece of a glacier which has served as tourist attraction for years melted and fell off into the ocean not too long ago.

4. Europe had it's hottest summer in 200 years in the year 2003.

5. Look at all the massive flooding that has been happening recently.Ã,

6.Ã,  And science says there is more CO2 being released into the atmopshere than ever before.Ã,  Imagine every car on every road all over the world.Ã,  Think about all the tail pipe emissions.Ã,

I believe that global warming is a real thing and I certainly want to do my part in the reduction of gases that cause the green house effect.Ã,

P.S.  The movie was fantastic!  It had way deeper characters than I thought it would!   :)

I know Global Warming is a real thing.. But it's not exactly all our fault. Evidence shows that Global warming has happened before... The Earth spins and minds it's own business. We just kinda sit on it like fleas.. But nice fleas.. Not the biting mean ones.. Nice fleas that preform in circus's and stuff.

I agree with the reduction of use of fossile fuels... Imagine we discover a new and clean energy sistem... The texans and the arabs should drink their petrol!!!  ;D[/joke]

Or we could ride bikes like the Germans. And charge 1,500 dollars for a license.

And use natural light instead of electric.. And turn our computers off when not in use.. And.. Umm.. Stop being such fat american slobs ;) (I can say that cause I'm in Germany, right? ... right?)

Since most leading scientists worldwide believe we do affect our climate (hence the kyoto protocole along with plenty of other agendas and programs) at least I do not feel qualified to just go "nah i dun think we need to worry".
Of course, this a conception that varies from nation to nation.
