Ooh, what the heck was the name of that guy who was making Brad Bradson... oh, god, he had the weird Avatar with the crazy eyes.... I swear I'm gonna remember here in a minute.   EDIT: Five minutes later, and a use of teh search: Os àšltimo Quão Queijo ^_^

I love how I'm typing stream of conciousness here.... oh, god, what was his name.... argh..... Well, didn't he get booted from #AGS and then make an annoying "Whotoshop Wednesday?"

EDIT:  I don't think he got banned, I just don't think he comes around these "facist" boards.

No, he didn't get banned. But I think he's on of those people who can hold a gudge for a very long time if he feels he's been improperly treated.

Nacho

Very long time? Let's hope forever... has someone visit his web lately?

Don't be so harsh, he may come back as a mature person. Or maybe he's already back under a new username? EDIT: I ment poop.

To get back on topic, one of the friendlier web communities I know is www.ghostplace.com, I remember receving a few welcome PM's after joining in, and the members are pretty patient around newbies.

TerranRich

I doubt poop734 will ever mature.

And does anybody remember kikme?

Sorry for drudging up old user names and the deep, dark past of teh AGS Boards. :o

Well, just to give you an example of what happened at this forum, here's what I posted and the replies I got.  I have refrained from adding the forum name and engine name, because I don't feel like stooping to their level.

[Darcness] Wow! Looks impressive. I've noticed that there is no technical area on the pages or anything similar to it which shows the features of the new release. I'd just like to know where I can take a look at the full feature list of [engine name], as I am quite impressed with it.

[Gromm] Whahahahahahahahaha

[Erik_the_Unready] Take a look at the number of posts this guy has.

[Gromm] Darcness? What, are you trying to scare people with your nick. Pathetic. Look, he's an anime fan. Oh! And a goth! LOL Loser.

[Seamus] Darcness, it's a bit hidden (don't know why) but the feature list is available at [LINK]. And Gromm, I'm sorry to say this but I don't think that's the correct attitude a moderator should have towards a new forum member.

[Erik_the_Unready] what are you afraid the goth might get depresed and slit his own wrists?

[Gromm] Seamus. I'm only go8ing to warn you once. Shut up! If you reach 60 posts you'll have a chance to bitch aboot my moderating, but before that, STFU. NooB.

Well, there's the example...

STFU you Goth n00b!

On a serious, people have a tendancy to suck.  Sometimes they won't even send you money when you ask for it.

Darc, forums like that just aren't worth the trouble of being in, you know?

If the engine really impresses you but the community behaves like such a horse's ass, you could try contacting the admin or the maker of the engine directly. If they don't like it, they'll do something about it; if they're more of the same, you should just move on.

Sometimes I feel that people who behave like that in forums is just people who would like to behave in that way in real life, but they're to weak and small... Darcness will probably kick their asses if he sees them "in live".

Or slit his wrists in front of him, thus causing permanent mental anguish.  Damn goths. ;)

*STUFF*

That's what we like to call a post whore forum. People who don't think your opinion is worth crap if you haven't posted it a million times. Don't mind the bastards, they're just proud because they've spent so much time on the forum, and it's THEIR kingdom now.

Next time, call yourself "PotatoSlopper" and have a banana as avatar. That'll make ya cool.

Nacho

They think it's their kingdom... or their home...

These forums are ok, but I've seen friendlier.

Darcness

I actually think AGS and AD forums are THE friendliest forums I have ever been a member of, and I've joined many others before this.

Cluey, your example shows exactly why I started this thread. Some forums just treat new members like crap.
As I have stated, why do public forums like that even exist if they do everything in their power to chase new members away? One day they'll take a look at their member count and wonder why it's dropped so drastically, and their forum is dying.

Just because a forum member has been registered on the forum longer than someone that joined only a week ago, it doesn't make that person automatically more intellegent or a better person than the newbie.

I recently posted an ad on a forum for the second issue of The Arcana, in which I actually give some free advertising for that particular site.

A few hours after the post, I started getting derogatory remarks about my company name and I was outright told that my HTML coding is utter rubbish (instead of giving me ways to improve on it).

Once again, from a bunch of people between the ages of 13 - 17.

I sometimes wonder why I even bother signing up with new forums anyway, since this seems to be the general attitude with most forums these days.

I tried to acess Cluey's link twice. The second time around I got the following:

QuoteThe collective has grown tired of your insolence and your reluctance to conform to the hive mind. You have outlived your usefulness and have been terminated.

How revealing.
