For my next game there's a sound effect I REALLY want for it, but I can't think of what it would be called and can't find it anywhere on sites such as sound dogs, etc.
What I'm thinking of is a scary surreal sound that's almost like an orchestral bent high note...
I REALLY REALLY wish I had a better example (sigh) but skip to 2:21 (at about 4:44 is a better version actually) in this video to hear what I'm talking about. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbE3BCMzTlQ
Could anyone help me at least kind of define what it is?
its probably something like a guitar/violin string with lots of reverb being scratched by something metallic.. scary sounds like that are easy to make.
Really?
Huh. Well I'm glad you could help give me an idea of what it is. :D
I actually hardly know anything about sound effects...
EDIT: Sure enough, throwing 'scary strings' into the engine found it. Thanks Calin
Sounds like a saw wave to me. :)
It sounds like a Saw shaped synth swelling and then dying off. I could be listening to the wrong sounds. (at 2:21 are you talking about the lightening or the sound in the background?)
I took two synths and put them together. This took literally 30 second so its probably not spot on but if you like it, use it:

If not, tell us more about what type of sound you're looking for.

Not the sound the saws are making, that quick sound around 2:21 that only lasts a fraction of a second. It sounds like some sort of high pitched instrument.
By "Saw" we're meaning a "saw wave"
It is a sound that produced a wave pattern like this /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\ and because the wave pattern looks like that it is called a "saw waveform."
I believe the sound you're referring to is the one that they are using for lightening. That's not a specific sound but I would describe it as a ripping sound and a "50s style laser gun" simultaneously being played. I'll see if I can do a bit more research for you.

That's very nice of you. Thanks for the information. :)
