Haha, ever lose access to a forum for just a day- but that was just long enough for you to forget points you were trying to make?  Yeah, sheesh- I'll try to keep up now but I sure lost my rhythm there.  Good luck to you debaters in that respect as well.

In other news, my friend and I have recently been writing heavily for a sketch comedy show that we hope to begin shooting this summer.  I have 15 sketch concepts lined up that I am now finally writing dialogue for.

If anyone would like to contribute, as many have shown interest in this area recently, logos would immensely be appreciated.  The kind that plop down after the first bit on the show with the kickass theme song roaring behind it.  The title of the show (as well as this thread) should already be sending your minds ablazing!

I only just got a chance to come to the forum a while ago and it didn't let me, obviously it's back now, but I missed a day anyway cause my computer crashed.

Some files must have been corrupted on my HD in the OS files, couldn't get passed the windows logo screen, did a format lost some stuff but importantly I had backed up my latest project including 70 odd crm files 500 sprites etc a week ago so I didn't lose much of that.

I also copied some sprites and crm files I had altered by using a trusty boot disk and using good old DOS.

My computer crashing must have crashed the forum

So Evenwolf, Is the sketch show going to be aired anywhere or is it just a personal project.

Sounds like fun, it must be hard writing sketch shows cause the ones I see on TV, I only get a laugh out of a couple of clever sketches and the rest are usually just not funny or toilet humor, good luck with the show

I'll probably knock up a logo or two (I'm in that kinda mood).  Any specifics? and what res?

Tim:  Well, sketches are hard to write for that very reason- one is tempted to write cliche, toilet humor crap- the kind of stuff Mad TV gets away with week by week.  But as I've said, I devoted time merely to writing a bulk of the sketches - hopefully giving me a head start that will keep the pressure of filming from effecting my future writing.

What were going for is Monty Python, Mr. Show, Kids In the Hall, The State- not referencial/pop culture garble that won't make any sense 4 years from now (or even now for that matter).  I've been keeping track and honestly there have been only like 6 references to anything in the entire 15 sketches that require outside knowledge. Haha, I am very picky on that matter.  To answer your question- this is an individual project we plan on airing on two local channels- the University's FCC licensed thingy, as well as the community access channel here in Austin.  We also plan on sending it out as a demo to anyone we feel like.  I'll try to get as much on the web as possible for you guys of course.

Iqu:  Rock on.  Res- the higher the better I guess. The only limitation is whatever my friend Jack does with it in Final Cut Pro, which I'm not familiar with.  I'm shy to give you any creative input on this one, as I'd like to see what varying minds come up with.. but I can let you in on the funky title, as we both agree.

So you're in public and you overhear a conversation someone is having but only catch a snippet, and what you hear throws you way off guard.  Once the people are gone you crack up laughing but then brainstorm about what the hell they could possibly have been talking about.  Louis Black does a comedy routine on this rare phenomenon- but he never gave it a name.  We did.  Based on a conversation once overheard by Jack's friend (well I guess he really named it) :

"Well, she went to the funeral, but I doubt she'll ever eat tomatoes again."

Others include:

"That poor woman's uterus must have been the size of a watermelon."

And:

"I can't believe you're my sister!" (girl talking on cell phone)

Those are Tomato Funerals my friend, and those conversations are how we plan to frame each show.

Iqu:  Yeah, the higher resolution the better

NTSC video is 720x480 so anything constraining to those proportions (like 900x600 ect...) is cool

Also the TV always ends up cutting off around 1% or 2% of the edge, so if you do make anything, which we appreciate very much, of course take the background edge to edge, and just try not to get anything that you feel important, like any words, close to the edge for fear of them getting cut off

remixor

Well, here's my attempt.  I've no idea if this is what you're looking for.  Perhaps if you have suggestions I can attempt to implement them :)

It's done in 720x480 as mentioned:

Comedy Inc and Skithouse are enought to ruin sketch comedy for anyone.

True, there's a new one on channel 7, that is identicle to both of them, it's just a phase that will wear thin pretty soon, They all seem to be very similar to that Pommy one "the sketch show" which was just as bad.

Monty python was in a different class, but a lot of their stuff was pretty shit too, it's just the classics that stand out, plus it was in an era when that stuff hadn't been done on TV before, now it has, coming up with new shit in comedy is almost impossibe.

Sorry for any confusion over possibly deceased AGSers, hehe.  I'm sure 2ma2 is alive and well, and will be very tickled by our  faux grievance.

Remix: Looks nice! I like the stenciling on the grave, but something about the grave seems awry to me- I think its how high the stencling is placed and the combo of the photo/ cartoony stencil.   Dude, I love that stenciled tomato- if you could possibly make a tombstone that fits the stencils cartoonyness- rather than the realistic photo-  I would be overly grateful. You wouldn't even have to worry about putting text in the backgorund, that would be sweet enough.

Oh dear, it would seem remixor and I are thinking on the same wavelength (albeit I'm experiencing some seriously funky lag)...

Icu:  Excellent!  By any chance, can you give me the tombstone alone without the text?  I'm just thinking Jack might play around with fonts and stuff in Final Cut.  He likes to have words fly into the screen and whatnot.  Again, thank you so much.

evenwolf

Those were both two great logos- anyone else take a try at it?

If you're thinking about it, again I should mention- don't worry about the text, we'll do that in editing.  Something clear and simple would rock.  And we can use as many as you throw us, alternating between episodes.

Thanks everyone who helped out! Consider simplifying those logos to the tombstones themselves, Iqu and Remixor- please.  I'll make sure you guys get a place in the credits of the show.  ;)

I don't know if this is what you're looking for--it's kind of a cop out on my part.  But here's another try.  If this isn't what you want either, just let me know and I'll try to whip somethign else up.

As you can see, I've left the words out so your friend can go nuts.

Yeah, no offense but I'm not big on the filteryness of it.  You lose some of the quality on the sweet stencil too.  But thanks overall, I do appreciate the effort. :)
