Well ...
I'm off to get a tooth pulled.
While you're reading this I'm most likely being fed laughing gas to knock me out so a dentist can take a large pair of pliers and yank my wisdom tooth out.
I've been suffering with the tooth ache for the last 5 days.Ã, I've been over doseing on Advil and Motrin (anti-flametory medication for those unfamiliar!)
Anybody else have this done recently?Ã, Am I going to be suffering again after it's done?
Wish me luck ...
none of my wisdom ever gave me trouble, but you should be thankful that it's just your tooth that hurts, sometimes a bad tooth can cause earache, and in my opinion that's the worst ache there is.
good luck...
Well...
A couple of years back I got an infection because of a leaky root canal in one of my front teeth (Old accident). It hurt like hell, and I'm sure my liver is still mad at me for all the painkillers I ate while waiting to get an appointment. I hardly slept for 4 days. When I finally got my appointment, the dentist had to cut open my gums to get the infection out. Infected tissue apparently doesn't respond well to anesthetics, so when he drilled his way in to the infected tissue he hit nerves who were not yet sedated. That's the worst pain I've ever felt! It was like a ice-cold needle through my brain! Well... The next day I was totally fine! Only a bit sore where he had cut me, but I didn't need any painkillers! It was one of the best days of my life! I was totally walking on clouds. (I don't think it had anything to do with the sedation...)
So, in conclusion: It really, really, REALLY pays off to have it fixed, even if it hurts!
When I saw "Tooth ache" I knew who stated the thread, Jeremy... :)
Good luck!
My drummer had something like this a few months ago. Had it pulled and everything, but still has pain now. I wish I could remember the reason why. Rest assured, it's a possibility you might face.
My dentist told me (from xrays) that I have no wisdom teeth when I was a kid, I still don't have wisdom teeth at 28, and I've never been able to feel any signs of them.
I have a feeling my mum had the same thing told to her and she eventually got them around 30 although I could be imagining things.
maybe I'll never be wise, or maybe I'm so wise I don't need them?
Hope the pain goes away after the removal, and have fun with the gas, I've never had the gas before, I guess it depends on the dentist you have.
It may be related with not un-sensitivizating (sp?) the nerve after the extraction.
Yuck, toothache :( :o :'( It's awful.
I agree with BOYD that earache is HORRIBLE[/u]
As for the wisdom teeth, not trouble for me... yet.
Heh...
I had three of my wisdom teeth pulled a while back. They had been breaking off in hunks for the past four years so they were pretty screwed up by the time I got to see an oral surgeon, and they had been making me sick because of all the infections that would drain down my throat...And I have to admit I was pretty freaked out when I went to go get em yanked...
But, it all went off without a hitch. They laid out all there alien probe looking tools in front of me, hooked me up to the I.V. and started talking to me about hunting of all things. I remember thinking the Dental Assistant gal had really pretty green eyes and then I woke up happy as shit. They walked me out while I was smiling and happy and life was good....
After about a day I could eat normal food again and I never really needed the pain meds...
Only time I felt really bad was when the anisteitics wore off, I swear I've never puked like that in my life...
I haven't had my wisdom teeth pulled out yet. I should have had it done years ago when I had the chance.
Not that my wisdom teeth hurt or anything, but I do have this one tooth in the back, whenever I eat anything sweet, it's like someone's electrocuting me.
[trying to scare you]I never liked going to the dentist, because of all that poking around with hooked probes... and all the novicane needles. I wonder if they use a pliers to pull teeth like the ones I use to turn bolts... does laughing gas really work all that well?[/trying to scare you]
:P
Anyway, good luck!
Well ...
That was an adventure.
Shot(s) for me, not the gas.Ã, I don't like the gas.
My dentist was unable to finish the task and had to send me over to an oral surgeon.Ã, Which wasn't a big deal, but the damn novacaine wore off before I got in to see the surgeon and it was a nightmare!Ã, Felt like somebody was stabbing into my gums with a really really cold ice pick!Ã, Ouch!
The oral surgeon took about 15 minutes and was done!Ã, But man I never so looked forward to getting a shot in my life!!Ã, Once he stuck that needle in the pain just dissolved.Ã, I almost passed out it felt so relieving!
It was hurting sooo bad the last four days that I couldn't sleep (like Yoke said!) so hopefully, the 'after' pain won't be as bad and thus more tolerable. But hey, now I've got percoset!!
Hey Squinky ... the dental assistant today was sooooo cute that I'm almost (almost) hoping I need to go back.Ã, She also had green eyes.
** dm hopes his girlfriend doesn't read that last bit ... **
I had a root canal at 12.
7 hours in a dentist's seat = 4 for the root canal, 3 for restoration. I have a fake tooth. I spent a lot of time in a dentist's seat, and I don't care about the pain anymore. I just hang there limp, like a dead person. Sadly, all the times I went to the dentist, there has never been a cute male dental assistant in sight. Ain't that a bitch?
I don't know about cute, but some of the male dental assistants I've had were a little too friendly...
*sigh*
...I'll never be the same again... :(
I've got two front teeth pulled out from my upper jaw... not that they were hurting, they were just in the way... And still all my teeth won't fit as they should. I had those teeht position corrction iron things for a some time, but they took them off because they just fell out twice... I seem to have strong teeth. No sign of winsdom ones either...
I remember the shot I got when they pulled my teeth out... I was talking funny for a couple of hours because I couldn't move my upper lip... :P
I look like I have a whole orange in my mouth every time I get a shot. I end up biting the inside of my cheek to blood.
Femme: I have been A LOT to the dentist in my life too. I also have a fake tooth. Back when my visits to the dentist were at their most frequent, I almost fell asleep in the chair. But now my fear of dentists are almost back to normal again. :)
Darth: How's it going today? Getting better?
I don't think I could ever fear a dentist. I've been a frequent visitor to the seat since I was 3 and a half and then i was too young to be afraid. My father was always more nervous than me :)
Darth: I hope it gets better soon. I've never had a wisdom tooth pulled, frankly because I don't have any. I never suffered much after the procedures, all the pain was in or before the chair.
I've never had tooth-ache, nor a single hole for that matter. My teeth are perfectly intact.
I remember when I had ear-inflammation as a kid, and that ache was, just as Boyd stated, something extra-ordinary. Especially for a kid.
Ironically I've never had a hole either. Only reason for my dental visits was a nasty tumble out of my wagon when I was almost a year old. I apparently knocked my front tooth halfway down my throat. That tooth wasn't so important, but the force of the impact f***ed up what was going to be my permanent front tooth. When it finally came out is was L-shaped! Actually, to make it come out they had to cut my gums open, put a screw in the tooth, attach the screw to my braces with two metal cords, and make me go to the dentist once a week to tighten the metal cords and pull the tooth out. When it was finally out, they filed it down so that only the root remained, put another screw in the root and mounted a porcelain tooth on it. In retrospect I think they used me to practice parts of their profession they normally wouldn't get to practice... :P
That's the story of my teeth. Not really that interesting, is it? ;)
I'm really sore today ... it's not so much painful as just discomfort.Ã, (probably the percoset ;))
Last night was miserable.Ã, I got really sick and was hot/cold back and forth.Ã, I was shivering so hard that I couldn't talk and my teeth were chatter and aggravating the sore spot.Ã, It wasn't fun at all.
I brush my teeth twice a day, and I floss 3 to 4 times a week.Ã, I just have genetically bad teeth I guess.Ã, I have so much metal (fillings) in my mouth I'm suprised I don't trip the metal detectors at the airport!Ã, Seems no matter how good my oral hygiene is I'm destined to have teeth problems.
Oh well.Ã, Could always be worse.
Thanks for the concern guys!

I so fear having to have my wisdom teeth out. I hate head pain
Heh, Jaws did trip on a metal detector once :P
Yesterday I heard a woman tell about her dentist visit when she was a child... She couldn't get an appointment with any other dentist that one where only big/strong/older (can't find the term right now...) go. So she was there sitting on an old-fashion dentist seat, whih did not move in any way, and the dentist had a look at her teeth, and when he was clear that one tooth needed to be removed, he grabbed a pair of pliers, pulled out the tooth and told her "You'll get off with a fiver because you didn't scream"... eep.
I have one of the baddest teeth of you all probably. I have had a great fear for the dentist all my life, and just a few months i visited the dentist in 4 years again. I have to get an operation of 4 hours, to take care of my teeth, so that don't have to be replaced.
I had sometimes so much earache, that I smashed my head to the wall. I lyed about the real reason... because of my fear. These times were really bad, and ofcourse im still pretty much limited in my food and such... but im happy I overcame my fear :)
That's about my biggest problem of my life... so now you know.... :-[
So I totally agree with Boyd... the earache, is unbearable... please DO brush your teeth good!
