It is 10.38 PM here and Hungary is currently on..
Let's talk Eurovision here! :D
What country do you think will win?
not anymore they are.
I did not like that song anyway.
I not sure who I think will win, I havent heard all the songs.
And some of the songs I liked the most did not get to the final because stupid people voted the crap songs to the final.
I will give my "votes" later when I have heard all the songs.
Not really good performances yet..
And those eyebrows on that Greek singer, ugh.
Until now, I really liked the entry of Ireland, Finland wasn't that bad, either.
I agree Nihilyst, but I also liked the one from Slovenia, really nice melody.
hmm,
I wonder what that girl is looking at?
Picture is taken by the semi final by the way.
anyway, I hope Finland, Ireland, Slovenia and Moldova (even though she singed a bit false :() goes to the top!
I bet Bulgaria will win. They had such an original style to their song and performance.
COME ON ROMANIA!
result time!
Looks like my vote for Belarus went down the drain.
Now I'm rooting for Ukraine :D
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
WHY??
Why has so many people voted on serbia?
Eastern european voting. It always b0rks up the voting average.
Oh boo! Serbia won... :(
I hate ESC!
It is all bogus!
The song that whould of gone to the final and won the whole thing is this one:

Iceland!
Hm, of course the eastern states voted for their neighbours, but Serbia received many votes from other countries as well. And I didn't find the Serbian song that bad.
Nevertheless. Congratulations to all the participants.
melody wise it was good.
but I disliked the vocals.
Oh well.. It was fun watching the show.
I just hope Finland has a better participant next year :)
That was a pile of crap. The embarrassing fact is not that the eurovision itself is such a horrible event, it's the fact that schlager in Sweden is extremely popular, and all sorts of media devote months to it every spring.
I hope Sweden's pathetic position this year can put a damper on the whole phenomenon in the future.
Ukraine finished second, wtf!!???? That was not a song, that was more likely just an entertainment you listen to while drinking with your best friends.
But oh well, lets face it, most of the songs were crap, as always. I liked the Irish band though, and those retro 303s were so cool in Cyprus's song, too bad it didn't get into final..
Yay! United Kingdom didn't get nil points!.
I was hoping for Ukraine or Romania to win because they were funny, but as always the results were stupid.
To be honest though, I watched it here in England, solely for Terry Wogan's hilarious and deeply sarcastic comments! I do so for this reason every year.
I wish sweden had sent Sahara Hotnights instead. I quite like Cheek to cheek :x

that's not a yay, it's a friggin travesty. that song was utter crap.
Wow, we finished fifth overall! I hardly expected that, given that our song was awkwardly weird. Ukraine's and Turkey's entries were abysmal, and I'm surprised how they finished so high up. The eye roll the British presenter did before announcing that the 12 points go to Turkey was priceless though.
I quite like the Serbia song, it was probably the best at the final. Sounded a bit like the Bosnia song from last year, which is a positive thing for me. :)

Maybe, but we never get any votes. It all comes from being an Island, that, God forbit! actually has a role in international affairs. Therefore of course everyone hates us! I can remember the votes after we invaded Iraq, I think most countries would have been happy to give us minus points!
Back from the Formula-1. No time for reading all the replies... To summarize. Eurovision is the most ashaming and shabby show in the World. Hope it dies.
Well, mostly it's just the quality of the songs you put out. This year's was one of the most horrible ones. And do you remember last year's? Now that was tripe if anything.
I'm glad Serbia won. It was one of the very few that actually passed for a song, not that I like power ballads at all. It was just piss in a kingdom of poop.
My favourite song was the Georgia one. They mentioned it was Bjork-ish, and I felt that it was, in a good way. Good to see they finished on the good side of the two columns :)
And the high point of the ESC this year was the performance by Apocalyptica. I love those silly chello-playing metalheads ;D
Don't you see that if you watch the songfestifal you get dissapointed every year? I know I do. Well ok I have to admit that the Netherlands send nothing but the dullest songs and expect to win but that's a different story.
I think that each country should have a list of 5 or 6 countries from which they are not allowed to receive more than 6 points from, so Russia's "capped list" would be Ukraine, Belarus, etc. (all those countries with lots of Russians living in, basically). Cyprus's list would include Greece, Turkey, etc. Serbia's list would include all the former-yugoslav countries. Sweden's list would include the fennoscandic countries, etc. UK's list would be Ireland, Malta and... does anyone else vote for us?
Apparently not.
We came last. Yay! I think we should just give up entering, like Italy.
Sorry for how this message sounds but... if you turn on your television only a few times a year, and one of them was for this, shame on you. If you watch television all the time, you probably have bigger problems than watching this particular show would entail.
well...
It was entertaining in a way. At least the British speaker is rather funny at places. I certainly was not looking for the next record to buy from Eurovision...
(tbh honest I didn't see it. I was having an online lesson with a student of mine... :-/)
teeheehee
I would like to appologize on behalf of my people. There was no excuse for Scooch.
Ok!
I understand, but for the shake of this thread:
Why on earth won't the UK pick a decent performer and bring to the Eurovision? I mean Greece has thrown in the best they got (the winner in 2005 (?) is a super star in Greece, and Sakis, as well, and last year anna vissi are all super stars, the best actually in greece (best=most paid, most popular, ok?). In the UK you get millions of bands, people who deal with music. I mean, imagine blur entering the competition, or radiohead, or whatever really... woudn't they win?
Bottom line, UK it self does not give a sh*t for the competition. It's plain ovious!
(the understand part: If I was radioahead, or blur, Iwould never accept for all the money inthe world, to enter eurovision. For greece eurovision is a way out, for the uk, is a tomb.)
This is true, but if the UK really wanted to win they would submit an act that has fans all over the world. Like you said bands such as Blur probably wouldn't be seen dead there at the risk of being named "Sell outs". But someone like Robbie Williams (although not a guy i listen too) entered he would probably win from his fans votes alone. that is providing people dont vote politically.
for other non europeans like me:

#1 Belarus' lead singer looks like a cheesy Owen Wilson character
#2 The guy from Albania has a creepy mustache. Leave the crane alone.
#3 Whats up with Denmark sending a bunch of Dragqueens? Is there a reputation there I should know about?
Winning perfomance by Marija Serifovic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oQ_YNK5-5Q
I'd say she's a pretty badass songwriter.
English translation:
I'm wide awake
An empty bed drives my dreams away
Life melts like ice
Disappears in the twinkling of an eye
I'm losing my mind,
Pushing reality out of sight
Our lips are touching softly
You're the one I believe blindly
I walk around like crazy
Falling in love frightens me
Days are like wounds
Countless and hard to get through
Prayer...
It burns my sore lips like a fire
Prayer...
Thy name is something I admire
Heaven knows just as well as I do
So many times I have cried over you
Heaven knows just as well as I do
I pray and live only for you
I can't lie to God
as I kneel down and pray
You're the love of my life
That's the only thing I can say
Eurovision is not entertaining? Oh come on, you like MST3k, don't you? This is pretty much the musical equivalent. Except that the comments are supposedly serious.
