http://aafiles.bicycle-for-slugs.org/full/The%20Adventures%20of%20Fatman.rar Here is Fatman from the AGS Archive.
You really should have asked this question on The Underdogs forums though, why should we help you with problems on their site? Given your current record, I think it'd be best if you don't start a thread on these forums for a few months at least, unless it is to ask for help with developing a game.

WinRAR is free, if I'm not mistaken.
Sorry to be of absolutely no help.
Rar is a rather common compression format, similar to but more efficient than zip, type "rar" into google to get a list of programs that will let you extract rars and other common archive formats you'll see on a regular basis if you download games.
7zip, for example, is a free program that can handle both formats.
Better get a unrar program yeah. I hardly ever see .zip-files anymore, perhaps some random ones, once in 3 months but still. WinRAR is free in a way. It just tells you to register, but you can skip that by closing the notifier, or just crack it, which wouldn't make a difference, but is not supported, (as if).
-
Having winRAR will not help you access the Underdogs download. It will allow you to open the .RAR file that scotch (quite helpfully) linked to.
But (as Hotspot said) you CAN play Fatman now, right? Which is a start.
Don't know how much help this is, but Underdogs works perfectly for me (tried Fatman and a few other random small games). Which at least narrows it down to probably something (hopefully solvable) on your side, and not a cock up with the Underdogs site.
Have you tried everything they suggest in their Download FAQ (http://www.the-underdogs.info/faq.php#c) (download managers, firewall, etc)?
While I'm seeing a lot more rar-files lately, they're still a minority (like 1 in 7 or 8) in my experience. Still, having a rar-compatable program is definitely a good idea.

*ahem*
1. You really need to be more specific about your problem. If you succesfully downloaded Fatman, then you should be able to download all games... dunno what's wrong.
2. Did you, by any chance, as suggested by scotch, go to the underdogs forum and check there. Underdogs <> AGS, you are aware of that.
I never had absolutely any problem with downloading any game from the underdogs. Do check the FAQ in their site, in case indeed you have something on (firewall for example), like Ashen suggested, and see what you need.
using 7-zip , or other simlar programs will save your life, as they can compress and uncompress dozens of different file formats, including RAR of course... It is very handy.
I hope it helps...
I think he downloaded Fatman from the link scotch posted - not Underdogs, so no real help there. Of course, TVD, you might find some of the OTHER games you're after there (http://aafiles.bicycle-for-slugs.org), if they're AGS games from a while back. Otherwise - as has been said - the Underdogs FAQ and forums might be more help than us.

ITS A ZIP FILE
Christ :)
TVD, if you should be using a download manager, turn it off. Worked just fine for me.
I think you'll get temporarily banned or blocked from downloading from HOTU if you are using a download manager.

...or trying to download more than one (1) file at a time will have the same effect.
http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?gameid=4485. Using this link, I had no problem downloading Fatman.
Make sure you type in the download code properly, EXACTLY as it appears in the graphic (ie. 8A1Lz not 8a1lz or 8A1LZ).
You should have no problems.

Just get winRAR. simply. It can unzip everything. No need fear zips or rars or cbz or cbr or what ever.

TVD:
What you fail to understand after this thread has reached the 2nd page is that, WINRAR is a very useful program, without any viruses 99% of times (cause I don't own it, neither do I know what's going on in the web, but I've never heard of anyone "getting" a virus from winrar, or mIRC btw ;D)!
The thing is that evreybody is telling you the same things, which you don't seem to understand:
i. mIRC cannot attack your computer
ii. winrar is as safe as anything totally legal and usable and legal and safe and whatever program in the internet. If you can trust ANY file from AGS (like for example Emily Enough wihch is a great game), why can't you trust winrar?
iii. Making new threads every other day is not pleasent (for me at least, but I can quote many people on this, including mods...)
Furthermore Emily enough, and Fatman, and every game comes with an exe file! Have you even considered not running the game, because of that? Why do you think that these people will not screw your computer, but winrar will? Why do you think that viruses will bypass Fatman, only to stick to winrar?
Please, listen to what everybody is saying: Download winrar and make your life easier! Heck! Have your parents download it! It's FREE! It's clean! It's perfect! Then use the AGS database to download all the games you want!
Also, most members here have been helping you from your very 1st post/thread, so please you do not have ANY RIGHT to compain about construcitve and whatnot!
The above is a friendly advice, take it or leave it of course!
NOTE: I'm not acting like a mod, but like someone giving advice/constructive critisism on TVD. :D

I have the same problem with HotU.
This is what happened after I typed in the code to download any game.
Quote
Oops, there has been an error!
If you're reading this page, that means you are trying to get the game that IS up on this site, but somehow an error occurs.
You did not seem to come from the right URL. This means the referrer has not been set properly, or you didn't come from the Home of the Underdogs at all. Please see the FAQ for details on this.
Then I got bored and watched a movie instead.
I've not been able to download anything from Underdogs in recent memory. I have the same problem as TVD, but I don't use any download accelerators, and none of the other problems on that list seem to match up. I've given up on it now, and search for stuff elsewhere.

I can trust files from AGS, but I'm just saying I can't download RAR files.
So, the antivirus-program will not let you? Turn it off for a moment.
-
QuoteHmm, I'm not sure if my computer is able to take WinRAR, due to the recent virus attack from mIRC.
Do you know how stupid this sounds? mIRC doesn't give you viruses. You have an over-reacting firewall. Change that.
-
No. mIRC uses PORTS to TALK to OTHER PEOPLE. "A recent attack on your computer" being blocked means that Norton is detecting traffic to and from ports that mIRC is using to communicate with the servers, NOT blocking viruses.
An "attack" could mean anything from a remote port-scan to virus. Doesn't mean it is. Your firewall overreacts. Turn it down.
-
You should still be asking this on the HotU forums, not here.
-
Then why should we bother to help you then? You have to admit that my question is a difficult one...
Now maybe this will help you:
1. Download Spybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html), or Adaware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php). Install and run to check for spyware!
2. Get off the internet! Close the connection and close Norton Internet Security AT ALL!
3. After you're one with it, see that indeed you have installed winrar! Something tells me that you did something wrong! When you have installed winrar, even zip files will open with it so you know that you've done the correct job!
4. You should now be able to open rar files (as well as zip, which you already do).
5. When you decide to come back online, don't foget to open Norton again...
If not there is something you're not doing right.
Many seem to have the same problem as you with HOTU... :( But there are other ways to play AGS games, so this is why the above list exists.
if you dont trust rar files i feel sorry for you. more and more they are being used over zip since they compress better. and the winrar program is just an archiver and unarchiver of many archive formats. zip files used to need winzip to open then before windows integrated it into xp. your too young to know about those days i guess
-
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Download it and you can!
-
He means to say, that his computer takes rar files as corrupted files, and winrar doesn't handle the files, so there is some problem there.
reguardless of that. i thought someone said the file was actually a zip file. not a rar rile

I know I should, but I can't be bothered to make an account on there. ;) Anyway, I was just asking if anyone had experienced this problem and how I could solve it.
My advice is, if you can start a thread that spans 3 pages here, where at least 1/3 (if not at least half) of the posts were by your own self, it's wiser for you to open an account and ask there, that way you would probably get your solution faster. :P
My advice is to listen to what people are saying, instead of repeating your problem.
RE. The mIRC thing, I can udnerstand why you are being led to think it is a virus, Norton monitors things called "ports" that your computer uses to connect to the internet, make FTP transfers among other things, included the actions necessary for mIRC to function. Apparently, mIRC uses a port that norton does not think it should be using, it is not putting your computer in danger, norton is merely assuming it is because of the extraneous port activity.
I doubt that will penetrate into you concioussness, but I hope it might lead to you posting a bit less about this mIRC thing. Maybe it will lead to you posting less overall. Unlikely.
the fact that you are using Norton in the firstplace is where all this sadness and trouble starts.
When I first got my brand new windows XP computer and it came with norton i was fucked with virii and bullshit warnings from Norton from day one. It doesnt protect for shit compared to say...AVG-Antivirus/AVG-Antispy. Get those. They are FREEEEEEEEEEEE forever and ever, updates DAILY. More than Norton even.
get them at their completely safe homepage where no virii reside. (http://www.grisoft.com/)
what strikes me is, that, yes, Norton in my experience is plain crap, but when you write like you did above MarVelo, do you think anyone will listen to you seriously, especially when you write, and I quote
Quotei was fucked with virii and bullshit warnings...

They are FREEEEEEEEEEEE...
Sorry, but if I didn't know better, I wouldn't change after reading this. And this is a common issue, if you want someon to change, (and I recommend you do, Adam, whatever your nick is now), make them have a reason to believe you.

Explain what is not working in more than 4 words please.
Did you install winRAR?
-
Did you install winRar?

Your computer is b0rked.
Something, most likely Norton, seems to be corrupting rar files before the download finishes. Although how or why this would happen is beyond me.
Maybe the entry in your registry for rar files could be corrupted, causing comflicts when you try to open one...Christ! It could be anything.
You seem to be set against downloading programs that could (possibly) fix the program, or possibly your parents have your access to your PC restricted to a non-administrative account.
I offer your this solution:
1. Download CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/)
2. Install and run it.
3. Click on the button that says "Run Cleaner" (it's down in the lower right hand corner).
4. This will clean all temporary directories and files in windows and various other programs.
5. In the menu on the left hand side of the window, click on the button that says "Issues", then on the button "Scan for issues" that appears at the bottom of the screen. This will check your registry for corrupt entries. If it finds any, click on the button labelled "Fix selected issues..." Thiswill repair these entries.
Whether or not this will have any affect on your problem is anybody's guess. It seems like you PC is bloated with various conflicting processes, and any further advice I could give you could result in serious repercussions with the stability of your system.
Or download the zip file of the game at
http://www.screen7.co.uk/games/download.htm
Am I going to have to say this again in 3 pages time? ;)
I think he's saying that he can't run .EXE.
In other words, his computer is broke and his thumbsucking skills aren't advanced enough to fix it.
Or we could just let this rest until he responds.
Really, bashing the 12-yo is getting old.
Haha.. it was being left to rest until you replied... LGM's reply was days ago...
The 12 year old is the only thing getting boring here, I wish people would stop getting all huffy about the fact people don't like assholes... yes if an asshole is being allowed to roam free, people are going to get annoyed about it... the only people that could POSSIBLY want someone like TVD on these forums are paedophiles... yum yum come here little child sit on my lap give santa a kiss...
If you can't run .exes and unzip stuff you either have a severily corrupted due to viruses computer, or you have a motherboard fault or something of the kind.
Quote from: Nefarious on Sat 24/02/2007 19:18:58
Yes I did download it, but when I do download the document it appears as a broken document, and it tells me to load the document with a different program or find it manually.
At that point, have you tried actually manually finding and selecting winRAR to open the file?
Since it seems I read the date wrong, and the topic starter's said he won't be posting on the forum in a while, why not lock this? It's turning into a merry go round of the same advice, and the one we're supposed to help isn't here at the moment, so yeah.
Just a suggestion.
