Oliver

Well, it should probably end a month after it started. Would seem fair. It would be really cool if it would be a "real" contest in the Competitoins and Activites forum. It's always cool to have something beside all those drawing contests. I bet a lot of people would take part in this too, at first atleast.
You got it!

Yeah, and Karaoke too, while we're at it. ;)

Kiddin', accourse, I just felt like taking advantage of your enthusiasm, meanie mean that I am.

EDIT - Ok, so Oliver posted before me. But in my heart, this will always be reply #20.
EDIT2 - Yeah, this is in response to Geof.
Reach for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.

this isn't very good, because on the one hand, I tried to not put too much wank in it, and on the other hand, this is exactly the kind of music you should overwank. So it's halfassed. Two channels, by the way. Oh and I really don't like the blues so this is hungarian minor with lots of accidentals and too sterile to count for anything with soul.

EDIT: wait, I thought that it would be a nice idea to play hungarian minor. This is just pentatonic with one major shift somewhere. Crap.

Well, I like it. :)

By the way, are you the same Helm who frequented Pixelation back when it was still up? The same Helm who once commented on my crappy pixel art Fripp?

Oh, the avatar? Well, yeah, that's Fripp also, but I was actually referring to a different pixel art Fripp, one that wasn't meant to be crappy but was anyway because I'm still pretty much a novice at it. The avatar was an edit of a joke someone made. Who was it? Um... That one guy who always drew samurai, I think... Tsugumo? Or Fable? Ack! Can't recall...

I would vote for not making this an actual CONTEST per se, I see no need for there to be a specified winner, especially as the winner may not be able to find/make an appropriate backing track themself. I like it the way it is, just a sort of....."jam" between musicians. I think it should stay this way.

In addition to this, something similar could be done with the entire track recorded by AGSers. If, for example, chicky were to record a drumming track & upload it, someone records bass over that, etc etc. It might be nice to see if something good could come out of a project like that.

Just my two pennies.

Helm

Yes the same. This is where I come from. The amateur adventure game designer cult. The pixel art fixation came after, really. Nice to see you around. Oh, and Pixelation will be back at some point, although don't hold your breath. Thanks for liking my halfassed try, you're obviously more skilled as a player.

Cool!!

BTW, forgive my ignorance but what are you playing to? I mean what's the "loop" (?) in the background, on which your half-overwanking :)

So guitarists, here's your backing track:

http://herculeaneffort.adventuredevelopers.com/backing%20track.mp3

FYI, the backing track is in A minor and the BPM is 120 just incase you want to sync it or something.

Have fun!

Ask him. And also half-overwanking would properly simplify to exactly the right amount of wanking, no? (answer: sadly not :()

I just saw something today that reminded me of this and it sounded AWESOME. It comes from Justin Frankel who worked on Winamp and created the Gnutella network. The idea is very cool. To be able to play music with others over the interent in almost real time.

Read the description over at http://www.ninjam.com/

It hasn't been released yet, but the first version is supposed to be released on the 23rd of June.

Very interesting! You can be sure I'll be haunting that program with my bass guitar when it's released. :) I've been looking a long time for software that can let musicians jam over the net...

The drums are loops (from Beta Monkey Music or something I forget), and the rhythm guitar and the bass guitar are played by me.

Cool, cool. If Chicky could record some drums, I'd be happy to put down some bass grooves...

Chicky

Well, this saturday my band are recording their EP, so i'll get a little time to record a single drum beat also. What style are we aiming for? I can play parts of Joeys disasterpieces solo if you want some heavy  ::) But seriously, what beat would you like? Some kind of indie rock steady beat or..?

How about something funky? Or a steady rock beat, whatever. :)

Really it's whatever you want to play.

Crap... too bad I don't have my POD unit yet, or the internet at home.  Because, let me tell you, sitting with a mic in front of your amp is NOT the way to go.
