Title: This pisses me off
Post by: Radiant on Tue 11/09/2007 20:18:35
Okay. I just heard that the local church organization is organizing a kind of bike-a-thon (i.e. teens or tweens promise to make a day-long bike trip, and their friends, neighbors and parents will pay them a couple dollars per ten miles travelled) to raise approx $10,000 for charitable causes.

The charity? Buying plane tickets for these teens so that they can visit a prayer session in Australia. Because, you know, prayer is so much different on the other side of the world than it is here.

It really pisses me off that they dare call this charity. Just imagine the good an actual charity could do with this sheer amount of money... but instead of loving their neigbors, they're only loving themselves. It's really, really sad.

They shouldn't call it a charity they should call it a fund raiser, thought o these people its a worthy cause.  Don't cry over spilled perfume.

Still, I'd rather donate to that than scientology...

The charity? Buying plane tickets for these teens so that they can visit a prayer session in Australia.

And there they will pray for people who have no money for food, medicine and clothes.

Well though I think it is rather silly, I mean yes, it could have been been used better imo, there is much better uses for this money, its not like your been forced to donate. If you want to help raise money to help the widow and orphens, start your own chairity, and don't just bitch, act.

Somebody gimme $10,000! There's a prayer session in Maui, and I hear God wants me to have a nice tan! I want to kneel and pray, so you better bend and pay.

Never!

The cat told me I was right to keep my eyes open. "Never let your guard down, Fish. Now open this gate so I can really piss off those dogs."

...falls over.

So that's 500 for the plane ticket, and 9,500 for someone to trick you into staying for the duration?

Don't they have a collection box?
And don't they have their own church to pray in.
I hope the auto-pilot uses its common sense.

Lots of churches in your area, mine, and others use more money than that to send missionaries to South and Central America to convert Catholics to *insert protestant religion here* and preach about it as if they're fighting heathenism and dealing with head hunters.

Furthermore, more than half of the area preachers here drive new model cars worth well over what their average parishioner makes in a year while living in houses filled with luxury goods all on the church's dime.

That's really only the beginning of the problems of Midwestern US organized religion.

And yet when theres a fire and the church needs a new roof it takes seven years or more  to fill up the giant thermometer.

As my grandpa often says, religion is the biggest hoax of the history. Compared to the amount of people it effects and the time it has been ruling.

Though got to admit it, what's the use of being a priest or believing in God if you get nothing out of it. The profession of a priest is one of the most paid jobs in my country at least. Well, now they're worried, because atm at appr. 80+% of the people belong to the church, while the number is dropping with 35000 a year making it around 64% till the year 2025. and as the bishop just said in the news, that will mean a great loss in taxes they gather from all those good willed fools.

Oh well, not my problem. I think you're just as stupid if you give something to their charity when the object is something like a tour around the world in a balloon. And here's me thinking, should they do something good in developing countries or such without the religious aspects, I'd be more than happy to donate some.

But yeah, if you want to get rich, start a religion. no wait, let's all start one together. And remember, what's different between merchantilism and religions? Well, we both sell images, but in this deal you get nothing in return. Now how can you refuse that :D

I recently got sponsered to get a five-day course for young people who want to get into the TV industry.
They called themselves a charity.
It does make you feel pretty guilty, like you're somehow stealing money from straving african kids as you sit there, warm and safe in your 'High School Musical 2' bus on your way to see a Q&A session with Simon Amstell.
Bad me. Bad, bad me. The AFRICAN KIDS should be the ones going to see a Q&A with Simon Amstell!!
